On 1-2 February, partners of the Healthy Lifestyles for Europe (HL4EU) project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, held their first meeting in Lyons, France. Hosted by the European Network of Outdoor Sports (ENOS) and the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and coordinated by EuropeActive, the meeting formally kickstarted the activities of the HL4EU project and was marked by shared enthusiasm of all partners to get the ball rolling.
The aim of the HL4EU project is to foster greater cross-sectoral approaches to healthy lifestyle promotion, through the integration of physical activity, among a variety of stakeholders from the sport, physical activity, outdoor, health and mobility sectors. The goals of the project are in line with the European Commission and WHO’s vision and existing policy initiatives to tackle the growing burden of NCDs on our people, healthcare systems and society at large, and to reduce widespread health inequalities within and across EU Member States.
Strengthening the sustainability and legacy of the HL4A campaign;
The project will run between January 2024 – June 2026 and aim to achieve the aforementioned objectives by:
Enabling further sectoral change by identifying and sharing good practices;
Facilitating cross-sectoral collaboration on healthy lifestyle promotion by developing a dedicated stakeholders’ platform; Contributing to future healthy lifestyles related policy development through policy recommendations; Raising awareness on the importance of healthy lifestyles with governments, civil society and the general public.

During the meeting, partners held in-depth discussions on the design and implementation of the project and reflected on how to manage each activity and deliverable in the most efficient way. The core activities of 2024 will centre around the publication of the Call to Action in May 2024, a reference document illustrating the need for increased cross-sectoral approaches to healthy lifestyles, and the Community Building Conference in November 2024 in Brussels, Belgium. The consortium will also launch the landing page of the Cross-Sectoral Healthy Lifestyles Platform which will serve as the main hub for all project related activities and play a key role in attracting organisations outside of the consortium who want to work on promoting healthy lifestyles
We want to thank all our project partners for their active participation and invaluable contributions throughout the meeting. The HL4EU project consortium is composed of: Greek Carers Network (EPIONI), European Initiative for Exercise in Medicine (EIEIM), European Liver Patients’ Association (ELPA), European Network of Outdoor Sports (ENOS), Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI), It’s Great Out There Coalition (IGOTCo), and POLIS network. We are thrilled to see what the HL4EU project will achieve and will be sharing all the exciting updates with our members and partners along the way.

Behind-the-Scenes Insights: We often hear about the successes, but could you give us a glimpse behind the scenes? What were some challenges you faced together in the process of securing this investment, and how did you navigate them as a team?
Daniel: We’ve had to rethink and redefine our strategy. That was a painful process because we ’ ve had to change our mindset We went from being sort of an incubator of new ideas and business models to an organization that strives to be world-class in a limited scope: Support the digitalization of our industry in the areas of member management, financial services and member engagement. Navigating these challenges required resilience, strategic thinking, and effective collaboration as a team. By addressing each challenge head-on with determination and a shared vision.
27
Personal Growth and Lessons: Individually, what's the most significant lesson or personal growth you ' ve experienced through this fundraising process? How do you think this will shape your leadership moving forward?
Konstantin: It’s equally important to clearly define what you want to do and what you don’t do. Startups are often primarily opportunistic to be successful - if you want to scale and become best in class, you need to focus and be very precise in defining your strategy and communicating it to your team.
Celebrating Success: Finally, as partners in this achievement, how do you plan to celebrate this milestone? Are there any traditions or special ways you mark significant accomplishments that you ' re looking forward to?
Konstantin: We actually didn’t celebrate and don’t have any plans in that direction An investment comes with a lot of expectations and responsibilities. We will celebrate once we achieve the milestones that we agreed on in the investment thesis.
Dreams into Reality: Imagine it is the end of 2025, what does success look like and what have you eachbeen focusing on to get there?
Daniel: What we have achieved in the DACH region, namely becoming an industry standard, we now want to achieve worldwide It’s incredibly hard to scale a business cross-border and transform a successful local business into a global company. But we are not shy about ambitions and excited about the support from PSG on this journey

A central theme on this year ' s agenda is the exploration of quality assurance in training and assessment The event will delve into the core questions: What does quality assurance truly mean? What is EuropeActive seeking from its partners, and how can a best practice model be envisioned?
Furthermore, the Forum elucidates the integration of these considerations into the existing reaccreditation model for current partners, emphasizing the commitment to excellence in fitness education.
Attendees can anticipate a comprehensive update on Professional Standards, which includes a review of current standards and progress on new standards in the pipeline The Forum will provide clarity on the intended recipients of these standards, who can utilize them, and the intricacies of their creation and review process. A spotlight is cast on the crucial role played by the Professional Standards Committee and an invitation is extended to participants to actively engage in this process.
An integral part of the Training Provider Forum will be a workshop dedicated to the European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS).
