From the Editor
As I sit down to write this month's Editor’s notes, I'm filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride. This June marks a truly special milestone for intouch Magazine – our 10th anniversary! A full decade of bringing you the stories, faces, and voices that make Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and the broader Hunter Region the vibrant community we all call home.
When we launched intouch in 2015, our vision was simple: to celebrate the extraordinary people and moments that often go unnoticed in our corner of the world. That mission remains at our heart ten years later, but the journey has exceeded our wildest dreams. From our early interviews with visiting international performers like Andrea Bocelli and André Rieu to more recent conversations with Amy Shark, The Corrs, and Human Nature, we've had the privilege of capturing the magic that happens when worldclass talent meets our passionate local audiences.
What's thrilled us most over the past decade is witnessing the incredible growth of our local events calendar. Our region has transformed into a cultural powerhouse with venues and community hubs across the Hunter consistently delivering world-class entertainment (we’re thinking Paul McCartney at McDonald Jones Stadium – who would have thought!).
This month perfectly showcases that evolution – from Disney On Ice bringing family magic to thousands of Novocastrians (our cover story celebrates the international performers who call this show home for months at a time), to Opera Hunter's punk-inspired Sweeney Todd proving that innovative local theatre can rival anything in the capitals.
We're equally excited to feature the Namba family's latest culinary venture, ÂPÉ Chilean Nikkei Restaurant, which represents the kind of sophisticated dining experience that's helping put Newcastle on Australia's gastronomic map. Their story – from a cattle farm in Gunnedah to three acclaimed restaurants in Newcastle – epitomises the entrepreneurial spirit that drives our region forward.
Theatre lovers have much to anticipate with The Queen's Nanny at PACC, a production that perfectly demonstrates how our regional venues continue to attract quality touring shows that challenge and entertain in equal measure.
As we look ahead to another decade, we're inspired by the abundance of talent, creativity, and community spirit that surrounds us. Thank you for joining us on this incredible journey – here's to ten more years of celebrating everything that makes our corner of Australia truly special. Enjoy!

Get ready to laugh until it hurts as Australia's most iconic comedy tour rolls into Cessnock this June! The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow is bringing the best acts from the 2025 festival directly to Performance Arts Culture Cessnock (PACC) on Thursday, 5 June at 7:30pm – the perfect way to kick off the long weekend with a bang.
Now in its impressive 27th year, the Roadshow has become a comedy institution, delivering top-tier humour to over 80 destinations nationwide. This year's stellar line-up features some of the brightest stars from
Melbourne's comedy scene, guaranteeing an evening of side-splitting entertainment that will have you "wiping tears away and wheezing from the sheer joy," as Australian Stage perfectly put it.
Leading the charge as MC is Sydney's Harry Jun, the beloved host of ABC's Good Game, who has garnered millions of views across YouTube and TikTok. Joining him is Alex Ward, the whip-smart comedian known for her regular appearances on Have You Been Paying Attention? and her writing work on The Project. Her approachable humour makes
even her most personal stories feel universally relatable.
Comedy legend Danielle Walker brings her signature off-beat style to the stage. The Far North Queensland native has had an incredible journey since moving to Melbourne in 2015, winning Raw Comedy in 2016, snagging Best Newcomer at MICF in 2018, and most recently taking out the first season of Taskmaster Australia.
Rounding out this incredible cast are Zack Dyer, the laid-back North Queenslander whose absurd observations and working-class bogan family stories have made him a festival favourite since winning Triple J's RAW comedy in 2017, and UK import Paddy Young, whose sharp wit and viral sketches have earned him international acclaim.
The two-hour, 20-minute show (including interval) promises something for everyone's sense of humour. As The Sunday Times noted, the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow "has everyone's humour covered."
Whether you're a comedy connoisseur or simply need a good laugh after a long week, this is your chance to experience the best of Australian comedy without leaving the Hunter Valley. Tickets are available now through the PACC Box Office on (02) 4993 4266 or online at www.mypacc.com.au.

Local Dancer Morgan Hurrell Brings momenta Home
Newcastle-trained dancer Morgan Hurrell features in momenta, Sydney Dance Company’s hit production coming to the Civic Theatre for one show only on Wednesday, 6 August.
Originally from Mudgee, Morgan has been dancing since the age of two. After accepting an offer to attend Newcastle’s National Dance College, she completed her Diploma of Dance and moved to Sydney, where she was offered
a contract with Sydney Dance Company at the end of 2021.
Momenta exploded onto stages last year and received some of the best reviews in the company’s history. Choreographed by Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela, momenta takes audiences on a journey into the poetry and physicality of human bonds. The mesmerising contemporary dance work is a kaleidoscope of energy. The dancers transcend physical
limitations, exploring the full range of their bodies with grace, power and vulnerability.
“Before I start to create the dance, I create a visual mind map that allows me to build an intuitive framework around the main idea,” says Rafael.
“Momenta is the plural of momentum, originating from the Latin word, which means movement or motion. The development started exploring the concepts of momentum, force, movement, time and space.”
Working with collaborators Composer Nick Wales, Lighting Designer Damien Cooper and Set & Costume Designer Elizabeth Gadsby, Rafael goes on to describe the process of creating the show: “We imagine what momenta will sound like, feel like and look like. What is the world that the dancers will inhabit and be part of? For me personally, collaboration is a way of staying connected to an ongoing source of inspiration. I am thrilled I had the opportunity to put together a dream team to bring momenta to life.”
Momenta is described by The Sydney Morning Herald as “…an electric and arresting celebration of light and life…” and a “75-minute whirlwind of power, grace and physicality” by the Fjord Review.

Credit: Gary Bogdon
WORDS LIANE MORRIS | FEATURES WRITER IMAGES SOURCE FELD ENTERTAINMENT
The Newcastle Entertainment Centre is set to transform into a dazzling realm of colour, music, and skating magic as Disney On Ice presents Find Your Hero glides into town from 3–6 July
Bursting with heart, spectacle, and beloved characters, this enchanting production invites Novocastrians of all ages to step into the worlds of their favourite Disney heroes, where courage, adventure, and unforgettable memories await on the ice.
Returning with dazzling new features, Find Your Hero promises to be one of the most spectacular productions yet from the entertainment powerhouse Feld Entertainment. It’s more than just a show—it’s a cherished tradition that continues to evolve with each tour,
drawing families back year after year. It’s a sign of just how beloved the Disney tradition is with Newcastle audiences that it is the only noncapital city included in the tour every winter.
Hosted by the ever-charming Mickey Mouse and joined by his classic Disney companions, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy, the show whisks audiences into seven iconic Disney tales. These beloved characters act as guides on a magical journey celebrating courage, determination, and the hero within us all.
Join Mirabel from Encanto as she embarks on a heartfelt mission to save her family's cherished Casita while discovering that true strength lies in accepting ourselves and recognising the gifts we each possess—even when they’re not magical. Her story teaches that being true to yourself and loving those
around you is what truly makes you special, a message that resonates with audience members of all ages.
Young voyagers will be enthralled to witness Moana's determination as she ventures on an action-packed and daring voyage alongside the mighty demigod Maui. Her quest to save her island becomes a journey of self-discovery as she embraces her role as a wayfinder and uncovers her true identity amidst the vast ocean.
Fans of Frozen will once again delight in experiencing the magical bond between sisters, journeying alongside Anna, Elsa, and the lovable snowman Olaf on their quest to protect the kingdom of Arendelle. Their heartwarming tale showcases the strength found in unity and acceptance and the magic that lies in sisterhood, love, and sacrifice.
Dive Under the Sea with Ariel as she tests the power of true love in her pursuit of happiness. Get tangled in adventure with Rapunzel as she courageously explores the world beyond her tower for the first time. Witness Belle's compassion as she boldly tames the fearsome Beast, revealing the gentle heart beneath his rough exterior. Through these timeless stories, discover that courage, determination, and heart are all essential parts of the hero within you!
What makes Disney On Ice such a treasured experience isn’t just the storytelling—it’s the way these tales are told. With mind-blowing world-class figure skating, high-flying aerial acrobatics, unexpected stunts, intricate set designs, elaborate costumes and cutting-edge visual effects, Find Your Hero is both a theatrical and athletic marvel. With some of the most advanced ice-skating technology ever seen, the enchantment and thrills are dialled up to breathtaking levels that will have audiences gasping in awe and instantly transported to each magical world as the journey unfolds. Every moment of this immersive experience is designed to wow the audience.
Featuring a cast and crew of approximately 100 individuals, this ensemble includes over 50 professional skaters, many of whom are former Olympians (the youngest performer is 19 and the oldest is 55!) as well as technical crew members, costume designers, and support staff. The team tours extensively, bringing the magic of Disney to audiences worldwide. The dedication, athleticism and sheer talent are awe-inspiring, with cast members performing stunts at speeds that exceed 32 kilometres per hour, often executing up to 300 rotations per minute and sometimes having as little as 30 seconds to switch elaborate, often heavy costumes between scenes.
Feld Entertainment’s Disney On Ice has captivated audiences since 1981, when it debuted as Walt Disney’s World on Ice. Over
four decades later, the franchise has performed in more than 545 cities across 68 countries and 41 languages, entertaining an estimated 320 million guests. Each year, performers travel over 2.25 million kilometres, bringing Disney magic to life on the road.
The company remains the largest employer of professional ice skaters globally, with over 400 athletes on contract at any given time, many of whom are former Olympians. Skaters must undergo rigorous training—more than 550 hours of rehearsals—to be show-ready, and the selection process is highly competitive. Auditions are held globally, and skaters are encouraged to submit tapes via the Feld Entertainment website.
Beyond technical skill, it takes a special kind of passion and perseverance to thrive in this fast-paced environment.
Among the international cast bringing this production to life are Ida Sjölin from Sweden and Quentin Lourenco-Aubry of France— seasoned performers who not only share
the ice and a passion for skating, but also a romantic connection. Fittingly, the real-life couple portrays Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the Tangled sequence, bringing an added layer of chemistry to their performance.
Ida first dreamed of performing in Disney On Ice after watching a show as a five-year-old.
“I told my mom that’s what I wanted to do when I grew up,” she recalls.
“So, she enrolled me in skating training the following year, when I was six."
"All I ever wanted was to be a Disney Princess, and now I can live my dream. Dreams really do come true!”
Her dream became reality in 2017 when she auditioned in Örebro, Sweden, in her final year of high school and joined Feld Entertainment. She never considered any other career and included musical theatre training in her education. Since then, she has travelled the world with Disney On Ice, bringing smiles and joy to audiences in over two dozen countries.
“I love to portray a character, especially when you get to make a kid’s day by interacting with them,” says Ida.
“My favourite memory is performing my dream role as Rapunzel for the first time in Sweden in front of my coach and family. It was the most special moment – fulfilling a lifelong ambition.”
A multi-talented artist, Ida also enjoys singing, painting, reading fantasy (“anything
Credit: Heinz Kluetmeier
with a touch of magic”) and fire acrobatics. She has big plans for her own entertainment production company, VIS Productions, once her skating career winds down. For now, though, she’s enjoying every moment on the ice with no plans to slow down.
“The best thing about touring is all the places you get to see,” she says.
“The worst is missing family gatherings like Christmas and birthdays. We rely a lot on FaceTime, but the friendships and memories you make on the road are worth it. We support each other – it’s another family.”
Joining her on tour is Quentin Lourenco-Aubry from Bordeaux, France, who began skating as a child and rose to win the French National Championships in the first division at just 14. A long-time member of Disney On Ice, he joined Feld Entertainment in 2012 after auditioning in Toulouse.
“Performing makes families happy—and that’s everything,” says Quentin, for whom family is important and who counts his grandfather’s watch as his most prized possession. He also lists Brazilian jiu-jitsu among his talents and considers himself a pretty good cook.
“Our teacher took us to an ice rink, and the local skating coach saw me on the ice. I’d never skated before, but he saw something in me, took me on as part of the ice-skating team, and I went on to compete at a national level.
Both performers agree that life on the road has taught them resilience and adaptability. Maintaining their athleticism is a key component to their success, as is their drive to grow their skills on the ice.
“It’s tough work physically,” said Ida.
Quentin’s path to Disney On Ice was more circuitous than Ida’s.
“I discovered a natural talent for skating when I was seven years old on a school excursion,” said Quentin.
“When I turned 18, my local ice rink closed down, which meant that to continue in the sport, I would have needed to move to Paris, which I couldn’t afford to do. I started looking around for other options and had no idea that this was even an opportunity. I saw a Disney on Ice show with a friend and sent in a video straight away, and a few months later I was working on Disney On Ice.”
“It’s demanding and we make sure we eat right, work out, stretch our bodies, warm up and listen to our Athletics Coach who travels with us. Avoiding injury is paramount.”
“And we’re always keen for ‘ice-time’,” adds Quentin.
“As principals, we are allowed to warm up on the ice before the show starts. Often, we get ‘ice-time’ in the mornings before an evening show or after a show has finished for the night. They call it ‘open-ice’, which is a free-forall – everyone gets out on the ice to practice their skills and tricks, to train and take on new challenges. We learn from each other and support each other. And no, we never get sick of being on the ice. We love it.
“We usually begin as a single ensemble skater when we start out. In my case, I started in the ensemble, then became Andy from Toy Story 3. Learning to skate in pairs is a whole different skill set and takes a lot of trust to get in-sync with each other There is always something more to learn, new challenges to take on, new tricks to master – lifts, acrobatics and aerials – every year we try to add more to our repertoire.”
Life on the road includes taking advantage of a crate full of books (the ‘library’), board games and puzzles which the cast and crew share. Ida and Quentin often watch the Disney

films for inspiration to give more of that magic to the children in the audience. The couple are looking forward to their first visit to Australia, although Ida voices concerns over the spiders she may encounter! One thing is certain: both performers believe in the power of Disney magic and relish bringing that joy to audiences all around the world. And for those who have ambitions to perform on the ice, they have plenty of advice.
“My advice to kids who want to be performers?” Ida says.
“Work on being quick on your feet—the show world is fast. Acting skills help, too, so maybe take an acting class. And always be kind and motivated. Follow your dreams, work hard and believe in yourself.”
Quentin agrees, adding, “It’s true what they say, if you do what you love, you never have to work a day in your life. I want to be doing this for a long time to come. Whilst some skaters get injured and have to retire, others keep going into their 60s!”
For many Novocastrians, Disney On Ice has become more than an annual event—it’s a cherished family tradition that bridges the generations with the power to bring a nostalgic joy to the oldies and magical wonder to the little ones.
“It’s such a magical, multi-generational experience,” says a local mother of three who’s attended the show every year since her eldest was a toddler.
“My kids are mesmerised every time, and I always get a bit teary during the songs. It’s nostalgic for the adults, thrilling for the kids, and just such a joyful thing to share.”
Indeed, this year’s production promises plenty of those goosebumpinducing moments that have made Disney On Ice a family favourite for decades. Whether it’s the spectacular skating, heartfelt performances, or iconic soundtracks, Find Your Hero invites every audience member to step into a world of courage and wonder—and maybe even discover a little hero within themselves.

Royal Secrets Unveiled: The Queen's Nanny Comes to Cessnock
chord. Through Crawford's eyes – a woman systematically erased from royal history despite her pivotal role in shaping our future Queen –the play poses urgent questions about whose stories matter and why certain voices are deliberately silenced.
Director Priscilla Jackman deliberately strips away royal pageantry, focusing instead on raw human emotion and power dynamics. The result promises to be a provocative evening that challenges audiences to reconsider the carefully constructed narratives surrounding the monarchy.
A forgotten royal scandal takes centre stage this month when Melanie Tait's compelling comedy drama The Queen's Nanny arrives at Performance Arts Culture Cessnock (PACC) on Thursday, 26 June.
From the brilliant minds behind the sell-out hit The Appleton Ladies' Potato Race, this bold new production resurrects the extraordinary true story of Marion 'Crawfie' Crawford – the devoted Scottish governess who raised Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, only to face royal exile after daring to publish her memoirs.
Crawford's crime? Offering the British public its first intimate glimpse behind palace doors through her tell-all book. Tait's razor-sharp script imagines the explosive private confrontations between Crawfie and the formidable Queen Mother, delivering a theatrical experience that's both darkly humorous and politically charged.
The timing couldn't be more perfect. As Australia continues to wrestle with its colonial legacy following the Voice referendum, The Queen's Nanny strikes a particularly resonant
Thu 26 June 7:30pm
This isn't just another royal drama – it's a fierce reclamation of a woman's voice, exploring themes of class, loyalty, and betrayal that remain strikingly relevant today. In an era where institutional secrecy continues to clash with public transparency, Crawford's story serves as a powerful reminder of what happens when ordinary people dare to speak truth to power.
For Newcastle audiences seeking intelligent, thought-provoking theatre that entertains while it challenges, The Queen's Nanny promises an unforgettable night out. Tickets are available through the PACC Box Office on (02) 4993 4266 or online at www.mypacc.com.au.

Young Voices Drive Change at
Voice and agency doesn’t stop there. Participants in the program have planned accessible community events that are open to the greater public, with the goal of bridging the greater community together. With a Halloween disco held in 2024, a trivia-cosplay hybrid event held in early 2025, and now an upcoming Paint + Pizza event coming in June, participant voice is crucial to shape the events, from conception to execution. Once the event rolls around, group members see their vision and ideas come to life.
From week to week, the program offers a wide range of activities to meet the group's diverse interests. Each weekly session is jam-packed with fun things to do, ranging from hands-on art like clay models and canvas painting, to teambuilding challenges like tower building, to classic board games. There’s something for everyone in the program.
“I love the craft!” and “my favourite part of this place is making friends,” exclaimed one of our members.
“If I wasn’t here, I’d be so bored at home,” another noted.
Charlestown's Place-Based Abilities Program
WORDS THE PLACE – CHARLESTOWN
The Place-Based Abilities program, commencing in late 2024, is reaching its first full year of operation. Over the past year, this capacity-building program, a collaboration between The Place: Charlestown Community Centre and ReadyUpSkills, has offered an array of activities providing joy, skill-building and empowerment to both 10 to 16-year-olds and 17 to 25-year-olds age groups. Those who’ve joined us have been diligently working on a few group projects and events.
Our project focus thus far is the development of an Accessibility Audit App, which is informed by the participants every step of the way. From discussing what accessibility means to them with occupational therapist Grey from hbRehab, to devising how the app would function with IT expert Tristan from Myrtec, to working together in teams to build the landing page’s identity with icons, colours and logos – the project has brought countless inputs and perspectives to the forefront.
“I love making the app,” one member noted. “[This program] gives us a voice.”
With limited spots available in both age groups, and the program entirely free (no NDIS funding required), we encourage anyone interested to reach out to (02) 4032 5500 or to email youthprograms1@theplacecharlestown. org.au to register their interest. Hunter Drama is proud to present Disney’s Civic Theatre Newcastle, from 17 July to 2 August stage adaptation of the beloved animated film, brought to life by some of the region’s most talented young performers.
Directed by Luke Baker, with support from Assistant Director Abbey Fotheringham, and featuring musical direction by Rachel Davies and choreography by Vanessa Ambrose, this enchanting production celebrates love in all its forms, the strength of sisterhood, and the magic of self-discovery—continuing the Disney legacy of telling powerful, character-driven stories for modern audiences.

Packed with all the hit songs you know and love, such as Snowman? and more, the production promises a dazzling experience for audiences, young and old.

Get Back in the Game
A Free Support Program For Disengaged Youth
Do you know a young person aged 15 to 21 years of age who has completely disengaged from education, training or is not employed for more than 8 hours per week? Navigating your future can be daunting, especially if you’ve lost confidence or are experiencing difficulties that act as a barrier to engagement. For young people of the greater Hunter region, help is at hand.
The Get Back in the Game program, funded by the NSW Government and delivered by local
not-for-profit organisation Career Links, aims to inspire and support disengaged youth across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and the Hunter through one-on-one mentoring, career pathway planning, and support.
Program Manager Kerri Sadler believes it’s an amazing opportunity for young people who need help to move into work or further education and training.
“We currently have 92 young people registered in the program,” said Kerri.
“The most common barriers to engagement with school or employment are mental health issues, or issues around identity and culture or simply a lack of confidence. We recognise that school is not for everyone.
“The strength of our program is the ability of our youth mentors to build rapport. We operate from a Young Person Centred Approach, which basically means we listen, we hear them, we coach them, and we do it all with no judgements to help them on their career pathway.
“Of course, not every story is one of success, and this can be challenging for our youth mentors who put so much of themselves into their charges. We celebrate the small successes – every appointment met, the forms filled in, or an activity completed. And you never know what impact you’ve had on a person down the track.”
The program is voluntary and is not tied to any Centrelink payments or obligations. The program aims to help young people restore their confidence, build work readiness and life skills, and establish ongoing support for securing a positive framework for their future pathway.

Feathers and Fur Exhibition Brings Wildlife Art to Life
This June long weekend, Morpeth Gallery will come alive with the vibrant colours of Australia’s native wildlife as part of a special exhibition to celebrate World Environment Day
From Saturday, 7 June to Monday, 9 June, visitors can watch awardwinning wildlife artist Natalie Jane Parker paint at her easel and view her stunning depiction of a male Satin Bowerbird in his bower, inspired by a real-life bird on a property at nearby Brandy Hill.
The shy yet spectacular Satin Bowerbird is found throughout the Hunter Valley. Males build elaborate bowers on the ground, meticulously decorated with blue objects they collect, and the structure serves as a stage for elaborate courtship displays. The birds are notorious for their competitiveness, often stealing from rival bowers or sabotaging them altogether, but the builder tirelessly reconstructs his bower each time.
Entry to the gallery is free, and the exhibition will also feature several of Australia’s top wildlife artists, offering a rare opportunity to see the skill and passion behind their internationally renowned works. The Hunter Valley Finch Club will also return with their dazzling display of finches on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Whether you’re an art lover, nature enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique way to spend the long weekend, Feathers and Fur has something to inspire everyone. You’ll find Morpeth Gallery at 5 Green Street, Morpeth. For more info, visit www.morpethgallery.com.au.

Ageing Well in Rutherglen: Where Time Creates Liquid Treasures
Situated in the fertile Murray River valley of northeastern Victoria, Rutherglen stands as Australia's undisputed capital of fortified wine. This historic wine region, just three hours' drive from Melbourne airport, offers visitors an intoxicating blend of viticultural heritage, worldclass wines, and warm country hospitality that makes it an essential destination for any serious wine enthusiast.
Rutherglen's winemaking story began in the 1850s when European settlers recognised the region's potential for viticulture. The area's Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, proved perfect for producing the concentrated, complex wines that would become the region's calling card. Gold rush prosperity brought investment and expertise, establishing wineries that continue to operate today, some still under the stewardship of their founding families.
What truly sets Rutherglen apart is its mastery of fortified wine production and the ancient art of extended aging. These amber and topaz treasures, aged through a traditional solera system that can span decades, represent some of Australia's most distinctive and internationally acclaimed wines. The region's unique terroir, characterised by rich alluvial
soils deposited by the Murray River, combined with the patient dedication of multigenerational winemakers, creates fortified wines of extraordinary depth and complexity that improve with each passing year. In Rutherglen, time isn't just an ingredient – it's the secret that transforms good wine into liquid gold.
The crown jewel is undoubtedly Rutherglen Muscat, a dessert wine of legendary status that showcases the region's unparalleled ability to create wines of longevity and evolving complexity. Available from a number of local producers, the MoR Stamp of Authenticity is a trademark applied only to wines made from the great Muscat vineyards of the region.
The region also produces exceptional fortified Shiraz, demonstrating how traditional techniques can enhance robust red varieties. These wines combine the power of Shiraz with the concentration that comes from fortification and extended aging, creating wines of incredible depth and longevity.
While cool climate varieties like Durif, Shiraz, and increasingly popular Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio showcase the region's versatility, they serve as perfect companions to the main event – those ancient, amber treasures that have made Rutherglen famous worldwide.
De Bortoli acquired the historic Rutherglen Estates in 2018, adding this significant property to their family wine business that began in 1928. The Rutherglen Estate operates from a landmark building originally constructed as wine cellars in 1886, which housed various winemakers for over 100 years, including Seppelt's operations.
The modern cellar door showcases a diverse range of wines, including Italian and Mediterranean varietals alongside regional favourites like Durif and Muscat. The estate specialises in traditional Rutherglen styles with their own contemporary interpretation, offering award-winning fortified wines, including their famous Tawny.
For those seeking to fully immerse themselves in the Rutherglen experience, Tuileries Accommodation at De Bortoli offers luxury vineyard accommodation that perfectly complements the wine tasting journey. These beautifully appointed and recently renovated rooms sit amongst the vines, providing guests with picturesque views across the vineyard and the opportunity to witness the daily rhythms of winemaking life.
Staying at Tuileries provides exclusive access to special tastings and behind-the-scenes
experiences at De Bortoli, making it an ideal base for serious wine enthusiasts. The accommodation's location also offers easy access to other Rutherglen wineries, making it possible to explore the region thoroughly without the need for extensive travel.
The dining experience at Tuileries Restaurant at De Bortoli elevates the Rutherglen visit from excellent to extraordinary.
The menu changes seasonally to reflect the best available local ingredients, with modern Australian cuisine that incorporates strong regional influences and dishes designed to highlight the character of Rutherglen wines. The restaurant's extensive wine list features the very best from Rutherglen winemakers, naturally showcasing the full range of De Bortoli wines and a number of other local wines that also make an appearance on the extensive wine list, while celebrating the exceptional quality that has made the region famous.
Food and wine matching is a large part of the Tuileries' offering, with knowledgeable staff ready to make suggestions that enhance the dining experience. The restaurant's commitment to pairing their cuisine with quality wines demonstrates the versatility of Rutherglen's wine styles, from robust reds (they are famous for their Durif) to cool Pinot Grigios.
The dining room's design captures the essence of refined country dining, with the Tuscan-style courtyard providing a perfect backdrop for leisurely meals.
A newer addition to the Rutherglen landscape, Scion Wines brings fresh innovation to traditional fortified wine production. Founded by experienced winemakers with a deep understanding of
Rutherglen's aging traditions, Scion focuses on small-batch, artisanal fortified wines that honour the region's heritage. Their approach combines time-honoured solera methods with precise modern techniques, creating fortified wines that capture Rutherglen's essence while appealing to contemporary palates. Their intimate tasting room offers rare access to young and aged fortified wines side by side,

allowing visitors to understand the transformation that time creates in these remarkable wines. This Cellar Door provided us with our favourite wine of this trip – Muscat X - a contemporary spin on Rutherglen tradition. The blend of fortified brown muscat matured in ancient oak casks was designed to be served on the rocks, neat or in cocktails (and I can confirm it is delicious every which way). Also available from the Cellar Door is their Drunk Honey, which we think refers more to the bees making the tasty treat than the honey itself!
Established in 1870, Campbells Wines represents five generations of the Campbell family's mastery of fortified wine production. Their historic cellars house some of Australia's oldest continuously aged wine stocks, with some barrels containing fortified wines with base wines over 70 years old. The family's unwavering commitment to the traditional solera system has created a living library of extraordinary complexity, where each year's harvest joins wines from previous decades in their ancient casks. Their Merchant Prince Rare Rutherglen Muscat, containing wine components aged for over 70 years, is considered one of Australia's greatest dessert wines and consistently receives outstanding critical acclaim.
The family-owned Stanton & Killeen winery, established in 1875, exemplifies Rutherglen's artisanal approach to fortified wine aging. The Killeen family has maintained traditional solera methods across seven generations, creating fortified wines of remarkable complexity through patient aging. Their modified solera system spans multiple decades, with some wine components dating back to the early 1960s and housed in casks that are over 100 years old. What makes Stanton & Killeen particularly special is their commitment to traditional winemaking methods and their willingness to age wines far longer than commercial necessity demands. Their Classic and Grand Rutherglen Muscats represent exceptional value, offering genuine aged complexity at accessible prices. The winery's relaxed atmosphere includes barrel room tours where visitors can explore their historic cellars and century-old fortified barrels, providing insight into how fortified wines evolve over decades.
Our flying visit was only for 24 hours (an overnight stopover on a road trip to Melbourne), however, Rutherglen's compact size makes it perfect for a long weekend escape, and serious wine enthusiasts will find enough to explore for a full week. The region's cellar doors are generally open daily, though booking ahead for private tastings and experiences is recommended. The best times to visit are during harvest season (February to April) when the energy of winemaking fills the air, or during the cooler months when the pace is more relaxed and perfect for savouring aged wines. The June Long Weekend sees the annual Roam Rutherglen Festival come to town. It’s Australia’s oldest wine festival that continues to draw a big crowd of wine enthusiasts – a highlight on the annual Rutherglen calendar.

ÂPÉ Chilean Nikkei Restaurant
INTERVIEW LIANE MORRIS
IMAGES SOURCE ÂPÉ Restaurant
Japanese cuisine and culture have seen an extraordinary rise in popularity across Australia in recent years, with more Aussies than ever before travelling to Japan and embracing its rich culinary traditions. This national fascination has made a strong mark locally, and in Newcastle, the heartbeat of this cultural connection can be traced to one family whose vision and dedication have helped shape our city’s dining landscape.
At the centre of this story is the Namba family, whose influence spans three acclaimed Japanese restaurants: Nagisa, Susuru, and ÂPÉ Chilean Nikkei Restaurant. It all began with Chef Tetsuhiko Namba, a Tokyo-trained chef whose adventurous spirit took him from the kitchens of Sydney to the pastures of Gunnedah, where he raised his family on a cattle farm. In 2004, driven by passion and purpose, Tetsuhiko brought his family to Newcastle to open Nagisa at Honeysuckle—a bold step that would lay the foundation for a lasting culinary legacy.
Tetsuhiko’s sons Taiyo and Yohei joined the family business, Taiyo (formerly an architect) as business manager and Yohei as an awardwinning sommelier and restaurant manager.
“When you start out, you don’t know what people are going to want, so each of our restaurants has evolved over time, and we’re proud of what’s been achieved,” says Taiyo.
“With ÂPÉ, the space next door to Nagisa became available after Covid in 2022, and it
made from pineapples. Diners can, of course, choose to sit outside with views over the harbour, but all the action is inside!
When it comes to the food itself, there are several options for dining, including the à la carte menu, lunch service, a Butcher's Feast option priced at $125 per person, and the Feed Me Menu for dinner at $75 per person. They accommodate dietary restrictions and can cater for vegans, people with celiac disease, and those with nut allergies.
According to Taiyo, the steaks are “next level”, and the scallops will also “take you to culinary heaven!”
was perfect timing. Dad had just retired, and we wanted to do yakitori with charcoal cooking and drinks. Our Sous Chef at Nagisa was Chilean and had loads of experience cooking over charcoal flames, so we decided to nurture his talent, and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s worked out.
“Chef Nicholas Pedemonte has been influenced by the fusion of South American cuisine with Japanese, which is a big thing in South America, following as it does from a massive Japanese migration into Peru. It’s known as Nikkei, which literally translates to ‘of Japanese lineage’. The name ÂPÉ means ‘fire’ in indigenous Japanese, highlighting our focus on cooking over open flame.
“Diners can expect a seamless blend of the bold, vibrant tastes of South America with the refined, delicate techniques of Japanese cooking, a strong focus on fresh, seasonal and local ingredients of the highest quality and Wagyu Steaks sourced from a farm in Singleton to die for.
“In addition, there’s a real art to cooking over flame. It’s honest cooking and fabulous to watch, which our diners can do, because our kitchen is in the middle of the space. You can sit facing the chef as he cooks over the flames; it’s a bit of a show and has a wonderful warm vibe for the winter season.”
The ‘vibe’ is enhanced by the moody interiors designed by architect Ben Berwick around the concept of fire. They’ve used a lot of natural elements with sustainability in mind, including mycelium wall panels and leather
The Feed Me Menu includes Charred Seasonal Beans, Dry Aged Salmon, Dutch Carrot, Wagyu Cheese Gyoza, Hunter 14 Day Dry Aged Pork Belly, Teriyaki Zucchini, Market Fish, Wagyu Flank 7+ Tataki, and Hazelnuts and Cocoa Ganache for dessert. There are options to add two local oysters and the Wagyu Picanha 9+. If you’re wondering what the numbers stand for, it’s the level of marbling in the meat, and 9+ is the highest you can find in Australia.
The drinks menu is also taken very seriously at ÂPÉ, with the bar open to walk-ins not intending to eat. From Hunter-grown wines paired with dishes to unique cocktails that use traditional, local and sustainable ingredients, the intent is to make imbibing a ritual, sensory experience. A great number of Sake options are available from the beverage menu, but perhaps the most extraordinary feature is the over 100 different types of Whisky, ranging from $11 to $156 for the Taketsuru 21 Years Pure Malt.
Whether you're drawn in by the flame-kissed flavours, the curated drinks, or the immersive dining experience, ÂPÉ offers more than a meal—it’s a celebration of culture, craft, and connection. Visit www.apeyakitoribar.com.au for more information.

Let’s be honest—when the chill sets in and the sun clocks off early, staying motivated to move can feel like a real struggle. But Winter isn’t your body’s enemy—it’s just a change of season. And like all seasons, it offers a chance to shift gears, reassess, and recommit.
At Urth Fitness, we believe movement is medicine. Whether your goal is to feel better, try a new gym class, or simply keep your wellness on track, your cold-weather routine doesn’t need to be intense—it just needs to be intentional.
Start with the foundations. A consistent sleep routine and light structure can make all the difference. Prioritise rest, wake up at the same time each day, and block out time to train like you would any other important appointment. Whether it’s a sunrise session or something to wind down your workday, planning helps keep your health a priority, not an afterthought.
If your energy feels a little lower than usual, that’s okay. Making progress with your physical fitness doesn’t require you to always be in your highest gear. Winter can be the perfect season to slow things down, listen inward, and focus on consistency over intensity. Two to three well-fuelled workouts a week—paired with nourishing food, sleep, and recovery—can help you stay strong and steady through the colder months.
Low-impact workouts such as Reformer Pilates are also ideal for winter, allowing your body to build strength, flexibility and control without the wear and tear.
And while stepping into the cold can feel like a barrier, the first few minutes of movement are often all it takes to warm up your whole outlook. Layer up, start slow, and let the heat build from the inside out. You’ll rarely regret a workout, but you’ll often be glad you started.
If you require that extra push, booking a PT session or even bringing a friend helps. That’s why at Urth Fitness, you can bring a friend along for free every workout on our affordable Platinum Membership, because motivation loves company!
This Winter, move with intention and nurture your health. And trust that every session, no matter how small, is a step toward a stronger you.

What’s Really Behind That Swimming Pain?
LAITH
CUNNEEN Peak Physio
Laith is a physiotherapist with over a decade of clinical experience. He is Managing Director at Peak Physio, one of the region’s largest providers of health and rehabilitation services. intouch contributor
Swimming is widely recognised for its cardiovascular benefits and low-impact nature, making it a popular choice for people of all ages. However, despite its reputation as a jointfriendly sport, swimming carries a distinct set of injury risks.
Whether you’re a recreational swimmer or training competitively, understanding how to protect your body is essential to staying painfree and progressing efficiently.
Common Swimming Injuries
The repetitive overhead motion involved in most swim strokes places considerable stress on the shoulder joint. The most prevalent condition, “swimmer’s shoulder,” typically involves rotator cuff tendinopathy or subacromial impingement. This injury can significantly affect performance and may persist if not addressed early.
Other common issues include:
• Lower back strain due to sustained spinal extension, especially during freestyle and butterfly.
• Neck pain, often resulting from poor breathing mechanics and thoracic stiffness, leading to excessive cervical rotation.
• Breaststroker’s knee, caused by the whipkick action that places stress on the medial knee.
Shoulder instability, particularly in younger or hypermobile swimmers. These injuries tend to develop gradually and are invariably related to training volume, poor technique, or muscular imbalances.
What Makes Rehab for Swimmers Unique?
Swimming injuries are fascinating to physiotherapists because effective diagnosis and rehabilitation is truly individualised. While it’s often said that ‘everything is connected,’ in swimming, this really holds true, and injuries frequently stem from a mix of mechanical factors. Shoulder pain is a perfect example of how complex swimming injuries can be. Here are some things an expert would consider in an assessment:
Breaking Down Shoulder Pain
Shoulder Muscle Imbalance - Swimmers with shoulder pain commonly exhibit increased stiffness in the posterior deltoid (rear of the
shoulder). This can produce pain directly but also create a compressive, irritating force on the tendons of the rotator cuff.
Scapula Movement - The shoulder is complex due to its unique anatomy. It relies on the efficient gliding of the shoulder blade to achieve a full range of movement. This coordination (known as “scapulohumeral rhythm”) is fundamental to swimming, and dysfunction here often precipitates shoulder pain.
Spinal Mobility - Shoulder movement is not only constrained by the shoulder blade, but also by mobility of the thoracic spine. If you need convincing, try hunching forward and then reaching for the roof without changing your posture. Restrictions in thoracic extension or rotation inevitably result in overloading of the shoulder complex.
Lower Body Strength - You might expect the upper back and shoulder blade to play a role, but here’s where it gets interesting: Swimmers with shoulder pain frequently demonstrate greater strength in their opposite leg. This imbalance is thought to produce altered trunk and upper limb mechanics, resulting in excessive shoulder strain.
Why Expertise Matters
As you can see, assessing and treating a swimming injury (or any complex condition) isn’t just about easing the pain. It’s about understanding why those symptoms developed in the first place. Failure to address underlying causes can result in poor long-term outcomes, often leading people to seek out injections or surgical interventions before they’re really needed.
Physiotherapists who understand the mechanics can connect the dots and, instead of chasing symptoms, target the source of the problem.
If you’re struggling with a swimming-related injury or want to stay ahead of potential issues, don’t go it alone. Partnering with a skilled physio gives you the best shot at staying in the water and moving pain-free into the future.

The Purest Love
On Tour With the Kid
Sixteen years ago, I received a phone call to say that a pregnant Border Collie had been dumped at a local pound. She was safe with a foster family and was due to give birth any minute. This meant that in a couple of months, there would be puppies that needed to find new homes.
I had just taken on a new job with a venue and was heading to Hawaii before I began that job. For the first time in my life, I didn’t
have a pet at home. Three years prior, we had lost my beautiful black and white rescue dog Danni. Named after Danni Minogue because when we got her, she was super pretty but had done some not-so-smart things. I unreservedly apologise to both the dog and Danni Minogue, who turned out to be smart and lovely and just momentarily misunderstood.
loss again. When I went to visit the new mum and her puppies, all the thoughts of pain and loss went out the window as I held these cute, chubby furballs with a life of uncertainty ahead of them.
Two puppies had not been spoken for, and the thought that they might not land somewhere amazing was too much to bear, so just like that, we adopted them both.
In the week I started at the venue, I brought them both home. Musical names seemed appropriate. The boy was quiet and seemed to be always deep in thought, but loud and commanding when he had an audience. Diesel (after Johnny Diesel), it was.
The girl was smart as a whip, loud, and a little bit cheeky. Janis Joplin seemed like a good comparison, and as a bonus, Janice from The Muppets was my favourite, so she got the nickname JJ.
These gorgeous siblings were part of our family from that day on. Two years later, when I fell pregnant with the kid, mum bought me a doll that is still lovingly referred to as “Practice Baby”.
I would walk around with its legs sticking out of the carry harness to teach the puppies not to jump when the real bub came along. They remained together and part of our lives until we lost our beautiful boy 2 years ago. I didn’t think JJ would be able to go on without him, but at 16, she was still bouncy and doing well.
To be able to say goodbye to all three of my dogs, while they lay in the comfort of our family home, the last two with the support of a very caring vet, is the ending you wish for. I am heartbroken but incredibly grateful for the time we had together and the softness of the ending we chose. Everyone deserves that kindness. WARNING:
Her ashes sat on my shelf as a reminder that I wasn’t sure I could cope with that sort of
Last month, totally out of the blue, she got sick and was gone. The pure nature of the love you have for a pet is one of life’s most beautiful things. It is uncomplicated. You have never fought, they have never said anything unkind to you, they have just been by your side.

Sometimes, the difference between chaos and comfort is just one person. Emergency and short-term foster carers step into a child’s life when they need safety, stability, and compassion; fast.
At Key Assets Australia, we know that even a short stay can have a lifelong impact. Children
in crisis need a calm, caring adult to welcome them, not forever, but for now.
Annette, a carer from Key Assets Australia, knows this well. Over the years, she has provided over 1,167 nights of care to children, some for just a few days, while others have received care for several years. Each child has brought their own challenges, but also left their own mark.
Carers
“Seeing children developing new skills and growing their confidence as they live in a safe and happy environment, they learn that life doesn’t have to always be traumatic,” says Annette.
“Even the smallest moments make a difference. At times, things can be tough, but the positive changes in children can often outweigh the negative. The changes I have seen in children in my care bring so much reward and happiness.”
Emergency and short-term carers are urgently needed right now.
You don’t need to have parenting experience. Just empathy, flexibility, and a willingness to open your door.
Key Assets Australia provides:
• 24/7 support and guidance
• Paid respite and training
A dedicated worker and carer network
• Tailored supports for the child
• Social events and wellbeing programs

LOCAL TOURISM EXCELLENCE
CELEBRATED AT ANNUAL AWARDS
The Newcastle Tourism Industry Group (NTIG) celebrated outstanding achievements in hospitality and tourism at their 2025 Newcastle Hospitality & Tourism Awards last month. The
annual Awards Gala, held at Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, recognised exceptional talent across 12 categories representing the diverse local visitor economy.
"It has truly been a massive, thrilling night for our industry," said NTIG chair and CoastXP founder Dominic May. Despite challenging weather conditions on the evening, May noted the industry's resilience in providing memorable experiences for visitors regardless of circumstances.
The awards come at a time of significant growth for NTIG, with membership increasing by 12% over the past year and an impressive
91% growth over four years. Monthly member meetings have also grown in popularity, reflecting increased collaboration within the sector.
“As a committee, we are delighted to see our industry constantly striving to be more collaborative, to support each other through various means, including forming new relationships, which will ultimately lead to growing our industry, supporting education pathways and fostering a sustainable, accessible and thriving visitor economy in the Hunter Region,” said Dominic.
State Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp MP addressed attendees, highlighting the sector's valuable economic contribution and outlining government initiatives to enhance the NSW visitor economy through infrastructure investment, marketing campaigns, major events and night-time economy support.
The numbers speak to tourism's vital role in Newcastle's economy – visitors spend $16.4 million daily in the local area, with tourism businesses providing 4.2% of regional employment. Newcastle welcomes 4.8 million visitors annually.

Newcastle riders will don their finest attire and fire up classic motorcycles for The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride on Sunday, 15 June, joining a worldwide movement for men's health.
What began as a small gathering in Sydney in 2012 has transformed into the world's largest charity motorcycle event. Founder Mark Hawwa, inspired by a photograph of classic suits and vintage motorcycles, created The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride to combat negative stereotypes of motorcyclists while raising funds for men's health.
The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride has raised over $60 million since its inception, with more than 500,000 riders participating globally. Since partnering with Movember in 2016, the ride has invested over $70 million into prostate cancer research and men's mental health initiatives worldwide.
These funds support cutting-edge research, quality of life improvements for men living with prostate cancer, and innovative mental health programs. The collaboration addresses critical statistics:

Lake Macquarie City Council has adopted its $389.7 million Operational Plan for 20252026 following community consultation at an ordinary Council meeting at Morisset Showgrounds late last month.
The amended Delivery Program 20252029 and Operational Plan will guide the Council’s work over the next four years, with the operational component outlining key projects for the coming year.
Mayor Adam Shultz thanked residents for their engagement during the public exhibition process.
"Thank you to all members of the community who reviewed and provided feedback on these critical plans for our shared future," Mayor Shultz said.
"The engagement process showed strong advocacy for beach, lake and aquatic facilities, footpaths and cycleways, community and sporting facilities and infrastructure projects.
"The revised operational plan incorporates changes based on community feedback, and
we're excited to begin delivering on our vision for an even better Lake Macquarie."
The plan outlines 135 actions with 14 capital works programs worth $105.9 million. Feedback from 37 community submissions was considered in the revised plans.
Councillors also endorsed a Mayoral Minute to host a roundtable addressing safety concerns on the Fernleigh Awabakal Shared Track (FAST), bringing together NSW ministers, police, City of Newcastle and Taking Back Our Paths organisers.
"There have been multiple reports of unsafe and criminal behaviour, including assaults and harassment, particularly targeting women and vulnerable users," Mayor Shultz said.
"The reckless use of electric scooters, unregistered trail bikes and fast-moving cyclists has increased the risk for families, children and the elderly."
Other decisions included establishing the Lake Macquarie Mines Grouting Fund to assist developments impacted by mine subsidence, and approving $29,886 for four environmental research projects through the 2024-2025 Environmental Research Grants program.
One successful project involves Newcastle University studying blood-feeding mosquito host preferences in Lake Macquarie using DNA barcoding techniques.

Soul Song Choirs Bring Harmony to Newcastle and the Hunter Valley
In a time when genuine human connection is more essential than ever, Soul Song Choirs are striking a powerful chord—blending music with community spirit in a way that’s anything but traditional.
Expanding across Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, and online, Soul Song offers ‘choir, but not as you know it.’
They're redefining what it means to sing in a group with no auditions, a fresh repertoire of pop, soul, and gospel, and fun, relaxed
rehearsals. The focus is on joy, freedom, and connection—not perfection.
Last month, their musical family grew again with the launch of two new choirs in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. These groups are already flourishing, offering a space for locals to sing, connect, and even unwind over a post-rehearsal drink. Whether in the rehearsal room or socialising afterwards, members are quickly finding not only their voice, but their people.
What makes Soul Song unique is its inclusive approach. People from all walks of life—teachers, tradies, students, retirees—are welcome, regardless of experience or musical ability. All ages, cultures, religions and sexualities will find a safe place in the choir. Many members who have never sung previously or were told they ‘couldn’t sing’ have started rediscovering their voice in a supportive, energising environment.
New singers are always welcome, and the first session is free. Everything needed is provided, making it easy to jump in and sing from day one.
Beyond weekly rehearsals, Soul Song Choirs are a launching pad for unforgettable experiences. From performing at the Adelaide Fringe to singing at Hobart’s Festival of Voices or even touring the UK, the opportunities are as exciting as they are inclusive. Their open, flexible, and community-first model lets members be part of something bigger while still staying local.
The Newcastle and Hunter Valley choirs are not just about singing—they’re about belonging. As Soul Song continues to grow, it proves that music can build bridges, spark joy, and unite strangers in harmony.

ASTROLOGER KIM FAIRMINER ON WHAT’S IN THE STARS THIS MONTH
STAR OF THE MONTH
GEMINI
21 MAY – 21 JUNE
Tee up some bestie fun or a romantic rendezvous to fill your heart to the brim. The Full Moon in your partnership sector promises a fruitful time for reflection on your relationships and expressing your true feelings. Gratitude is everything this month, so stretch yourself and consider what you’ve learnt from your arch-nemesis. Ka-ching! Yes, the New Moon is ace for calling in financial flow and for recognising the spiritual wealth already at your fingertips. With Jupiter moving through your money sector over the next year, step into your generous era. Give and receive with open-hearted abundance.
CANCER 22 JUNE – 22 JULY
It’s Cancer season, little crab, which means it’s time you put your best claw forward and scuttle closer to your dreams. The Full Moon suggests some indecision around a health matter or your everyday routines. Evaluate your habits in transactional terms; are you getting a good return on your investment of time and energy? Later in the month, the universe gives you a good luck kiss on the head at the New Moon as you set off on fresh life adventures.
LEO 23 JULY – 22 AUGUST
Conserve your energy for best results this month. Contemplation and inner journeys hold great promise for spiritual growth and help build all-important social anticipation for your upcoming solar celebration. Be led by your instincts under the mid-month Full Moon and take a creative risk. Your children (or a pet project) achieve a milestone; you absolutely have planetary permission to puff up with pride.
VIRGO 23 AUGUST – 22 SEPTEMBER
You’re feeling a wee bit tetchy there, hey Virgo? You are a refined, sensitive soul, but your last nerve is rather exposed this month. The antidote? Rally the troops. You know who I mean: the people who love and support you no matter what. Sink into your eclectic home furnishings surrounded by this chosen family and revel in the Full Moon light.
LIBRA 23 SEPTEMBER – 22 OCTOBER
Prioritise depth this month and you’ll feel more in control. Yes, you are a softy at heart, but you are also incredibly strong and emotionally resilient. Be brave around the mid-month Full Moon and indulge in the free-range meanderings of your mind. Entertain these strange ideas bubbling up from the deep and accept the soul wisdom they carry. Be crystal clear about your New Moon wishes, especially your professional aspirations.
SCORPIO 23 OCTOBER – 21 NOVEMBER
Routine dragging you down, Scorpio? Connect with your dreams – perhaps literally through some dream journaling – but also set yourself a big-picture goal. Where do you want to go? What do you want to know? Lean into your becoming. The Full Moon offers a sweet little payday earner, more likely due to your own efforts than dumb luck.
SAGITTARIUS 22 NOVEMBER–21 DECEMBER
Your heart overflows with generosity and empathy as the Moon becomes full in your sign. Connect with your feelings and your soul yearnings, and enjoy a cathartic release of something you haven’t been able to adequately express with words. Too often we shy away from encounters that test our boundaries, yet these messy emotional experiences are as deeply human as our cravings for joy and comfort.
CAPRICORN 22 DECEMBER – 19 JANUARY
Are you ready to feel the love? June heralds the beginning of a beautiful chapter of romance and collaboration with someone special. Making the most of these transits means you need to trust the intuitive messages you receive. Stop second-guessing and tune in at the Full Moon. Not everything can (or will) make factual sense, and under stars like this, you need to trust your spirit team.
AQUARIUS 20 JANUARY – 18 FEBRUARY
You are no stranger to intensity and are ready to commit to your personal cosmic mission. At the Full Moon, look for the friends who are stepping forward to support you and your adventures. Take a chance on this friend (or group) because it shows the universe that you believe toast lands butter side up more often than it lands sticky side down.
PISCES 19 FEBRUARY – 20 MARCH
As you prefer to blend in, rather than stand out, you’ll experience ambiguous feelings about being in the public spotlight at the Full Moon. Thankfully, you are also no stranger to ambiguity, so you may as well make the most of this temporary boost in visibility. Chances are, people are celebrating your achievements, and no one cares about low-vibe armchair critics – especially not you! And especially not with a prolific creative cycle renewing under the auspices of lucky Jupiter at the New Moon. Green thumbs are lit; children thrive under your guidance; and artistic projects flourish.
ARIES 21 MARCH – 20 APRIL
Perpetually pondering the question is unlike you, but you are deep in thought this month. The Full Moon helps you make up your mind – a welcome return to your characteristically speedy style. And you are right! Any destination is a good destination, just as any topic is a good place to feed your curiosity. The path will reveal itself once you start walking it.
TAURUS 21 APRIL – 20 MAY
With your boss planet, Venus, cruising through your sign, you are feeling good and looking fine. Cosmic conditions favour you, so be a little bolder in pursuit of your goals, knowing the universe has your back. The Full Moon is an opportune time to evaluate your investments and financial agreements. Yes, stability is delightful, but be open-minded about changing direction. The lucky New Moon helps you insightfully connect the dots in your mind. Like a siren’s song, you channel evocative and compelling words; use this persuasive power wisely to bring people together.
