THE

DRAGON RETU RNS BY ALLANA TACHAUER Before Saturday, February 23, Goran Dragić hadn’t seen time on the court for the Miami HEAT since December 10, 2018, when he played just 18 minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers. A 30-game absence following knee surgery didn’t mean the veteran hadn’t been doing everything he could to still contribute to the season though. And perhaps, more importantly, that he wasn’t ready to come back and help bring the team success. “Obviously going through his first surgery, it’s tough mentally,” said Dwyane Wade. “But he worked his way back… As he continues to get more comfortable with everything, we’ll figure everything else out.” Having previously averaged 15.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists a contest in 29.1 minutes over 14 games this year, the former All-Star may have to make some adjustments in his game moving forward.

” IT JUST IS GREAT TO HAVE HIM BACK OUT HERE ” - HEAD COACH ERIK SPOELSTRA

With teammate Justise Winslow having thrived while he filled in for the 32-year-old during his recovery, Head Coach Erik Spoelstra now has a choice to make: keep Winslow as the HEAT’s primary ball-handler, or hand the reigns back over to Dragić. “…the end of the day, the most important thing is to win a game,” Dragić said. “So whatever Coach is going to ask for us, we’re going to do that. Justise is going to play on the ball, I can play off the ball. So we’ll see. It depends on how we’re going to play.” An adjustment for all parties involved, certainly, but one with plenty of promise; especially considering it will be a while until anything is set in stone. Dragić will be on a minutes restriction for the near future, clocking in just 16 minutes in his return. “It just is great to have him back out here,” said Spoelstra. “When somebody goes in for surgery, at the time that he did, you think that could be it for the season. But he’s back and there’s nothing like real game action.” The other good news? It’s hard to make an argument for too many playmakers being a bad thing. “To beat the best teams in the league you need playmakers and that’s something at times where we’ve lacked this season because of injury and guys being out,” said Spoelstra. “So it’s a welcome addition to be able to have guys who can make plays.” This also includes Dion Waiters, who himself just returned to the lineup on January 2. Whatever position Dragić finds himself in down the line, one thing will remain constant: his role as a leader for the HEAT.

GEOFFREY VISITS THE HEAT Celebrity Chef Geoffrey Zakarian joined us for a Chefs Table on Dec 4, 2018 in the AmericanAirlines Lounges featuring Grey Goose. Fans enjoyed dishes from his award-winning restaurant Point Royal in Hollywood, including peppercorn crusted prime rib eye, roasted Maine diver scallops and crawfish mac and cheese. Chef Zakarian also enjoyed some time hanging out with HEAT players and snagged some new VICE merch before heading in and interacting with our fans. Thanks, Chef!

The HEAT would go on to win and force a final and decisive Game 7 in Miami against the Spurs!
