2025 Senate Elections: A New Chapter Begins a Film by Serena Bennett

of reckoning With 12 Senate seats at stake, Filipinos showed up in full force, reaching a remarkable voter turnout of 8220% It was the second-highest in midterm history, a clear sign that people wanted their voices heard in a political climate full of tension, shifting alliances, and uncertainty about the country’s direction
is far from fading Her endorsed candidates Bong Go, Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, and Rodante Marcoleta dominated the top spots Bong Go alone garnered over 27 million votes Their wins not only reaffirmed Duterte’s strong support base but also gave her critical allies in the Senate especially important as she faces a looming impeachment trial
7. Ping Lacson (Independent) – 15,106,111 votes
8. Tito Sotto (NPC) – 14,832,996 votes
9 Pia Cayetano (Nacionalista Party) – 14,573,430 votes
10 Camille Villar (Nacionalista Party) – 13,651,274 votes
nand Marcos Jr nistration’s hold on power, opposition figures like Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan clinched Senate seats Their victories reflect a growing wave of frustration among voters who feel left behind or unheard under the current leadership
5 Kiko Pangilinan (Liberal Party) – 15,343,229 votes
6 Rodante Marcoleta (Independent) – 15,250,723 votes
11. Lito Lapid (NPC) – 13,394,102 votes
12. Imee Marcos (Nacionalista Party) – 13,339,227 votes

More than just names and numbers, this election marked a shake-up in the Senate's power dynamics New alliances are sure to form Old rivalries could resurface And with such a mixed bag of political ideologies among the winners, the Senate is in for a potentially volatile but also exciting term What they debate, what they pass, and what they block will all matter deeply in the years to come, especially with the 2028 presidential elections slowly coming into view
In the end, the 2025 Senate race reminded us of something essential: Philippine politics is complex, but the people still have the power to shape it While Sara Duterte’s camp celebrates a strong showing, the opposition has proven it's still a force to be reckoned with As the 20th Congress opens its doors, the nation begins a new chapter one that could be filled with conflict, compromise, and maybe even hope
One thing’s for sure: the Filipino people have spoken And they’ll be watching closely

The 2nd CKCM Research Congress, held on March 4, 2025, showcased the growing research culture at Christ the King College de Maranding With the theme “Cultivating Research Excellence: Catholic Education’s Role in Shaping Future Researchers,” the event gathered college faculty and upper-year students for a day of learning, sharing, and academic celebration.
Led by the Research and Extension Council under Mr Vince Jayson A Villorijo, MAED, the Congress opened with a warm welcome by Dr Lydie D Paderanga and an energetic faculty performance Mr Villorijo highlighted the importance of sharing research and breaking stigma reminding participants that CKCM’s research can stand alongside those of larger institutions.
A powerful keynote was delivered by Dr Kenneth O Yagong, using the acronym SEARCH, he emphasized values like ethical responsibility, faith-driven inquiry, and resilience CKCM VP for Academic Affairs, Comm Christian TN Aguado, DiSDs, also inspired participants with a message on research with purpose.
Students from each college presented top research works in oral and poster categories Special faculty presenters and a team of 4th-year Education students Asnawi Ampaso, Christine Baclaan, and Devine Enriquez were featured for representing CKCM at the CEAP 1st International Research Conference in Baguio City, proving CKCM’s academic reach is growing.
The Congress closed with thanks from Ms. Jennilyn B. Obena, MS Crim., who encouraged students to pursue research in wider platforms. CKCM’s 2025 Congress was not just an event, but a movement toward academic excellence and innovation

“ DI TIYAK NA PAGLALAKBAY ”
-Celso Labuga Jr

“ D R E A M S I N M O T I O N ”
Turning every step into a brighter tomorrow.
Celso Labuga Jr.
While others called him just another student, we called him something else, “Kuya Wel.” Not just because he’s the eldest in his family, but because he carried something powerful on his shoulders, the Responsibility At first glance, he looked like your typical college student. Backpack on, modules in hand, walking quietly to class. But behind that calm face was a story of sacrifice, hustle, and heart.
Welmark is a self-supporting student. A 4th-year college dreamer with a hardworking hands and a heart full of hope He works not to impress but to provide Not to gain fame, but to give his parents a life they’ve never had.
“Gusto kong yumaman, hindi para sumikat kundi para maiahon ko ang pamilya ko sa kahirapan,” he once said.
That line? It stuck with us While others used their free time to rest, Kuya Wel used his to find work. Does summer jobs like SPES, office helper, and anything honest, he did it.
He worked between classes and studied between jobs. Even when his feet hurt or when sleep was short, he showed up Always With the little savings he had, he started raising pigs
Isang simpleng negosyo na may malaking pangarap sa likod.

“Someday,” he said, “magtutuloy-tuloy ito. Ito ang puhunan ko sa kinabukasan.”
He planted dreams not in soil but in sacrifice
Now, as a graduating student, Kuya Wel doesn’t just inspire us. He reminds us. He reminds us that we don’t need to be born rich to be successful. We don’t need everything handed to us to reach something great.
All we need is a reason strong enough to keep going, even when life tells us to stop.
Kuya Wel is not just a student. He is a bridge. A bridge from hardship to hope. From today’s struggle to tomorrow’s success.
To every student working in silence, To every dreamer carrying quiet battles,
You are not alone. Your story matters. Your dream is valid.
And just like Kuya Wel, you are creating a path worth walking; one step, one sacrifice, one dream at a time

STORIES OF SETBACKS: WHAT STUDENTS LEARNED FROM TOUGH MOMENTS
Everyone faces setbacks, but it’s how we deal with them that really matters As a fellow CKCM student, I’ve had my fair share too That’s why I sat down with a few students who opened up about the challenges they faced and what those moments taught them Here are our stories
“CKCM Still Accepted Me”
Shared by an Anonymous Student
“I was in my second year as an Education student back in 2022 Life was going okay I had good friends, we did our schoolwork together, and even during online classes, they’d visit me at home to work on projects since I couldn’t go out much
But everything changed when my mom got sick Around February to March, she started getting in and out of the hospital We thought she was getting better by April, but by August, things turned worse That’s when we found out she had stage 4 cancer
We tried everything From hospitals in Marawi to CDO, we didn’t give up But cancer is strong We lost her in October 2022 It was Teacher’s Day Losing her felt like I lost myself too I stopped going to school I barely got out of bed I felt like I couldn’t continue anymore
Eventually, someone told me to keep going, that my mom wouldn’t want to see me like that It wasn’t easy I had so many absences, and I honestly thought I wouldn’t be allowed to come back But CKCM still welcomed me They didn’t invalidate what I went through They understood That meant so much to me I’m just really thankful Even after everything, CKCM gave me a chance to continue ”
Beauty Isn’t Always About Winning”
Shared by Christine Grace Baclaan
"I was really hurt and disappointed in myself, knowing that so many people were rooting for me to win the crown I gave it my all I smiled for the crowd even though deep inside, I was under so much pressure I could really feel their support
That experience became a big lesson for me A true beauty queen knows how to accept defeat You won’t always meet people’s standards, and that’s okay It’s okay to fail sometimes Your time will come
I kept reminding myself back then that this was just part of the journey There will be moments when you ' re at the top, and there will be times when you ' re not As a titleholder from our barangay, I was overconfident I had high expectations of myself But even when I went home without a single award, I learned to face that moment with grace With the help of the Lord, I accepted that failure is also a part of life "
“Losing Taught Me to Lead Differently” –
Asnawi on Election Loss
“I really wanted to serve in the Education Department during the 2023–2024 academic year. I ran for Vice Governor for Academic Affairs, and honestly, not winning was tough. It was a close fight, and I had really hoped to get the chance. I felt disappointed for a while. But that experience taught me a lot. I realized that leadership isn’t just about holding a title, it’s about the willingness to serve, even in smaller ways. Eventually, I was elected as Year Level Mayor, and that became an opportunity I truly appreciated It showed me that sometimes, not getting what you want right away doesn’t mean the end, it could just be a redirection toward something better ”
These stories remind us that setbacks can be powerful teachers At CKCM, we don’t just learn from books we learn from life, from faith, and from each other Through these experiences, we grow into individuals who are strong, kind, and ready to lead with compassion and purpose
BEYOND RELIGION: FINDING LOVE AND UNITY AT CKCM
ASNAWI AMPASO
In a world often divided by beliefs, CKCM stands as a quiet reminder that unity is possible even in diversity. Here, students of different faiths walk the same halls, share the same classrooms, and grow together, not just academically, but spiritually and emotionally. I spoke with a few students from nonCatholic backgrounds who opened up about their experiences studying in a Catholic institution. What they shared was more than just tolerance, it was acceptance, friendship, and a space where faith is respected, and hearts are heard
Lady Myrese Lao, who is Iglesia ni Cristo, said:
“I was a bit nervous at first, wondering if my beliefs would be respected But honestly, the school has been very kind and understanding. Teachers and classmates are respectful and open. It’s great to see how we all get along despite our differences. It really shows that respect and tolerance can go a long way. ”
Ahmida Maliawao, a Muslim student, shared:
“One thing I truly appreciate is how the school allowed us Muslims to form our own organization the Islamic Students Organization. Through it, we ’ re able to hold sermons and strengthen our Islamic faith, even while studying in a Catholic institution The teachers here are also very supportive and considerate I’ve even built meaningful friendships with people from different religions. For me, having a different faith isn’t a barrier, it’s actually an opportunity to learn from others and grow together. I feel genuinely accepted here, and that makes it easier to focus on my studies and be confident in who I am. ”

Devine Enriquez, who follows Pentecostal Christianity, reflected:
“I wasn’t sure how my faith would fit in at a Catholic school, but I’ve felt very welcomed. The teachers never discourage my beliefs, and my classmates are respectful and curious Being here has helped me grow in my faith and also learn more about others. It’s been a really positive experience.”
These students’ experiences show that faith doesn’t have to divide us, but it can teach us to listen, to love, and to lead with understanding. At CKCM, religion is not a wall but a bridge, helping students appreciate differences while discovering what unites them. In the end, it's not about what church, mosque, or chapel you come from, it's about how we treat one another. And here at CKCM, kindness, respect, and shared growth lead the way.
