Ana Engelhorn Interior Design Ltd
for creating timeless interiors for residential and commercial properties, Londonbased interior designer Ana Engelhorn uses her knowledge to design visually appealing spaces. Her creativity has won her an award for the Farmhouse Catalan in Spain. The farmhouse isn’t short on old-fashioned charm and historical facts as it comprises two towers dating back to the 16th century – both used to watch for pirates coming in from sea. The residence had previously undergone small renovations to create little rooms, a fake ceiling and two stairways, thus removing the elements that made it truly unique. Ana’s task was therefore to bring this building back to its former glory by removing the additional walls, ceiling and second staircase to give the family a three-bedroom house they could use as their summer residence.
The outcome included the restoration of traditional stone floors and the inclusion of antique oak boards upstairs. To accentuate the property’s high ceilings, large airy rooms were needed to coincide with the beautiful Spanish countryside. A large open-plan kitchen coupled with a dining room and two children’s bedrooms can be viewed on the southside of the building. On the north side, a brief wander through a walkway leads to a large living room, while the first floor houses a large open-plan master bedroom that includes a dressing room and bathroom designed with a freestanding cast-iron bath. The first floor allows access to the towers, with the west tower being used as a library and the east as a shoe closet. Overall, hints of pale colours adorn each room highlighting antique furniture and contemporary art.
