RwandAir sponsored eight Rwandan children, their mothers and two accompanying medical personnel with tickets from Kigali to Tel Aviv in Israel where the children underwent lifesaving heart treatment. This was made possible due to our recently opened direct flights between the two cities. We are proud to have supported this noble cause and we will keep supporting initiatives that contribute to the wellbeing of Rwandans and other communities where RwandAir operates.

On 6th September 2019, the Rwanda Development Board will host the 15th edition of “Kwita Izina” a gorilla naming ceremony, which is also the biggest event on the country’s tourism calendar. Every year, new born gorilla babies are celebrated in an exciting event at the foothills of the Virunga Mountains. The event has grown to attract thousands of international guests including high ranking government officials, celebrities, conservation activists, international media houses to name but a few. RwandAir as a key player in the tourism industry is very proud to have been among the sponsors of this event for the past years and we will continue to contribute to the growth of tourism in Rwanda.

My favorite destination is Switzerland.

It is a beautiful country. Geographically, the mountain tops often covered with snow, valleys decorated in numerous serene lakes surrounding very clean and organized cities makes it a sight one can never get enough of.

I have been blessed enough to visit this magnificent and orderly country multiple times and every time I set feet into Lausanne or Lucerne, I feel alive.

110 years ago, 60 families got together and founded a Jewish neighborhood near Jaffa, an ancient port city in Israel. They named it Ahuzat Bayit. A year later in 1910, the name was changed to Tel Aviv, meaning “hill of spring.” This neighborhood has since grown exponentially into a city of 438, 818 inhabitants. It is the second most populous city in Israel after Jerusalem. Although Jerusalem is regarded as Israel’s capital city, Tel Aviv is the country’s economic center.

There is so much to see once you set foot in this vibrant city.

Countless armed conflicts devastated whole countries and sacrificed several generations.

Famines that could not be mastered resulted in the fatal deaths of millions of Africans of all ages.

Several dignitaries knowingly chose to lean on their seats, which became thrones, while some nations experienced putsch attempts. Until the end of the 20th century, the majority of African countries didn’t have the opportunity to develop peacefully within a context of full political or socio-economic independence.

For twenty years, the situation has favorably evolved and the conditions of life have improved all over Africa, to such an extent that today, death risks in car accidents are higher than those that may be caused by an injury from an armed conflict. The situation has literally turned around, and a lot of spectacular progress has been observed and unanimously saluted in different

erhaps, the greatest animal conservationist and environmentalist of our time is Sir David Attenborough, whose lifetime has been dedicated

to increasing humanity’s awareness of the devastation caused by industrialization and global population growth and its impact on the animal kingdom, the seas and oceans and the source of our existence, the ecosystems. From the world’s tallest land mammal, the giraffe, the heaviest on earth, the African elephant to the most unusually scaled, the pangolin! The cry for conservationism and protectionism is growing louder on our Continent, with few African countries being recognized globally for taking conservationism, for animal welfare and environmental impact, seriously.

It all seems to come down to individuals, one standing out amongst the others, to just fight for the ‘wildlife’, to conserve the eco-systems for the relevance of all beings, to maintain the basic habitat and the processes of nature. In Zimbabwe, a short distance from the international airport of Harare, is a woman, with a farm of a different kind, whose known plight for animals was the reason she founded the “Wild is Life Trust and ZEN Sanctuary” almost 2 decades ago.

The story of Moyo is sweetly told, and followed by a deep sigh, as she recalls the ones that did not survive.

“Its so hard to lose an animal, the grief is haunting, some of the handlers are so wounded by the loss they wail in the night, some weep silently. I am the last person to handle the animal, the last person to say I’m sorry we failed you.”

What is the message that you want to leave here, what is it that you want to be remembered for? I ask.

“Respect. We need to learn to respect our planet, our environment, our heritage, our individuality, and our place amongst community. This is part of the philosophy to give. In giving there is everything.”

I believe that it’s in the interest of the market that there be some consolidation, it’s no secret that we are shopping for a potential consolidation in the market, insurance is a business that serves a very important public need. The consolidation will resolve into better efficiency, pricing and opportunities for consumers to buy better.

Sustainability By being listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange, it gives us greater access to capital, increase liquidity and there are also tremendous other benefits for raising our profile. Ten years ago the bank had 200 million dollars in assets, in 2019, the bank has crossed the billion dollar threshold of assets, that’s a huge victory for the Bank and for Rwanda, We are constantly looking for better ways to serve our customers, 27% of Rwandan have bank accounts, we believe that number should be up in the 70%, or 80% We are all about financial inclusion, tightening our margins, lowering our pricing and serving the population of this country.

His name has been buzzing around Kigali for some time now. Top chef and food entrepreneur Dieuveil Malonga is bringing his African roots and European kitchen experience together into whole new flavors and taste sensations.

Dieuveil Malonga (28) calls his signature dish Homeland, which he presents as a colorful and elegant plate, mixing different mango varieties prepared in various techniques with avocado cream, moringa, prawns and his special Sowetosauce, a blend of peanut, tomato and spices.

This dish, the ingredients of which can vary depending on the location, reflects his personal journey leading him from Africa to Europe and back to his Homeland. “My style is still evolving, as I learn and experiment every day.”

“DID YOU SAY RETURN?”: “Afroptimism” against reality By/Par: François Tahon

The Cameroonian essayist Yann Gwet, whose work is welcomed in the columns of several leading European newspapers (when he is not invited to comment on current events about the African continent on the radio) presented his first novel in Kigali.

The book largely autobiographical entitled “Did you say return?”, draws up an uncompromising list of the difficulties encountered when the African national, who left for Europe to train his mind, develop his skills and extend his knowledge, returns to his native land.

Yann Gwet was on familiar terms with the Parisian elite for several years, acquiring a university degree at Sciences Po before joining Accenture, a prestigious institution specializing in consulting. In both cases, this ambitious young person discovers a less glorious reality than expected and realizes that the reputation of those places were far from the daily reality of these establishments.

Dans un reportage radio, j’entendis les cris et les pleurs d’un jeune Tutsi qui venait de découvrir le corps dépecé de son frère, alors que je portais, moi aussi, le deuil de mon frère, tué quelque part dans les déserts afghans par les Moudjahidin. Depuis, le destin de ces deux pays me hante. Emezi’s photography typically focuses on women’s reproductive rights, sexuality, beauty and human rights, and has taken her across Nigeria as well as to Liberia, Ivory Coast, Kenya and Rwanda. Some of her assignments adopt a transnational outlook, demonstrating humanity’s interconnectedness. Case in point, her ongoing Relearning Bodies project explores trauma beyond violence and abuse among Nigerians and Liberians with scars. The project aims to make scars as normal as faces and disabuse society of the idea that those who bear them are imperfect or unlovable.

Take-Off Immediately after takeoff the aircraft climbs very steeply. Shortly afterwards you will hear a reduction in the engine sound, but the aircraft will continue to climb. All aircraft cabins are pressurized.

Due to change in pressure during takeoff and landing, some passengers may experience slight discomfort in the ear.

Relieve this by swallowing, yawning or pinching the nostrils gently and breathing out whilst keeping lips sealed. Should you feel unwell at any time, please ask the cabin crew for assistance.

Landing After touch down, you may notice an increase in engine noise level due to the reverse thrust being applied to assist braking. Please remain seated until the engines have been switched off and the doors are opened. Before leaving the aircraft, ensure you have all your belongings with you. Always keep your belt fastened until the plane comes to a complete stop.

nce upon a time, there lived a shepherd boy who was bored watching his flock of sheep on the hill. To amuse himself, he shouted, “Wolf! Wolf! The sheep

are being chased by the wolf!” The villagers came running to help the boy and save the sheep. They found nothing and the boy just laughed looking at their angry faces.

“Don’t cry ‘wolf’ when there’s no wolf boy!”, they said angrily and left.

The boy just laughed at them.

After a while, he got bored and cried ‘wolf!’

again, fooling the villagers a second time. The angry villagers warned the boy a second time and left. The boy continued watching the flock. After a while, he saw a real wolf and cried loudly, “Wolf! Please help! The wolf is chasing the sheep. Help!”

But this time, no one turned up to help. By evening, when the boy didn’t return home, the villagers wondered what happened to him and went up the hill. The boy sat on the hill weeping.

“Why didn’t you come when I called out that there was a wolf?” he asked angrily. “The flock is scattered now”, he said.

An old villager approached him and said, “People won’t

believe liars even when they tell the truth. We’ll look for your sheep tomorrow morning. Let’s go home now”.
