Il Castello Aragonese
l’antico borgo in mezzo al mare Il Castello Aragonese è una fortificazione che sorge su un'isola tidale di roccia trachitica posto sul versante orientale dell'isola d'Ischia, collegato per mezzo di un ponte in muratura lungo 220 m all'antico Borgo di Celsa, oggi conosciuto come Ischia Ponte. L'isolotto su cui è stato edificato il castello deriva da un'eruzione sinattica avvenuta oltre 300.000 anni fa. Raggiunge un'altezza di 113 metri sul livello del mare e ricopre una superficie di circa 56 000 m². Geologicamente è una bolla di magma che si è andata consolidando nel corso di fenomeni eruttivi e viene definita "cupola di ristagno". Sin dal 2003 nei suoi spazi all’aperto ogni anno nell’ultima settimana di giugno si svolge l’intera programmazione dell’Ischia Film Festival, l’evento cinematografico dedicato alla diversificazione culturale dei territori attraverso l’audiovisivo.
The Aragonese Castle
the ancient village in the middle of the sea The Aragonese Castle is a fortification built on tidal island of trachitica place rock on the eastern side of the island of Ischia, connected by a stone bridge 220 m long ancient Borgo of Celsa, now known as Ischia Ponte . The islet on which was built the castle comes from Synaptic eruption occurred 300,000 years ago. It reaches a height of 113 meters above sea level and covers an area of about 56,000 m². Geologically it is a bubble of magma that has been consolidating during eruptions, and is called "stagnation dome." Since 2003, in its open spaces every year the last week of June takes place the Ischia Film Festival, the international event dedicated to the cultural diversity of a places through audiovisual works.
La Cattedrale dell’Assunta the barouque church
Questa cattedrale fu eretta dalla popolazione in sostituzione di quella situata sull'isola maggiore, distrutta dall'eruzione vulcanica del 1301. È una basilica a tre navate, e lo spazio absidale era verosimilmente ricoperto da una cupola a sesto ribassato. Nel 1509 vi furono celebrate le nozze tra Ferrante d'Avalos e Vittoria Colonna. Originariamente di stile romanico, fu ritoccata nel XVI secolo e rifinita successivamente con stucchi barocchi. Nel 1809 fu distrutta dalle cannonate degli Inglesi, per cui si presenta oggi come uno spazio semiaperto, senza soffitto, è uno dei luoghi di proiezioni del festival.

This cathedral was built by the population to replace the one located on the largest island, destroyed by the volcanic eruption of 1301. It is a three-aisled basilica, and the apse area was probably covered by a low arch dome. In 1509 there were the wedding between Ferrante d'Avalos and Vittoria Colonna. Originally Romanesque, was remodeled in the sixteenth century and then finished with baroque stucco. In 1809 it was destroyed by cannon fire of the English, that is today a semi-open space, with no ceiling, and hosts one of the scrrening area of the festival.

the terrace of the olive trees Il terrazzo degli ulivi, utilizzato dalla Corte Reale, gode l’intera vista del golfo di Napoli e dell’imponente Vesuvio. Decine di ulivi fanno da sfondo a questa suggestiva location per le proiezioni del festival.
The terrace of the olive trees, used by the royal court enjoys the full view of the Bay of Naples and the Vesuv. Dozens of olive trees as a backdrop to this charming location for the festival screenings.

Terrazza della casa del sole terrace of the sun house
Antica costruzione del Castello, nella quale oggi sono esposti resti delle epoche passate ed arte moderna. Si possono ammirare pregevoli strutture archittetoniche, che si sovrappongono, risalenti ad epoche diverse.Dalla Casa del Sole si gode un meraviglioso panorama sulla baia di Cartaromana e con lo sguardo si può spaziare fino all’isola di Capri. Il terrazzo della Casa del Sole è una delle location delle proiezioni del Festival.
Ancient building of the castle, which today are exposed remains of bygone eras and modern art. The visitor can admire valuable archittetoniche structures, which overlap, dating back to eras diverse.From the terracce of the sun House a marvelous view of the Cartaromana bay over the background the island of Capri. The terrace of the Sun House is one of the screenings locations of the Festival.

Piazzale delle armi the weapon plaza
La Piazza d'armi del castello Aragoense si trova nella parte bassa del castello, le alte mure di protezioni denotano un avamposto bellico per la protezione del maniero. Al suo interno un enorme piazzale a ridosso della Santa Barbara che resta incastonata tra le mure del Castello. Tra i possenti muraglioni di difesa che circondano in gran parte il perimetro del castello sono visibili le feritoie che servivano per l'inserimento dei cannoni. La piazza d'Armi è aperta esclusivamente per le proiezioni del Festival.

The weapon plaza of the Aragoense Castle is located in the lower part of the castle, the high walls of protection denote a military outpost for the protection of the manor. Inside a huge square near the Santa Barbara remains built into the walls of the Castle. Among the mighty defensive walls that surround most of the perimeter of the castle they are visible the loopholes that were used for the insertion of the guns. The weapon square is open exclusively for the screenings of the Festival.

Cortile del carcere borbonico Bourbons jail courtyard
Nel 1823 Ferdinando I trasforma il Castello in luogo di pena per gli ergastolani e nel 1825 il figlio Francesco I ne fa addirittura un carcere per reati comuni. Nel 1851 il carcere viene trasformato in luogo di pena per i condannati politici tra cui Michele Pironti, Carlo Poerio, Nicola Nisco, Silvio Spaventa e altri che si sono opposti al potere dei Borbone. Con l'entrata di Garibaldi a Napoli nel 1860 il carcere politico viene soppresso e Ischia si unisce al Regno d'Italia. Il cortile del carcere si trasforma ogni estate in una delle location per le proiezioni del Festival.

In 1823 King Ferdinando Ist. transformes the castle as a place of punishment for the life-prisoners and in 1825 his son Francesco I makes of it a prison for common crimes. In 1851, the prison was transformed into a place of punishment for political convicts including Michele Pironti, Carlo Poerio, Nicola Nisco, Silvio Spaventa and others who opposed the power of the Bourbons. With the entry of Garibaldi in Naples in 1860 the political prison was suppressed and Ischia joined the Kingdom of Italy. The prison courtyard is transformed every summer into one of the locations for the Festival screenings.

In particolari aree del Castello, ogni anno viene allestita una mostra sul cinema. Nelle passate edizioni abbiamo ospitato: la mostra del premio Oscar Carlo Rambaldi “Atmosfere Spaziali”; la mostra fotografica di Philippe Antonello “Passion”; la mostra degli Scenografi e Costumisti italiani “Costruttori di Sogni”; la mostra del fotografo Americano Christopher Moloney “FILMography”; oltre a diverse mostre fotografiche realizzate in collaborazione con il Centro Cinema di Cesena a cura di Antonio Maraldi: “Le città del Cinema”; “Viaggio in Italia 1,2 e 3”; “I luohi di villegiatura del cinema italiano”.”.

Incontri Retrospettive e Focus MasterClass retrospective and focus Ogni sera, nelle diverse location del Castello, si svolgono gli incontri “Parliamo di Cinema” con gli ospiti del festival. Gli incontri avvengono di fronte al pubblico e sono condotti da giornalisti o da critici cinematografici. Ad ogni edizione del festival è programmato un focus sulla cinematografia di uno specifico territorio ed una retrospettiva dedicata ad un personaggio del cinema internazionale. Agli incontri hanno preso parte, nel corso di queste edizioni, 9 premi oscar, oltre 1500 presenze tra registi, attrici, attori, scenografi e produttori. .

Every night in different locations of the festival held the meetings "Let’s talk about Cinema" with the guests of the festival. The meetings take place in front of the festival audience and are conducted by journalists or film critics. In each edition there is a focus on local cinema and a retrospective dedicated to a personality of the movie industry. The meetings in the past editions were attended by 9 Oscars winners, over 1500 amoung filmmakers, actors, actresses, set designers and film producers.

Film cocktails & convegno sul Cineturismo® reserved area - Annual convention on MovieTourism Il festival dispone di un'area (Film Cocktail) esclusivamente riservata agli ospiti del festival, dove ogni sera, di fronte al suggestivo scenario del sole che tramonta, gli autori hanno la possibilità di incontrarsi con la stampa accreditata e i professionisti del cinema, in attesa di partecipare agli incontri e alle proiezioni. Sin dalla sua prima edizione il Festival ha posto l'accento sulle potenzialità di sviluppo economico e turistico derivanti dal connubio tra produzione cinematografica e territorio. Ogni anno si confrontano sul tema del “Cineturismo” professionisti del marketing territoriale e dell’audiovisivo provenienti da diverse parti del mondo.

The festival has an exclusively area (Film Cocktail) reserved for the guests of the festival, where every evening in front of an impressive backdrop of the sun set, the guests have the opportunity to meet the accredited press and their colleagues waiting to attend meetings and projections. Since its first edition, the Festival has placed emphasis on the economic and tourist development potential from the combination of film production and territory. Every year they discuss on the topic of "Film induced tourism" territorial marketing and audiovisual professionals from different parts of the world.
