TRAVEL POLICY

If you are a CDL Electric road warrior, or even if you only travel occasionally, you know that hotel traffic has increased exponentially and hotel staff are struggling to keep up with the growth. This has effected our people on the road with availability and price. Sonja Jones has helped us put together a list of things to remember when booking a CLC hotel:

Look for ‘instant booking’

-This is the best way to guarantee a room, the hotel has rooms available

If you select ‘reservation team’

-This will send the reservation to CLC for them to reach out to the hotel for availability

If you see ‘expanded Network’

-These hotels are considerably more expensive and should only be used as a last resort

Our people on the road are very important to the success of CDL and Sonja’s goal is to support our road warriors by helping them stay as comfortable as possible while they are on the road! If there are only subpar hotels listed on CLC or if you need any assistance please reach out to Sonja Jones.

SIGNAL MAINTAINER

Tommy McCorkle lives in Snyder, Oklahoma. McCorkle has been a signal maintainer at CDL for a little over a year and has been in the railroad industry for almost 20 years.

McCorkle enjoys his day-to-day tasks and working alone. Outside of work, he likes hunting, boating, sports, trapping wild pigs and spending time with his 3 kids. He loves to be on the water,

especially at places like the Red River. Another favorite hobby of his is riding horses in the mountains. McCorkles favorite food is Mexican food, and his favorite TV show is Dr. Phil. He says that the best thing about working in the railroad industry is “that you can see the world from a different view from the rail.”

INTERN PROGRAM

We are excited to announce our fall intern program has begun. This is the first time we have ever done a formal internship program with Pitt State which is awesome. We will have 5 interns in total by the end of the month, for HR, Electrical, Engineering, Marketing Graphic Design and Production Graphic Design. These interns will be here around 20 hours a week and are all Pitt State Students. This is a paid program which gives them internship credit with PSU, hourly pay and a scholarship fund is being offered upon completion of the internship based on their hours worked. Jennah Usry is the first intern this fall semester in the marketing department. She says that she is very excited for the opportunity that CDL has provided for her to take that next step in her career. She has learned alot so far and can’t wait to see what else she can expirence this semester.

MOBASE

Exciting things are coming to CDL Group of Companies. We are a pilot company for the launch of the United States branch of MoBase. MoBase is a German started company that has modeled its platform after Amazon, but targeted specifically to the transit industry. Through this service, CDL will not only order products from our vendors but also sell products to people. J&A and General Machinery have been working to curate content for this project so that vendors can purchase items and have them shipped directly to the end customer. Some items include flag poles, safety gear, railroad signage, tools, and more. Eventually, we would like to see Serrmi launch products on this site as well, but are working through logistics on customizations. This project had its first preliminary launch for the procurement of products form our vendor Siemens.

ELECTRICAL EXTENSION CORD SAFETY

The U.S.

Commission (CPSC) estimates that each year, about 4,000

extension cords are treated in

by

About half the injuries involve fractures, lacerations,

or

from people tripping over extension cords.

CPSC also estimates that each year about 3,300 residential fires are caused by

cords, killing 50 people and injuring about 270 others. The most frequent causes of such fires are short circuits, overloading, damage and/or

extension cords. Here are some guidelines to follow when using an extension cord: ▶ Extension cords must be of sufficient current-carrying capacity to power the device(s) it will be used with (See table below). Longer extension cords require increased conductor size to compensate for voltage drop. Information on the wire gauge and amperage rating of an extension cord can normally be found printed on the cord. A good rule of thumb to follow is to use one wire gauge heavier for every 100 feet of additional cord length. Do not connect two or more cords together when additional length is needed. ▶ Cords should not be repaired with electrical tape or any other type of tape. This may conceal damage the cord has received and it does not provide the integrity of the original jacket. Load Ampere (Current) Rating Cord Length 0-2 2-5 5-7 7-10 10-12 12-15 25 ft 16 AWG 16 AWG 16 AWG 16 AWG 14 AWG 14 AWG 50 ft 16 AWG 16 AWG 16 AWG 14 AWG 14 AWG 12 AWG 100 ft 16 AWG 16 AWG 14 AWG 12 AWG 12 AWG 150 ft 16 AWG 14 AWG 12 AWG 12 AWG 200 ft 14 AWG 14 AWG 12 AWG 10 AWG

Never use extension cords as a replacement for rope. It is not designed for securing or hauling equipment and/or materials.

Do not use extension cords that are frayed, cut, or damaged such that inner conductors show, or that have outer sheaths which have pulled loose from their molded plugs exposing the inner conductors. In particular, do not use a cord that has a bare conductor exposed. In addition do not use extension cords missing the third post (ground post).

Extension cords should not run through doors, ceilings, windows, holes in walls, or through hinged door openings in enclosures to prevent “pinch” damage to the cord. If it is absolutely necessary to run an extension cord through a doorway or open window for short-term use, the cord must be protected from damage should the door or window slam shut; it must be removed immediately when no longer in use; and must not be a trip hazard.

Avoid running vehicles or equipment over uncovered extension cords. This can lead to splitting or internal damage to the extension cord.

When running an extension cord along the ground is best to use a protective covering or duct of some kind or tape to help prevent creating a trip hazard.

Extension cords should not be used in place of permanent facility wiring. Cords shall not be attached to building surfaces, structural members or permanently concealed in walls, ceilings, under floors or carpeting. In addition Title 8 Section 2799 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR) states that, except for construction purposes, temporary wiring can only be used for 90 days.

▶ Check the plug and the body of the extension cord while the cord is in use. Noticeable warming of these plastic parts is expected when cords are being used at their maximum rating, however, if the cord feels hot or if there is a softening of the plastic, this is a sign of a problem and the cord should be de-energized and discarded.

“ When I started working for CDL back in 1998, this company had 5 Signal Maintainers and a total of 10 employees. It is amazing how the company has grown and accomplished since then and I have been part of it. I cannot imagine to work anywhere else. Although, I have been doing it for so long, I still enjoy my job because it never gets boring, every day is different and I like the freedom and the flexible schedule”.
