F OR EW OR D

SEPT TO DEC 2018 AT ÍONTAS ARTS AND COMMUNITY CENTRE Hello and welcome to a new season at Íontas Arts and Community Centre. Having just experienced the finest summer in living memory we are ready and set to go with a host of arts experiences, events and community activities. This Autumn we welcome back many old friends and some new. Highlights include the Back to Castleblayney music event which we are hosting as part of Castleblayney Celebrates Big Tom. As you know Tom passed away earlier in the year and his contribution to the cultural life of Monaghan and beyond is being recognised with the unveiling of a Statue in his memory beside Castleblayney Markethouse. We also welcome back innovative children’s festival TRADOODLE which will provide

lots of stimulating arts experiences for participants. We are also delighted to welcome theatre practitioner Declan Gorman who has just begun a year-long Theatre Artist in Residence for Country Monaghan. This is a significant milestone for both the arts community and the county in general and is happening with the support of Garage Theatre, Monaghan County Council, Creative Ireland and The Arts Council. See below for more information. The programme has something for everyone with the very best in Theatre, Comedy, Music, local productions, family events, community activities and workshops. We look forward to seeing you! The Arts and Events team at Íontas

Declan Gorman Newly-appointed Theatre Artist in Residence at Íontas writes: It is a great honour to be appointed to the first Theatre Artist Residency to be hosted in County Monaghan, a shared initiative of Íontas, Castleblayney and the Garage, Monaghan. Similar residencies have taken place in other theatres around the country but this is unique in its countywide reach, with the two venues collaborating. Over the next 12 months I look forward to developing connections with fellow Monaghan artists; engaging with communities and young people on a major programme that will consider diverse identities in this fast-changing modern county, particularly with Brexit steamrolling towards us; and also to guiding a unique project in Castleblayney involving children and adults, looking at the life and legacy of the remarkable but largely unknown local photographer, Dr JJ Clarke, who bequeathed us a beautiful collection of images of early 20th century Dublin and Castleblayney. Residency funded by the Arts Council and Monaghan County Council. JJ Clarke project grant-aided by Creative Ireland.
