Ambra Hair Salon
Ambra opened on April 30th, 2025, in Kanturk. It was the lifelong dream of its founder to bring a vision of a modern, luxury salon to life — and to do so in the town where her journey began makes it even more special.
Ambra was founded by Emily O’Callaghan, who has been working in hairdressing for 13 years. Her career has taken her from Kanturk to Cork, Limerick, Killarney, Charleville, and even Milan. Along the way, she became a L’Oréal Colour Trophy Top 5 finalist (Young Colourist, 2016) and a Wella TrendVision finalist (Creative Vision, 2017) — achievements that pushed her to keep raising her standards and growing as a colour specialist. After years in high-pressure salon environments, Emily wanted to create something different, a space where clients aren’t rushed or left waiting, but where every appointment feels calm, personal, and indulgent. For her, hairdressing is more than a job; it’s a way of life. Ambra was born out of the belief that hair can restore confidence, lift self-esteem, and be an act of selfcare.
Ambra’s clients range from students to professionals to retirees, all looking for polished, effortless hair that fits their lifestyle. Many are locals, but clients also travel
from outside Kanturk to visit the salon. Ambra is fully inclusive and welcoming to all, because everyone deserves to feel beautiful and cared for.
Ambra is not just another salon. It is a one-stylist experience, which means every client has Emily’s full attention from start to finish. She specialises in modern colour techniques, corrections, balayage, and luxury extensions, using only top-quality brands like Wella and Revlon. Emily constantly invests in education to stay on the cutting edge, so clients in a small town like Kanturk can access the same highend results you’d expect in a city.
Ambra is also built on values of inclusivity, sustainability, and compassion. No judgment, no rushed service, and no compromise on quality. The salon works exclusively with cruelty-free brands that align with this ethos.
Ambra operates in the hair, beauty, and wellness space, offering cutting, colour, styling, extensions, and luxury treatments. In just a few short months, Ambra has become fully booked weeks in advance, something Emily never imagined happening so quickly. Looking ahead, Ambra aims to grow into more than a salon: a destination
for luxury haircare, innovation, and education for the next generation of stylists.
Being nominated for a Duhallow Business Award is both humbling and motivating, proof that the dream Emily has poured her heart into is already making a difference in her community.

“This award would mean recognition not only for the hard work that goes into building a one-woman business from scratch, but also for the future Ambra is working towards: expanding into hair loss solutions for women, making confidence-building services more accessible, and creating training opportunities for the next generation of stylists.”

Ivy Aesthetics & Laser Clinic
Ivy Aesthetics & Laser Clinic opened in July 2023, though the idea had been building for a few years before that. Linda tells us ”I started the business myself after working as a beauty therapist for 25 years. Over the years I have kept training in new treatments and upskilling, so moving into aesthetics and skin treatments was a natural step for me. I’ve always taken my training seriously and invested in extra courses so that I feel fully qualified and confident in what I offer.”
“My clients range across all age groups. I provide piercings, skin treatments, body sculpting, laser hair removal and a wide range of aesthetic treatments. I also work with a doctor who provides Botox treatments in the clinic, so clients have access to medical aesthetics in a safe environment.”
What makes my clinic different is the variety of treatments under one roof and the fact that some of these aren’t available locally anywhere
“I
else. For example, I am the only clinic in the area offering advanced skin rejuvenation treatments, like skin boosters, dermal fillers, body sculpting, and I have a pelvic floor chair that has helped so many ladies in the area.
Most of my clients are local, but more and more people are travelling from across Cork, Kerry, and Limerick for treatments, which shows the reputation the clinic is building.
Where would you like to see the company in 5 years time?
In the next five years I would like Ivy Aesthetics & Laser Clinic to be even more established and wellknown in the wider area, not just locally. My aim is to grow into a busy clinic with a small, skilled team so that we can treat more clients while still giving everyone the personal care and attention that makes us different.
I want to keep learning and adding new treatments, because this industry is always moving forward. I’d like my clients to know that when they come to me, they are getting the very best treatments available,
done safely and professionally.
It’s also important to me that the clinic creates opportunities locally, whether that’s through jobs, training, or simply offering services locally. I would love Ivy Aesthetics to be seen as a trusted place people recommend to family and friends, somewhere that helps boost confidence and makes people feel good about themselves.
feel I deserve this award because of the difference the clinic makes to people. Clients often tell me how much more confident and happy they feel after their treatments, and for me that’s what it’s all about. Winning an award would mean the world to me as I love making people feel good about themselves, be that with the treatment they receive or even the chat we have while they are with me.”

Pawsative Steps
“My name is Mairead Twomey and I am the owner of Pawsative Steps. My journey into dog training began with a lifelong love of animals. I worked with horses and held various office roles, but everything changed when I adopted a rescue dog with behavioral challenges. I sought out a kind, science-based approach of training. I found an APDT-accredited trainer who not only helped my dog but also offered me work experience during my accredited course— sparking a passion for ethical dog training.
I gained practical experience through home boarding for guide dogs, fostering rescues, dog walking, and caring for my own three dogs—all of whom had tough beginnings and taught me invaluable lessons. I completed my FETAC Level 6 course with Creedons College in 2020 and joined respected organisations including the Pet Professionals Guild, APDT, and IAABC, all of which follow the LIMA (Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive) code.
In 2023, I launched Pawsative Steps, offering one-to-one consultations across North Cork, Cork City, and West Limerick. The business has grown to include

puppy and adolescent classes, online sessions, agility training, and workshops in Kanturk and local halls. I also assess rescue dogs before re-homing. The response has been heart-warming, with referrals from clients, vets, and local businesses.
Dog training in Ireland is unregulated, and many pet owners feel let down by harsh or unqualified trainers. I’m passionate about promoting reward-based methods, collaborating with like-minded trainers, and educating the next generation through school talks. Pawsative Steps offers a supportive, judgment-free space where dogs and owners learn together—with kindness, patience, and plenty of laughter.

“I’m always very proud to highlight and promote local female led business whenever I can. Dog training is often overlooked and not thought of as a business so it would be absolutely fantastic for a dog training business to get highlighted or win the award. It may also help to spread the word on kind, ethical science based training making it not quite so niche as it currently is. The more successful, ethical animal based businesses there is in the Duhallow the better it is for animal welfare and relationship between dogs and their people.”

FOLk Coffee
Our small business began in October 2024, just outside Millstreet in the peaceful Drishane Beg area, about 2km on the road to Mallow. I purchased and converted a horsebox into a coffee trailer, laying the foundation for a space where locals and visitors could gather and enjoy good quality coffee in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. What started as a simple coffee trailer has become a heartfelt journey rooted in love, tradition, and community. Originally from Slovakia, I grew up watching my father bring my mother a cup of coffee in bed every morning—a small but powerful act of love. That memory stayed with me and sparked my own passion for coffee. Years later, I found myself doing the same for my partner, Barbara. She would always say my coffee could transport her to another place—and she truly knows her coffee!
Barbara believed in me from the start. Her encouragement gave me the confidence to follow my dream of creating a space where people could

feel welcome, appreciated, and enjoy a truly special cup of coffee. That’s how our little trailer came to life.
Our coffee trailer isn’t just about serving drinks—it’s about creating a space where people feel welcome, heard, and appreciated. Every cup we serve is made with love and care, using traceable, specialty coffee sourced from producers who are as passionate about sustainability and community as we are. With every sip, we hope our customers can taste the journey— from the hills of Costa Rica where the beans are grown, to the quiet countryside of Millstreet where they’re brewed with heart. Looking Ahead
In five years, we dream of opening our own coffee shop—a cosy, inviting space where people can relax, connect, and enjoy not just great coffee, but a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A place where every visitor feels at home.
This is just the beginning of our journey, and we’re so grateful to share it with you— one cup at a time.

La Nostra Pizza Best Food Business
My name is Patrycjusz Romaszko and we run La Nostra Pizza, located on Percival Street, Kanturk. The pizza adventure began many years ago. It all started with a passion for making pizza. After a few years of experimenting, I finally managed to create the kind of pizza I had always envisioned. That’s when I made the decision to close down my car valeting and detailing business, which I had operated for 11 years.
My goal was to make great Neapolitan-style pizza using simple and fresh ingredients. Thanks to this approach, I attracted customers who are willing to pay a bit more for a quality product and prefer to eat a healthy pizza one made with high-quality ingredients, rather than something that has nothing to do with health or real flavor.
My pizzeria focuses exclusively on pizza and our own unique kebabs, which we created ourselves. We don’t serve fries or other dishes our focus is on doing one thing right,
rather than wasting time on what everyone else is selling
Where would you like to see the company in 5 years time?
I would like to open more pizzerias in Ireland.
At the moment, we are opening another location in Macroom. If things go well, I may consider turning the business into a franchise due to the high demand for Neapolitan pizza, as well as the relatively low costs of running and opening a new location.
lanostrapizzakanturk@yahoo.com
“I believe the concept is quite innovative. I moved away from the typical model where businesses try to do everything often at the cost of doing anything perfectly. We focus entirely on pizza. The dough and ingredients are carefully refined, and that’s only possible because we don’t waste time trying to do it all. It’s better to specialise in one area and do it exceptionally well than to offer many things with lower quality”

Mama is a Dreamer
My business Mama is a Dreamer is an online jewellery store where I sell my own handmade jewellery (bracelets, earrings, necklaces and rings) using freshwater pearls, gemstones, sterling silver & gold filled beads. I also sell a curated range of jewellery and accessories that I source in.
It really started unbeknownst to myself in early 2022. I was working full time in a corporate role in Cork with two very small children and I had just lost my mother to cancer. I felt a bit lost if I’m honest and I was in a phase of my life where I needed something of my own, just for me. I remember buying a bracelet from a very well known department store and returning it the next day thinking, I couldn’t justify spending the money on it and maybe I could make something like that myself. At the time I had a 1000 or so followers on Instagram, when I made my first bracelet I popped a picture on online and I received messages from people asking me to make jewellery for them. This really surprised me as I had never even considered that I might monetise my new hobby.
I spent some time honing my skills and researching materials to make sure I was creating bracelets that were durable and good quality. I focussed then on creating my own website and logo,my own
“You
marketing and over a few months launched my website. It wasn’t long before I was making orders over the weekends and in the evenings when the kids went to bed too. A year into it I decided to leave my role and to work on Mama is a Dreamer full time ,this was a huge decision for me and my husband as the business was still finding its feet but I felt that with me working at home,. I would have far more flexibility managing my own time around childcare and my two smallies.
My customers mainly come through Instagram. My following has grown steadily and now I have just under 8000 followers. I have had a lot of support locally in my village and across Duhallow which I am extremely grateful for. I offer a local pick up which is very popular. I have previously stocked my jewellery in a studio in Mallow which was great. I also set up a pop up shop at fashion shows, markets, our local hub in Kiskeam and events and this has always been a great success. I host jewellery making workshops at hen parties, community events and corporate settings which I love and are great for meeting new people and networking.
I suppose what sets me apart
know, time absolutely flies and the last few years I’ve kept the head down working away making jewellery, showing up at events and online and I haven’t really stepped back and taken stock of how much I have achieved over the last few years.”
is that I’m not just another faceless online business. Me and my business are one and the same,I’m front and centre of my brand and business which I think connects me to my customers. I offer a bespoke service to my customers. I am extremely personable and love interacting with them. Customers contact me with photographs of outfits for occasions and I make the jewellery to match, earrings, bracelets necklaces the whole lot. I love this side of the business!

Nail Studio by Irina
I’m Irina, the founder and nail artist behind ‘Nail Studio by Irina.’ Founded in 2024 in Killarney, my nail studio was born from a deep passion for beauty and care. What began as a personal interest has grown into my profession and life’s work.
My vision was to create more than just a place for manicures—I wanted to offer women a space where they could experience highquality nail care in an atmosphere of rest, confidence, and personal attention. Every appointment is designed to be a moment of selfcare, not just a service. My clients are women of all ages who appreciate quality, safety, and a tailored approach. Many see the studio as a trusted retreat, where they can relax and feel valued. What sets my work apart is a strong focus on detail, premium materials, and strict hygiene standards. Each design is crafted to reflect the individuality of the
client, and the studio atmosphere is always warm and welcoming. While I primarily serve Newmarket and surrounding areas, my work has reached further thanks to social media and word of mouth. The loyalty and trust of my returning clients is my greatest achievement so far.
Looking ahead, I plan to expand into a larger studio and introduce additional beauty services. This next step will allow me to continue growing while staying true to the values that built the business: care, quality, and connection. In five years, I see my business growing into a larger, welcoming beauty studio in Newmarket— offering nails, brows, lashes, and skincare in one space. My goal is to create a full self-care experience where every woman feels confident and cared for. I plan to build a passionate team that shares my values, so we can offer even more creativity and warmth. Growth for me means expanding services while keeping the personal connection that makes my studio special.

What sets my business apart is personal attention, strong hygiene standards, and designs tailored to each client. This award would recognise the dedication behind my work and motivate me to grow, expand services, and inspire others in my community.”

The Beauty Zone Salon & Academy
The Beauty Zone was established in 2017 by Rebecca Murphy. I had previously worked on cruise liners across the world in 5 star spas and wanted to bring the luxury and comfort into a salon back home. I had a vision of creating a client focused beauty salon in the heart of Kanturk town. Since opening our doors, we have grown into a thriving business with 4 local girls working here. We are known for quality treatments, exceptional customer care and commitment to innovation in the beauty industry. The business was started with the aim of providing high quality, accessible beauty services where clients feel comfortable. What began as a small salon has since grown into much more than that. This year in 2025, we proudly launched The Beauty Zone Academy, a fully accredited beauty training academy offering certified courses in spray tanning, nails, tinting, waxing and much
more. This new venture allows us to share our skills and expertise with aspiring beauty professionals and contribute to the future of the industry. Our customers range from everyday clients seeking beauty treatments to aspiring beauticians looking to start their careers. We serve a broad demographic from teens to older adults and we’re also working with students across Ireland who are interested in gaining qualifications in the beauty sector. What sets us apart from our competitors is our dual focus. We are not just a salon, we are also beauty educators. While many salons focus solely on treatments, we have expanded to professional training, empowering the next generation of beauty therapists. We have also been nominated three years in a row for the Best of Cork Awards.
As we continue to grow, our mission remains the same, to raise the standard of beauty services and education in the beauty sector.
“I believe The Beauty Zone & Academy deserves an award because we’re more than just a salon- we’re building a platform for growth and confidence in upcoming beauticians. What started as a small business has grown into something much bigger. With the launch of our academy, we’re now offering structured training to help local girls learn valuable skills and build careers in the beauty industry.”
We are proud to be a female led business that supports local employment, and gives confidence to everyone who walks through our doors whether they’re here for a treatment or training for their future careers.

Daly’s Garage was established in 1980 by its Main Founders Billy & Julian Daly. Daly’s Garage is a leading farm machinery sales, service, tractor parts and agricultural spare parts business which boasts a nationwide customer base. The Garage has an excellent reputation for sourcing New Holland, Massey Ferguson, Case and John Deere tractors from the UK with one owner and genuine hours. Second hand tractors represent great value for money compared to new tractors and this is the area that Billy and Julian have focused on in the last number of years along with their family. As well as used tractors, Daly’s Garage supplies a wide range of new and used agricultural equipment and parts. The family run business is a main dealer for Major vaccum tankers, Quicke front loaders, Rossmore front loaders, Nugent trailer, transport boxes,
and Vector fence post drivers. We stock tractor parts for John Deere, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, Valtra and much more. We also have an extensive farm machinery parts section which includes parts for Krone, John Deere, ring rollers, hedge- cutters, mowers, balers, spreaders, sprayers, bale wrappers and much more. Daly’s Garage also leads the way when it comes to service and repairs. Both Billy and his sons; Liam and Patrick are qualified tractor mechanics. Between them, they provide a complete range of proactive and reactive solutions to ensure that downtime is kept to an absolute minimum and farm machinery owners can get back to work as quickly and safely as possible. Liam and Patrick are Case and New Holland mechanics who are now well versed with the latest tractors and technology. As new tractor prices continue to sky rocket, more and more farmers and contractors are turning to the second hand market in their search for a value for money alternative. The Main owner Billy has a lot of English contacts made over the last 45 years and the younger generation would hope to continue to keep these contacts and establish more in the UK. We would also hope to establish the parts side of the business a little more. Our main
goal will be to expand our service/ products, embrace sustainability, and create lasting impact in our farm community while maintaining the personal, customer focused approach that sets us apart. Being able to offer value and service to our customer means everything to us. To this end, we are constantly striving to ensure every item we sell is competitively priced and the customer is happy with service we offer. We also hope as we expand our business that we can offer employment to the local community,

Our gymnastics club was founded in 2016 by Patricia O’Reilly. Patricia identified a clear gap in the market: there were no local gymnastics facilities, despite strong demand.
Today, the club proudly welcomes over 400 children every week, from toddlers as young as 18 months to teenagers up to 18 years. Our mission is simple: to make gymnastics inclusive, engaging and accessible for all children, regardless of ability.
What makes us different: Small coach-to-gymnast ratio so every child receives personal attention. High-quality equipment, continually upgraded thanks to support from IRD Duhallow. 20% of members are teenagers, bucking the trend of young people dropping out of sport.
Wide range of classes: parent-andtoddler, early intervention, special needs programmes, recreational classes, and competitive classes.
International opportunities: Our gymnasts compete abroad, including recent competitions in Paris and Sunderland, giving them experience on the world stage.
Staff of 10 coaches, includes a former Youth Olympian for Ukraine and two coaches who represented Ireland; brings invaluable international expertise and inspiration to our members.
Wider Impact: We host training courses for coaches from all over Ireland, raising standards nationally and helping gymnastics grow far beyond our club.
In five years, our goal is to build and operate our own purpose-built gymnastics facility in the area. This will give us the space, equipment, and resources to expand our programmes and welcome even

more children. It will also create further employment opportunities and ensure that young people in our community have access to the very best facilities for generations to come.
What sets us apart is our commitment to inclusivity, continuous improvement, and community. With a dedicated team and a clear vision to build a purpose-built gymnastics facility in the future, we are raising the standard of sport locally and nationally.
This award would recognise the positive difference we are already making and support us as we continue to grow, inspire, and give every child the chance to grow.

Sage Cleaning Services
Sage Cleaning Services, formerly Shaige Cleaning Services, was founded in 2020 by a mother-anddaughter team; Shan and Paige Hill, aiming to bring a fresh, inclusive approach to Cork’s cleaning industry. After researching the market, we saw a gap: many communities and businesses weren’t being properly served by larger providers. We launched Sage to offer reliable, highquality cleaning with a personal touch.
Starting with residential services, we’ve grown into a dynamic company serving a wide range of clients. Today, our work spans commercial and residential sectors—including offices, medical and veterinary clinics, and busy family homes. We also provide end-of-tenancy cleans for estate agents, post-construction cleaning, biohazard and trauma cleaning (in partnership with Mercy Hospital social workers), hoarder deep cleans, and sensitive home environments where compassion is key. Our specialist services include oven, carpet, and window cleaning, making us a one-
stop shop for homes and businesses. What sets us apart? We’re proud to be a fully female-owned and run business in a male-dominated industry. This perspective shapes how we treat our clients and staff—with trust, adaptability, and a people-first approach. Our services are backed by trained staff, full insurance, confidentiality, and a quality guarantee. Many clients say it’s our personal touch that keeps them coming back.
We’re also known for our versatility. While some companies focus on one niche, we work across residential, commercial, industrial, and specialist cleaning. Our clients range from families needing a one-off deep clean to recurring office and warehouse contracts. Regardless of the job size, we bring the same professionalism and attention to detail.
Sustainability is central to our work. We use eco-friendly products wherever possible to protect the environment and the health of our staff and clients. In sensitive services like trauma or hoarder cleaning, we combine technical expertise with compassion and discretion.
Since 2020, Sage has built a
“We believe Sage Cleaning Services deserves this award because we’ve proven that a small, family-run business can grow into a trusted, professional brand without losing its personal touch. Since starting in 2020, we’ve expanded from local residential cleans to securing major contracts with companies, while also becoming specialists in areas like post-construction, trauma, and biohazard cleaning.”
reputation for quality, care, and innovation. Being nominated again for this award is an honour and reflects our team’s dedication. We’re proud of our journey—and excited for what’s ahead.

Educare Centre Manager Elaine and staff member Catriona with children Tommy, Cayden, Zoey and Lucie
At Boherbue Educare, our mission is simple yet powerful: to create an environment where children are nurtured, families are supported, and our community thrives.
Founded in 2002 by dedicated locals led by Marie Collins, we began in a small room in the heart of the village. In 2007, with LEADER funding, we moved to our purpose-built centre, allowing us to expand and offer the highest standard of care and education. Our centre is more than a place of learning—it’s a hub where relationships grow, cultural identity is celebrated, and values like respect, kindness, and curiosity are encouraged daily. We proudly serve Boherbue, providing a safe, inclusive environment that reflects true community spirit.
Boherbue Educare Centre Staff
We focus on child-led early education, continually updating our practices to reflect the best in child development research while staying rooted in local strengths. Our staff are highly trained professionals who see their work as a vocation, ensuring every child receives the care and support to grow in confidence and ability.
We actively support families, recognising parents as a child’s first educators. Through regular communication and events—like Grandparents Day, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, concerts, open days, and visits to local landmarks—we make the wider community part of each child’s experience.
By doing so, we keep resources circulating within the community and contribute to its wellbeing.
We teach children about care for the environment, we strive to build awareness and responsibility from the earliest years. This helps ensure our work has a positive impact not only on today’s families but also on future generations.
Being nominated for the IRD Business Award is an honour. It acknowledges the hard work of our
