In the Generator Division, a typical day consists of a mix of fieldwork, troubleshooting, maintenance, and customer service. Employees in this division are expected to balance hands-on technical tasks with communication and customer-focused duties, ensuring the systems are operating effectively and meeting the needs of clients. The role involves both working independently in the field and collaborating with others to address issues and provide solutions.
The main responsibilities for individuals in this role include the installation of generator systems, routine maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, testing, and calibration of equipment. Additionally, employees must maintain accurate records of their work, ensuring all systems are properly documented and serviced. This role requires a diverse skill set, including electrical and mechanical knowledge, engine expertise, and the ability to work with fuel systems. Troubleshooting is also a critical aspect of the job, requiring employees to quickly diagnose and address issues to minimize downtime for clients.
As technology continues to evolve, the role within the Generator Division is expected to focus more on learning complex systems and staying current with the latest advancements in technology. With remote and often harsh working conditions, employees will face challenges that require quick thinking, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills. Emergency repairs can arise at any time, demanding a high level of preparedness and flexibility. As the industry continues to grow, staying up to date with new systems and technologies will be essential for success in this role.
The team culture in the Generator Division is comprised of a small group of dedicated individuals who prioritize customer service and strong work ethic. This close-knit team focuses on delivering quality service and ensuring that customers are satisfied with the work done. Success within the division is measured by factors such as revenue, profitability, cost efficiency, customer service, and repeat business. Ultimately, the goal is to provide outstanding service that leads to longterm client relationships and continued business growth.
Adam Bowman has been with CDL for two years, serving as a signal maintainer. During this time, he’s gained extensive experience, covering areas in Nebraska and a small portion of Kansas City. Although he has held one primary position, his role has evolved as he’s taken on new challenges, particularly in learning and troubleshooting complex systems. The process has been one of growth, and Adam is proud of the progress he’s made in their career within CDL.
In recent months, Adam has been working on a KCT AEI reader installed by Comet. This particular project has required a significant amount of learning, as he’s worked through troubleshooting and familiarized himself with how the Comet system functions. Although challenging, this experience has been incredibly rewarding, as Adam has had the opportunity to expand his technical knowledge and gain hands-on experience with the system’s intricate details.
One of the aspects of working at CDL that Adam values the most is the level of communication he has with colleagues across all levels of the company. From supervisors and directors to customers, the open lines of communication are something he’s never experienced in any other job. The camaraderie and transparency foster a positive work environment, which has contributed to his overall job satisfaction and made his experience at CDL unique and fulfilling.
Before joining CDL, Adam had a diverse background. He served in the Army, deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan with the 1st Infantry and 101st Airborne Divisions. Following his service, Adam earned a Bachelor of Science in BioChemistry and transitioned into the Nebraska corrections system, where he worked as a Case Manager at the state’s largest maximum-security prison. These previous experiences, particularly in service and government jobs, have given Adam a deep appreciation for the supportive and friendly work environment at CDL, where he continues to learn and grow in the railroad industry.
