The second edition of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Conference On Clean Renewable Energy 2023 was held earlier this

this month in Panaji.

Speaking at the event, Goa CM Dr. Pramod Sawant said that the state government has set a goal to ensure 100 per cent renewable energy usage across all sectors by 2050. “This ambitious plan is expected to create around 15,000 additional jobs, with 500 jobs per year dedicated exclusively to the solar and wind energy generation sector”, Dr Sawant said. "The state government has also signed a memorandum of understanding to develop India's first convergence project to generate green energy for rural and agriculture consumption, and it will soon roll out the affordable clean power project,"

Also, the budget session of the Goa Legislative Assembly is scheduled to be held from the 27th to the 31st of March. The Goa government has invited members of the public from all across Goa provide their valuable suggestions for this year's budget to make it a 'people-centric' budget. People from the area of industries, students and the common man can send their ideas and suggestions to the government by the 15th of March.

Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has stated that this year's budget will be realistic and futuristic, and will focus on areas like education, healthcare, sanitation, tribal welfare and other areas. It will also focus on the concept of 'swayampurna Goa' with skill development and will see that schemes are reached to the deserving beneficiaries.

The products provided by Florence & Co. are 100% natural wax-based hand-poured scented candles, wax melts, and fragrance bars that are sustainable, cruelty-free, non-toxic, and long-lasting. The fragrances used are of premium quality, phthalatefree, GMO-free, and contain no artificial ingredients. What sets Florence & Co. apart is that they handblend their fragrances to curate some of the most unique fragrances that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. They also curate gift hampers for weddings, anniversaries, parties, and other events, which are 100% hand-made and curated with products sourced from Goan small businesses and entrepreneurs.

available in the local market, especially since paraffin wax candles sell for a quarter of the price. The challenge was to spread awareness about toxic candles and make potential customers understand why their prices go the way they do. Marketing and logistics were also huge challenges for them.

Anushka’s friend, Brijesh Kandolkar, has been the biggest supporter of her business since day one. He motivated her to start the business, helped her get a loan to get the company started, and has been helping her run it. Anushka has appointed him as the Manager at Florence & Co.

In the future, Florence & Co. plans to have a website and a small team to expand the business by the end of 2023. Anushka also plans to open a physical store and have a workshop. The goal is to have physical stores of Florence & Co. in Goa, other states, and internationally.

Anushka’s advice to people is to trust themselves, trust the process, and believe in the journey they’re taking because, as the famous quote by Gabrielle Bernstein goes, “It is the journey that matters, not the destination.” Florence & Co. has had its ups and downs, but Anushka’s dedication to creating unique fragrances through her scented candles and curating gifting hampers has been unwavering.

Organic Mind is a Margao-based enterprise which was started in August 2021. The enterprise was started to introduce sustainable living with green products that are an alternative to plastic and other harmful non-biodegradable materials. It offers an extensive range of organic essentials for home, skincare, lifestyle, kids, and more. The vision of the enterprise is to create a positive impact on our lives and reduce the damage to our natural resources.

Founder’s Profile

The founder of this unique venture is Mrs. Priya Shetiye. Priya, who hails from Margao, holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Applications and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management. She has previously worked as an HR Manager for Marpol Pvt

During the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, Priya started 300 plates were booked. Altogether, she managed to ways to proceed further with her venture. Response From The Public

When Priya just started adding her enterprise, she didn't know how to market these products. “Usually customers do not invest freely in products when they are unsure about their quality, so sales were a big challenge during the initial days of the business”, says Priya. However, one of Priya’s friends approached her to participate in an exhibition organized by the Rotary Club in Ponda. Priya was initially a bit reluctant to participate in the exhibition, but with her husband’s support and loads of dedication, she managed to do a lot of business that day and since then, there has been no looking back for her. She continued to participate in various exhibitions in Panjim, Vasco, Mapusa and Margao as well.

Major Clients

Priya has participated in more than 30+ pop-ups all over Goa and has a strong clientele base. She is regularly involved in the process of gaining feedback from her clients. This interaction allows her to add/ change her products from time to time to make them more client-friendly. Her major clients include homemakers, professionals, women entrepreneurs, retail outlets, ayurvedic pharmacies and other clinics.

Challenges Faced

Priya faced many challenges while setting up Organic Mind, the biggest being the absence of a physical store. Responding to inquiries on WhatsApp or social media and sending photos and other details was difficult for her at times. However, she persevered and gradually built her clientele base through word-ofmouth recommendations and participating in pop-up events.

Another challenge which Priya faced while running her business was educating customers about the benefits of using eco-friendly products. She recollects multiple instances of people laughing at the bamboo toothbrushes and ridiculing them as wooden toothbrushes when she used to put them on display at exhibitions. “Educating people about the benefits of using eco-friendly products was needed and I took up the task to do so and rigorously explained to people the benefits of using bamboo toothbrushes”, says Priya. “These products at first glance may seem pricey as compared to the other products available in the market,

but customers who know the importance of health and sustainability do not need any explanation”, she adds.

Her Support System

While talking about the people and organizations who supported her the most while setting up Organic Mind, Priya mentions her husband, who believed that she could set up this venture and had complete faith in her abilities. Till today, Priya discusses the various problems she faces while running her enterprise and her husband helps her out in dealing with problems.

She also mentions her father who used to get his car and take her and her products to various exhibitions in Vasco and Panjim. “As of today, I have learnt to drive and I take my products all by myself now but that unflinching support from my father is truly valuable and I feel greatly indebted to him”.

She also mentions the support that she received from GoWomania Goa, founded by Siya Shaikh. The platform gave Priya a lot of opportunities to promote her products. People like Dr Sneha Bhagwat of Oorja Wellness Centre, Margao and Dr Sapna Sawal of Dhanwantari Clinic also helped Priya to promote her venture by displaying some of her products at their respective clinics.

Priya adds that the Women Business Network WEBN has played an important role in the growth of the venture. “I joined Women Business Network which helped me to connect with more than 80 women entrepreneurs for referrals, connections and networking. In the process, I managed to upgrade my business with the guidelines given on a timely basis”, she says.

“Also, most of my family members, friends and office colleagues have always motivated me and have constantly encouraged me to continue the good work that I have been doing. Their support has been instrumental in taking Organic Mind to the level where it is at today”.

Future Plans

Priya plans to expand Organic Mind's reach by opening a physical store in the future. This will provide customers with a more immersive experience and allow them to see and feel the products before purchasing them. She also plans to venture into manufacturing farm fresh foods as well as fruits and vegetables.

Her Message

Priya says that switching to a green lifestyle can significantly reduce waste generation and promote the reuse and recycling of waste products. This will prevent the earth from becoming a large dump yard in the coming years. In short, using eco-friendly products will preserve the planet and all its inhabitants from the ill effects of human activity

“Regardless of wherever you go, people across the globe are now focusing on going green since it positively impacts the planet”, says Priya. “From plastic bag recycling to the treatment of chemical products, people are trying to come up with new and useful ways that are sustainable and useful in helping the world go green. My venture Organic Mind is an attempt to do the same.”, she adds

A Humanities graduate from Delhi University, Monalisa holds more than 18 years of work experience in diverse fields including hospitality, event management and teaching in pre-schools. She also worked as a private secretary for Dr. Y. S. Rajan, during the time when he was serving as the Scientific Secretary to the Government of India. Her years of experience in diverse fields greatly helped her to understand that the success of any business or service lies in one’s commitment to the job, excellent communication skills, paying attention to detail and the ability to provide the best experience for one’s customers.

Also, back in 2017 when the Government of India imposed a ban on plastic bags, Monalisa started researching alternative materials that could be used as packaging for gifts. It is then that she came across this beautiful golden fibre “Jute” which is sustainable, eco-friendly and long-lasting. “I started studying the market about jute and was very fascinated with the fact that a small plant can be converted into an innovative material that can be made to look beautiful as a gifting package”, Monalisa says. “Today, jute bags and jute products are used extensively in my customized and personalized gifting options”, she

Another major challenge which Monalisa faces even today is the difficulty in getting skilled and reliable manpower support to transport and deliver her products to customers. “As we are committed to delivering our products with zero waiting time without any hassle to our customers, my biggest challenge that I continue to navigate even today on a daily basis is the logistics of delivery of the products to all my customers and clients”, she says.

Response From The Public

Treazur received a very good response from the public when it just started. Monalisa’s friends and close acquaintances were her very first customers when she just started Treazur. They shared excellent feedback about her gifting items and gave extremely positive reviews about the uniqueness of the products they purchased from her.

Challenges Faced

Like any other entrepreneurial venture, Monalisa too faced several challenges and obstacles while setting up her enterprise. During the initial phase, she struggled a lot with finding a good place, big enough to stock up and showcase all her products to her customers. She eventually found a rented space, not too far from her residence, from where she could operate her business conveniently.

This boosted Monalisa’s confidence regarding the quality of her products as well as her service. She began to participate in pop-up events and the word about the unique gifting options offered by her soon started to spread across Goa. She started to receive more orders and enquiries, not only from individual clients but also from corporates and larger businesses looking for customized gifting options for their corporate events and clients. “The response I received from the public was positively overwhelming and it made me feel truly humbled to be appreciated by all my clients for my work”, says Mona Lisa

Till date, Treazur has catered to individual clients as well as big corporate and government organizations. Their long list of clients includes hotels like Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa, Hyatt Centric, Candolim, and Le Meridien, Calangute, private firms like VLW Global and Purple Tree Events, and government bodies like the Goa State Wetland Authority, Department of Science Technology & Environment, Government Of Goa, the Goa Biodiversity Board and the Reserve Bank of India. NGOs like Sabrcare Simplifying Cancer Care and Stars also feature in their long list of clients.

Monalisa’s Pillars of Support

Monalisa says that her husband, Mr. Kapil Dhawan, and her kids have been her biggest support and pillars of strength while setting up her venture. “Kapil was my angel investor who believed in my ideas and capabilities, funded my enterprise and guided me with all the required knowledge of the market when I was taking my very first steps with this new venture”, she says. “During the very early phase of my business, I was also very lucky to receive a lot of support from esteemed organisations like IHCL and Hyatt Centric, Candolim”.

Monalisa also makes a special mention of the role that Mr. Anmol Ahluwalia, the General Manager of Taj Fort Aguada and Village Spa played in supporting her venture and boosting her business. “I would not be enjoying the kind of success I am experiencing today, had it not been for the faith and trust that Mr. Ahluwalia put in me and my work when he gave me my very first big corporate order,” she says. “Mr. Ahluwalia gave me a free hand to work on new ideas for gifts for his corporate clients.

He also was instrumental in helping me build and expand my client network by connecting me with other corporate clients when I was an absolute newcomer in this industry. I feel greatly indebted to the support provided by this wonderful man” she adds.

Future Plans

In the years to come, Monalisa aims to scale up her business to a higher level. She intends to start her own manufacturing unit of Jute to make it a cost-effective and easily available product for the masses of Goa. “I would also definitely like to provide more opportunities for women, especially those from poorer sections of society by employing them and giving them a better livelihood”.

When asked what message she would like to share with aspiring entrepreneurs in Goa, this is what Monalisa had to say: “Follow your heart and keep learning. Learn from the challenges, never give up and keep working hard to get better at what you do. Be honest with your customers. If your products and services are good, they will come back to you again and again and will refer you to all their family members, finds and acquaintances”

Anorectal conditions are common worldwide and not only in India. Conditions like piles, fissures, and Fistula happen due to various reasons such as lack of fibre in the diet, consuming junk food and foods that contain a lot of spices, passing hard stool during

bowel movement, a sedentary lifestyle and others. I feel mainly people need to understand that not all problems in the anorectal area lead to piles, it could be other issues.

If a person is suffering through piles, they usually experience painless blood while passing stools. Whereas, those who have fissures, experience sharp, painful sensations in the anus while defecating followed by bleeding. In the case of a Fistula, usually one may have swelling followed by pain and blood mixed discharge from the perianal area.

To prevent such issues, I recommend that people drink at least 3-4 litres of water per day, consume a well-balanced diet that includes fibre, fruits and vegetables, avoid eating junk food and exercise regularly.
