Trevor Nicholls, un profundo panorama de la ITF y lo que dejó la pandemia

El vicepresidente de la International Taekwon-Do Federation habló sobre el momento de la institución y lo que vendrá.

El 2020 será recordado por muchos como un año para el olvido. O aún más duro, será calificado como el “peor año de la historia” o “el año donde todo pasó por nuestro lado y no pudimos hacer nada por evitarlo…”. Estas frases se escuchan a menudo en el acerbo popular que, entre otras cosas, descubrió que en el diccionario existía la palabra resiliencia. Esa capacidad de superar la adversidad, de sobreponerse a momentos críticos, es algo que siempre radicó en el Taekwon-Do, que forma parte de su filosofía: “Por supuesto que esta pandemia ha causado un montón de situaciones. Muchos vamos a recordar este momento en que empezamos a trabajar durante la pandemia. Lo importante es que estamos juntos hoy. Todo lo que tenemos que recordar hoy es a aquellos que hoy no están para poder entregar lo mejor de cada uno”, afirma el Grand Master Trevor Nicholls, el Vicepresidente de la ITF. Nicholls es crítico, y como tal, sabe que los errores sólo pueden ser enmendados primero reconociéndolos y luego trabajando en ellos: “Una de las cuestiones importantes es que muchos instructores alrededor del mundo han pensado que la ITF los dejó caer. Hemos tenido poca comunicación desde la ITF, el comité ejecutivo revisó esto y trabajará en consecuencia”. Y agregó: “Esta pandemia nos ha encontrado en un nuevo desafío y esto es a lo que estamos enfrentándonos. A partir de ahora tenemos que tratar de cambiar algunas ideas y conceptos”.

Habla de cambiar ideas y conceptos ¿a qué nuevo paradigma nos enfrentamos en un 2021 post pandemia?

El presidente Choi siempre dice que somos alumnos que estamos dispuestos a aprender. Tenemos que tratar de seguir para alcanzar ese objetivo para ir hacia delante. Estas oportunidades que nos da el ZOOM nos permitirán llegar a más personas alrededor del mundo y vamos a tener muchas más actividades.

¿Y más allá de lo tecnológico?

Queremos trabajar para que la ITF tenga más transparencia, por ello a partir de ahora a través de nuestra web se podrá identificar a todos nuestros instructores. La promoción y la graduación tienen que ser parte de una formación. Muchas de las actividades que se harán van a ser parte de la examinación. En principio vamos a reconectarnos con los maestros, para tener un contacto regular con la ITF, entendiendo que en cada país hay un instructor enseñando en nombre de la ITF.

These phrases are often heard in the popular acerbic that, among other things, discovered that the word resilience existed in the dictionary. This ability to overcome adversity, to overcome critical moments, is something that has always been rooted in Taekwon-Do, which is part of its philosophy: “Of course this pandemic has caused a lot of situations. Many of us will remember this moment when we began to work during the pandemic. The important thing is that we are together today. All we have to remember today is those who are not around today to be able to deliver their best, ”says Grand Master Trevor Nicholls, ITF Vice President. Nicholls is critical, and as such he knows that mistakes can only be corrected by first acknowledging them and then working on them: “One of the important issues is that many instructors around the world have thought that the ITF dropped them. We have had little communication from the ITF, the Executive committee reviewed this and will work accordingly. " And he added: “This pandemic has found us in a new challenge and this is what we are facing. From now on we have to try to change some ideas and concepts ”.

Talk about changing ideas and concepts, what new paradigm are we facing in a 2021 post-pandemic?

President Choi always says that we are students who are willing to learn. We have to try to continue to reach that goal to go forward. These opportunities that ZOOM gives us will allow us to reach more people around the world and we will have many more activities.

And beyond the technological?

We want to work so that the ITF has more transparency, so from now on through our website it will be possible to identify all our instructors. Promotion and graduation have to be part of a training. Many of the activities that will be done will be part of the examination. In principle we are going to reconnect with the teachers, to have regular contact with the ITF, understanding that in each country there is an instructor teaching on behalf of the ITF.
