RAILROAD EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

NICCUM SHANE

Shane Niccum, who has been with CDL for nearly two years, reflects on his career journey within the company. Initially hired as a Signal Maintainer, he spent just over a year in that role before being promoted to his current position as a Supervisor. Throughout his time at CDL, he has embraced the opportunity to grow and learn, actively developing his knowledge of new equipment and industry practices.

Currently, Shane’s focus is on expanding his skills and understanding of the equipment used in his field. He spends a significant amount of time reading, learning, and honing his abilities to better serve the team. Despite the technical nature of his work, he emphasizes the importance of flexibility and teamwork, which are among the reasons he enjoys working at CDL. For him, each day presents a fresh challenge, making his role both dynamic and rewarding.

On a typical day, Shane dedicates much of his time to supporting the maintainers under his supervision. His goal is to ensure that everyone stays on track and receives the assistance they need to successfully complete their tasks. The sense of collaboration and camaraderie within the company has made a lasting impression on him, fostering a positive and familyoriented work environment.

Before joining CDL, Shane had an entirely different career path. At 25, he started his own business specializing in the construction of freestanding staircases for new homes. For 25 years, he ran the company, working with high-profile clients such as NBA players, college coaches, and music artists. After selling his

business at the age of 47, he transitioned into the railroad industry when the opportunity to work for CDL Electric arose. Despite having no prior experience in the field, his background in electronics played a key role in his successful transition into the railroad construction industry. Today, he is grateful for the change, finding it a welcome relief from the stress of running his own business.
