The promotion of sport and exercise is paramount for our industry. This requires all relevant stakeholders to collaborate. I suppose that one of the main reasons for joining the President’s Council was an aspiration to become part and assist in strengthening the industry’s representation, before third parties, as well as committing to sum the VivaGym ethos and estate to this selected group. Unity in time of need forgrowthandvisibilityofthefitnessindustrybefore otherindustriesandinsidetheeconomicecosystem isstrategicallyrelevant.Anefficientcommunication and the spreading of the purpose and strategic intent of our sector can be done better by joining forces I also see the PC as a space in which one could learn a lot, benefit from the collective experience and communicate with the main operators to create a common front for the benefit ofthewhole

At the #BEACTIVE DAY Conference in December, the inclusion theme for 2025 was unveiled: the critical role of physical activity in preventing and managing Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The primary inclusion objectives for the 2025 include:

Editorial by Birgit Berger, CEO of the European Heart Network
In December 2024, I had the privilege of presenting the European Heart Network’s (EHN) mission and perspective on the vital connection between physical activity, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and health at EuropeActive’s annual #BEACTIVEDAY conference. This invitation was an opportunity to highlight the critical role of physical activity in addressing one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time:cardiovasculardiseases(CVD).
As a Brussels-based alliance of over 30 foundations and associations, the EHN is dedicated to preventing CVD, advocating for patient interests, and funding research across Europe Our mission is clear: to lead the chargeinpromotingcardiovascularhealthandreducingtheburdenofCVD,andtoensureCVDisnolonger aleadingcauseofprematuredeathanddisabilityinEurope
Today, CVD remains the EU’s biggest killer - affecting 60 million people and accounting for 5 million new diagnoses annually Addressing this immense challenge requires a coordinated policy plan that promotes cardiovascular health and alleviates disease burden across the EU Central to this effort is the adoption of healthylifestyles, withregularphysicalactivityplayingapivotalrole
Regular physical activity is one of the most effective tools for enhancing cardiovascular health and improvingqualityoflife ItsbenefitsextendbeyondCVDpreventiontopositivelyimpactmultiplemodifiable riskfactors Forinstance, physicalactivity:
Lowers high blood pressure, reducing the risk of disease progression and improving quality of life for peoplewithhypertension, HelpsmaintainahealthyweightandplaysakeyroleintheprimarypreventionofType2diabetes, Isprotectiveagainstincidentsite-specificcancers(breast,colon,bladderandothers), Inhighlevels,coulddecreasetheriskofmultimorbidity,particularlycardiometabolicmultimorbidity1, And offers a 20-30% reduced risk of all-cause premature death to adults meeting physical activity guidelines.

EHN’s report on Physical Activity Policies for CardiovascularHealthhighlightsthreekeymessages:
Move More, Live Better: Daily activities like walking or cycling support cardiovascular health it’s never too latetostart 1.
Prevention Matters: Creating active societies requires systemic change, such as walkable cities and physical educationinschools
Rehabilitation is Crucial: Accessible pathways for strokesurvivorsandcardiacpatientsareessential, with inclusiveprogrammesforall
A healthier future requires collective action, and collaboration between national associations within the CVD and physical activity communities is critical. Such partnershipsareessentialtoimprovingthepreventionand managementofNCDs,includingCVD,whilealsoenhancing healthoutcomesandqualityoflifeforallEUcitizens
By working together, our associations can leverage their unique strengths and expertise to build more effective programmesandpoliciesthatpromotephysicalactivityas the bedrock of cardiovascular health Collaboration can drivethecreationofhealthyenvironments, fromaccessible urbanspacestoinclusiverehabilitationpathways, ensuring that people across all demographics can lead healthier lives Strengthened partnerships also have the potential to foster a culture of active living, benefiting individuals and society alike, and ultimately turning the tide on CVD’s impactacrossEurope.
