TheHamiltonInternationalSchool,partof InternationalSchoolsPartnership(ISP),has beennamedanewIELTStestingcentrein DohabytheBritishCouncil Studentsfrom TheHamiltonInternationalSchoolwillhave accesstofreeIELTSpractisematerials, mocktestsand,moreimportantly,sitthe officialtestattheschoolcampus.

IthasbeenanotherbusymonthatHamiltonwitharealfocusonsporting opportunitiesforourstudentswhichhastiedinwiththeQatarNationalSports DayCelebrations Ourstudentshavetakenpartinanumberofcompetitionsas partofQUEPSAandQUESS,includingfootballtournaments,athletics competitions,cross-countryeventsandbasketballtournaments,someofwhich werehostedatHamilton.WehavehadsomegreatteamandIndividualsuccesses attheseeventsandwearestartingtoputHamiltonfirmlyonthemapintermsof oursportingprowess.

Inaddition,weenjoyedtwodayspackedfullofsportingopportunitiesand eventsforboththePrimaryandSecondarySchoolaspartofourownNational SportsDayCelebrations Arangeofathleticeventstookplaceinacarousel,and eachdayendedwithtug-of-warcompetitions Someofourteachersalsotookthe chancetoshowofftheirskillscompetinginahighjumpandsomeofthetrack events Agreatdaywashadbyall!

WithinthePrimarySchooltherehavebeenanumberofentryandexitpoints andtheTHISSkillsprogrammehascontinuedtotakeplaceeachThursday afternoonalongwithassemblies,centredaroundtheHamiltonvision,mission andcorevalues.Inaddition,ourKG2classeshaveenjoyedatriptotheKarama WaterAwarenessParkandGrade3studentshavehadtheopportunitytovisit Carluccio’sItalianrestaurant Thistriplinkedwithamathsunitofworkon fractions,andstudentsextendedtheirlearningbeyondtheclassroomwhilst makingpizzas

WithintheSecondarySchoolwehavebeenfortunatetohaveanumberof visitingspeakersthismonth.RepresentativesfromtheFacultyofMathematics attheUniversityofWaterlooinCanadahavedeliveredaworkshoptoourGrades 9and10students.Thisworkshopchallengedstudentstothinkcriticallyand creativelyastheystretchtheirmathematicsmusclesintheclassroom.In addition,arepresentativefromSimpleEDandthreeUSuniversitiesdelivereda "StudyintheUSA"workshoptoourHighSchoolStudents.Theuniversities spokeabouttheadmissionsprocessandrequirements,aswellaslifeinthe surroundingareaswhenlivingintheUS Followingapresentation,ourstudents hadtheopportunitytospeakwiththerepresentativesfromWichitaState, CarolinaCoastalandMaristUniversitiestoaskspecificquestionsintheformof aminiuniversityfair

Aswelookahead,weareexcitedattheprospectofcompetinginmoresporting competitions,aswellasincreasingtheopportunitiestolearnbeyondthe classroomasourschooltripscontinuetotakeplace.Nextmonthwewillalso hostournextNEASCAccreditationvisitandwearereallylookingforwardto welcomingourvisitorstoHamilton

OurKG1studentshadtheirExitPointforthetopic 'TheWorldAroundUs.'Throughoutthistopic,the childrendevelopedtheirunderstandingoftheir localenvironmentthroughplanting,birdwatching, protectingwildlife,andtheimportanceofreducing, reusing,andrecycling.Thechildrencametoschool dressedineithergreenorbluetocelebrateour beautifulplanetearth.Parentswereinvitedtothe BlackBoxTheatretowatchthechildrenactoutand performsomeofthethingstheyhadlearnedina shortplay.Tofinishoff,thechildrenthen performedasong,"TheTidyUpTeam,"alongwith thehelpoftheRecyclingBand!Itwasagreat afternoon,anditwaswonderfultohavesomany familiestheretocelebratethisoccasion.

OurKG1studentshadtheirEntryPointfortheir newtopic,'AnimalRescuers' Thechildrencamein dressedupasdifferentanimals.Wehadcats,bears, tigers,cows,crocodilesandeverythinginbetween! Thechildrenlovedpretendingtobethatanimal evenwentonaparadefortheotherclasses.They hadanamazingtimeinouranimaldanceparty, becausetheyhadtoshowofftheiranimalmoves.

AspartoftheIPCcurriculum,eachunitofwork isbasedaroundspecifictargetsderivedfromthe learninggoalsforoneormoresubjects.The purposeoftheExitPoint'Water'wastoraise people’sawarenessoftheimportanceofwater–andthechallengesfacedbymanycommunities worldwidethatdonotalwayshaveeasyaccessto clean,safewater.Withthechildren’shelp,we decidedontheworktheywantedtodisplayfor ourWaterDay.

OurKG2studentslearnthowwateris importanttoalllivinglivings–withoutwater; therewouldbenolifeonEarth.They understoodhowweusewatereverydayand howwedependonwatertostaycleanand healthy,justlikethemanyplantsandanimals weshareourworldwith

Forthisunit,thechildrenembarkedonan educationaltriptoQatar'sveryown KahramaaWaterAwarenessPark.Thepark aimstoraiseawarenessandencourage sustainablehabits.Ourstudentsenjoyedthe interactiveexhibitsandattractionsfor educationalexploration.

OurGrade1studentscompletedtheirExitPoint ‘Buildings ’Thechildrenworkedextremelyhardto createvarioushousesfromaroundtheworld.They showcasedthemaspartofour‘WorldVillages’ activity.Theparentshadtheopportunitytowalk aroundeachclassroomtoseeouramazinghouses, allmadewithrecycledmaterials.Whenthe childrenandparentsarrivedbacktotheirown classes,theyparticipatedinaquiz Pairingupwith theirparents,theyhadtotesttheirknowledgeof famousbuildingsfromaroundtheworld.Finally, thestudentsandparentsweregiventhetaskof teaminguponcemoretouse5piecesofpaperand cellotapetocreatethetalleststructure Itwasa greatmorningtofinishoffwhatwasbeenavery productivetopic!

Grade4ExitPoint

OurGrade4studentshavelearntmanynew thingsabout‘EarthasanIsland’ Throughoutthis areaofstudy,thechildrenhavelearnthowto maketheearthabetterplacebyrecycling,reusing andreducing.Theyhavedesignedtheirown Islands,T-Shirts.postersandprojectswhich couldhelpourplanet.

Grade5ExitPoint

WilllivingonMarsbecomeareality?OurGrade5 studentsshowcasedtheiramazinglearningon theirMissiontoMarstopicbyproducingfactual videosansweringthisquestion.Studentsshared theirknowledgeonclimate,hydroponics,energy sourcesandusededitingskillstocreate informativeshortmovies.

Parentswereinvitedtowatchtheirchildren's presentationsandprojects.

G4EntryPoint

OurGrade4studentscompletedtheirentrypointfor thenewIPCtopic'ExtremeSurvivors'.Thechildren wereimmersedinpolarhabitatswhilesnowfellon theirheads.Theymovedaroundthecarouselstations, whichincludedpolarbiomeart,aMathsandScience measuringstation,anewsbroadcastingstation,anda postcardwritingstation.Thechildrenhadafantastic timelearningaboutthepolarregionandusingtheir skillsandknowledgetocompletethetasksputinfront ofthem

PIZZATRIP

OurGrade3studentsvisitedCarluccio’s restaurant.Overtheweekofvisits,students weregivenanamazingpizzamaking masterclasswhichlinkedtotheworkthey haddoneonfractions,THISskillsand writinginstructions.Whenfirstarriving, studentslearnthowtomaketheperfect Italianpizzadough,shapeitwiththeirhands andaddthesecretItaliansauceand toppings.Thepizzaswerethencookedinan authenticpizzaovenandeveryonewasable toenjoywhattheyhadcreated

Afterreturningtoschool,studentsapplied theirexperiencetowritinginstructionsfor howtocreatetheperfectpizza,aswellas reflectingontheskillstheyhadlearntand experiencedduringtheday.

Secondary

TheFacultyofMathematicsfromtheUniversityof WaterlooinCanadarecentlydeliveredaworkshopto ourGrade9and10students.Thisworkshop challengedstudentstothinkcriticallyandcreatively astheystretchtheirmathematicsmusclesinthe classroom.Inagroupsetting,ProfessorJeffAnderson tookthestudentsthroughavarietyofmathproblems withtipsandtricksforhowbesttoapproachthem.He describedfreeresourcesforstudentstoenrichtheir mathknowledgeandexplainwhylearningmathisso importantintoday’sglobaleconomy Theseresources canbefoundoncemc.uwaterloo.ca.

The Under 8 & 9 Hamilton Girls and Boys Athletics Team placed 4th overall all winning a total of 3 Gold Medals,4SilverMedals,and4BronzeMedals

Our Under 10 & 11 Hamilton Girls and Boys Athletics Team placed 2nd overall all winning a total of 6 Gold Medals,7SilverMedals,and3BronzeMedals.
