Celebrating Cultural Diversity: NIS International Day Festival

It was a fun-filled International Day as the entire NIS community gathered together to celebrate diversity. Our families, students and teachers were so happy to showcase their different cultures and traditions.

We would like to thank our NIS Parent Community for their support in helping us with the various country booths. Everyone was happy to see all the food, artifacts, costumes and activities that they showcased intheirrespectivecountrybooths.

Wewould alsoliketothank ourteachers,staff members,studentsand their families for working together in the preparation of the performancesforourInternationalDayCelebration.

Itwasamemorableeventallbecauseoftheunityandpartnershipthat theentireNISCommunityshowed.

Ending World Hunger: NIS Zero Hunger Project

For this year's NIS International Day Celebration, Nibras International School focused on "Zero Hunger" which is one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The school,withthehelpofourGiftedandTalentedstudents andstudentleaders,ranaricebagcollectioncampaign

With this project, students, families and staff members were encouraged to bring rice bags with them as they entered the festival grounds. The objective was for them to donate as many rice bags as they could. The rice bags collectedwillthenbedonatedtotheUAEFoodBank.

We would like to thank the NIS community for supporting our students' Zero Hunger Project. We generated 1.5 tons of rice which was sent to Turkiye and Syria.

We would also like to thank the representative of UAE Food Bank for visiting our school and meeting our students.

Celebrating 100 Days in School of Elementary Students

We celebrated the 100th day in school of our Elementarystudents.

Students came to school dressed up as a 100-yearold person or while wearing clothes with math conceptsor100itemsonthem.

Senior Class Assembly

We had a Senior Class assembly where our Grade 12 students celebrated their last day of the first term.

Mr. Jason Sanservino, the Head of Secondary Department, Ms. Sabina Pecoraro, the Assistant Head and Dean of Academics, and Ms. Amena Saleem, our School Pastoral Counselor were in attendance to help the students count down the daysuntiltheirlastdayofhighschool.

Thinking Outside the Box on Innovation Day

We hosted an Innovation Day in Elementary, which allowed our students to showcase their learning. The students were handed a mystery box with different materials inside Their task was to create something using these materials followingtheinstructionsprovidedtothem.

This activity gave our students the chance to think outsidetheboxandapplytheircreativity!

KG 2 Performance Task: Understanding Weather

OurKGstudentshadaperformancetaskwherethey showcased their understanding of the different weathers around the world. They prepared models and collated detailed information about the different types of weather. They also created resources about howtostaysafeduringthesetypesofweather.

Throughthisactivity,theparentswitnessedhowtheir childrenwereabletoidentifyallweatherpatternsand connectthemtoreal-lifeexamples.

Grade 4 Performance Task: Energy and Forces

The Grade 4 students did a performance task on energy and forces. They were asked to design and build anything that required force and energy. The students took on the role of an engineer who would designsomethinginnovative.

Part of their task was to create a blueprint of their design, label the parts that relate to energy, explain the energy transformations happening in their design, and make notes of testing to see how they canimprovetheirexperiment.

Parents were then invited to witness the students present their works during the Elementary PerformanceTask.

Semester One Awards Ceremony

We had our Semester One Awards Ceremony where we celebrated theaccomplishmentsofourElementarystudents.

Parents Attend Workshop About "Road Map for Middle School"

We welcomed the parents of our Grades 5 students to our NIS Parent Academy about “Your Road Map for Middle School." The workshop gave parents a better understanding of how they can best support their children as they transition to the next grade level and how we can work in partnership to ensure that student's learning is supported in school and at home.

Learning About Emirati Culture and History

Our Emirati students from Grades 4 to 11 had their field trip attheEtihadMuseum.

The aim of their visit was to help the students learn about the history of the UAE, especially the unification of the Emirates, andforthemtounderstandtherichheritageofthecountry.

ElementarySportsDay

The Sports Day was the chance for our Grades 1 to 5 students to show us what they have been learning in their PE classes. Thank you to all the parents that attendedourElementarySportsDay

LearningPuzzleswithMath

In celebration of the World Puzzle Day, our Elementary students were asked to create their own puzzles using the different arithmetic operations they learned in class Through this project, the students were able to model their understandingofthelessonsintheirMathsubject.

StudyingtheHeart

In Anatomy and Physiology, our Secondary students performed a dissection of a heart. The class studied the cardiovascular system which included the structureandfunctionoftheheart.

DesigningDresses

In the Secondary Aesthetics Club, our students designed dresses according to their chosen theme and had to decide which materials to use for their creations.

Counselor's Desk: How to Exercise Being Kind to Oneself and Others?

From a very young age, we are taught to be kind, considerate, compassionate, and treat others the way we want to be treated. Kindness is contagious and it has the potentialtomaketheworldabetterplace.

Practicing kindness towards others and ourselves, may help in lowering pain levels, relieving stress, anxiety, and increasing life expectancy. When we express kindness, we arehealingothersandourselvesatthesametime.

Every year on February 17th , people around the world celebrate the Random Acts of Kindness Day. It is celebrated byindividuals,groupsandorganizationstoencourageactsof Kindness. Below are a few ways to show kindness to others andyourselfeveryday:

1. ReachOuttoOthers

Most people have a very hard time asking for help and often run away from it, as they see it as a weakness. There are several ways to help others and offer your companionship, such as offering to help a co-worker, sending a motivational text or a “Thinking of you” card to a friend or family member thatyouhaven’tspokentoforawhile.

Reaching out could also mean that you volunteer your time to a cause that is dear to your heart, and spread kindness withinyourcommunity.

2.Smileatothersandbegenerouswithyouraffection

Smiling is contagious and has a positive effect on our mental health It makes us feel seen, understood and acknowledged. When you smile at someone passing by you, the other person tends to smile back as a response. Small acts of kindness and affection can go a long way to show yourfamilyandfriendshowmuchwecareaboutthem

3.Betheretolisten

Being there to listen to a friend or family member may help relieve stress, and anxiety. Remember that being a good listener requires you to give your full attention, and to allow and provide a safe space for your friend and family member tosharehowtheyfeel.

4.Sendcarepackages

Care packages show your thoughtfulness, care and love to thereceiver.CarepackagesmayincludeIftarpackages during the Holy month of Ramadan, inviting friends and family over for Thanksgiving, or buying groceries for a family inneed.

5.Stayconnected

A check-in text, call or face-to-face meeting lets others know that you are thinking of them, that they are valued, and that you wish to stay connected despite the distances

6.Gettoknowyourco-workersandneighbors

Trytoconnectone-on-onewithdifferentcolleaguesand learn something new and interesting about them as humanbeings,notjustwhattheydoatwork

7. Random small acts of kindness can make a big difference

Sometimes taking time out and asking a simple question can make someone’s day Small acts of kindness that can create a big impact may include putting your skills to work for someone seeking a job and offering to create their resume, or letting another cargoaheadofyouduringyourdailycommute.

8.Say“ThankYou”,“Please”and“I’mSorry”

Gratitude, requests and apologies show that we are accountable for our actions and respect the other person. Very often, children model adult’s behaviors, and knowing that they are being apologized to, thanked andshowngratitudemakesthemfeelvaluedandsafe.

9. Don’t make assumptions if someone is being unkind

When you see someone who is acting in an unkind manner, it can be helpful to stop them and make an assumption. However, it is important to remember that there may be something that is triggering this behavior. They may be going through a period of trauma and they may have been hurt themselves Always remembertobekindandsupportive.

10.Beingkindtoyourself

Practicing kind words when talking about yourself, accepting yourself for who you are, while being a work inprogress,iscrucialtoyourgrowthasanindividual.
