„Made in China“ steht im Kurzfilm seit jeher für Facettenreichtum und technische Finesse. Eine lange Tradition, die auch in den hier versammelten Kurzfilmen aus Mainland China, Taiwan und Hongkong Ausdruck findet. Animationen, Dokumentar- und Spielfilme erzählen von alten Männern beim Telefon-Dating, Schweinen in der Massenindustrie, kirchlicher Gehirnwäsche und von einem Lächeln, das den Tod bringt. Filme über Arbeit, Familie, Sehnsucht und Liebe – zwischen traditionellen Bräuchen und modernem Aufbruch. “Made in China” has long been a guarantee for rich diversity and technical finesse in the field of short film. This tradition continues to thrive in the works assembled here from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. These animations, documentaries and fictional films cover everything from elderly men hooked on phone dating to pigs in the mass meat industry, religious brainwashing, and a smile that literally kills. Films about work, family, desire and love teeter between traditional customs and the demands and wonders of contemporary life. All films will be screened in their original language with English subtitles. Each of the ca. 90 minute programs is composed of several short films.
