The restaurant is normally filled with loyal customers who sing the praises of the excellent customer service and quality food.

On any given day the aroma coming from “My Father’s Barbecue” located at 637 East University Drive in Carson can be downright intoxicating.

Those high standards are set by the hardest working woman in Carson. Shalamar Hardley and her brother and CoOwner, Marvin Hardley are the proprietors of “My Father’s Barbecue.”

In addition to being a Entrepreneur, the thirty-something mogul is a “Longshore man.” “A lot of people are surprised to hear that I work as a longshore man but I absolutely love my job and my business.” Shalamar said in a recent interview. “I work very, very hard, have no social life but I am extremely happy with my life.”

An above average work ethic was instilled in Shalamar at an early age by watching her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hardley Sr. “My parents have lived in Carson for almost 50 years and all my life they have been diligent, focused and hard working. My dad was a long shoreman and real estate investor and my mom made sure we worked hard and

harder at whatever we task that was before us. Because of what they instilled in their family I am committed to making sure we contribute nothing but positivity to the City of Carson. You seldom see Shalamar sitting still because she is constantly building her empire however; she is never too busy to stop and talk to a customer.
