The First Shot The first known CCTV cameras were installed way back in 1942 by the Germans to observe a launching of rockets. Walter Bruch, a renowned German engineer, was credited with the installation and technology and is thus considered as the inventor of CCTV cameras. For the next few years, CCTVs were mostly used for non-commercial purposes until the first instance in the US in 1949.

Technology for Better Captures The early CCTVs needed to be monitored continuously as their feeds could not be recorded. They worked on magnetic tapes which needed to be changed once they ran out of space. This whole task was very cumbersome. With the emergence of the Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) technology CCTVs too got a boost. Advancements such as multiplexing, time-lapse recording, motion-only recording, and the internet made them even more popular and commercially viable.

CCTV found their first commercial application in the form of pay-per-view theatre television for sports. A game or match would be broadcasted live to certain theatres where people could come, pay and watch the game live. Later the police department in several cities in the US started using them to keep an eye on the busy areas with the intent to reduce and stop criminal incidents. Dome Cameras are named so because of their dome-shaped outer casing.

They are commonly used for indoor security purposes and are generally placed on the ceilings or such high points for better coverage. The outer casing hides the inner camera lens so it is not easy to determine the direction that the camera is facing. They use a vari-focal lens in order to fine-tune focal distance and the angle of view. They support zoom in and out feature without losing focus.

Day/Night Cameras are perfect for areas that need surveillance 24X7. They are designed to work in both broad daylight and low light or night light conditions. They can take both black and white and colored images. Their enhanced performance is due to an extra sensitive imagining chip which is used in the dark which negates the need of illuminators. They are mostly used outdoors and can perform under direct sunlight, low light, glare or reflections.

Pan Tilt Zoom Cameras or PTZ cameras can do as suggested by their name i.e. pan, zoom, and tilt. It gives great freedom to the controllers and let them capture views from multiple angles. They can be operated manually or programmed for an accurate view. They are a bit expensive than the abovementioned cameras. The company has more than 1,000 happy and satisfied clientele spread across the Middle East. Based out of Abu Dhabi, with branches across the GCC, the vision of the company is to provide complete digital security and protection to all.

In order to achieve our goal of security for all, the company has kick-started a unique global campaign called ‘Secure Our City’. As part of this campaign, the company will install CCTV for free in more than 10,000 buildings in each major city across the globe.

The estimated cost of the ‘Secure Our City’ campaign is US$1.5 billion. The uniqueness of the project is the stakeholder participation – cities will be chosen on the |December 2018|

2. What are the key attributes that helped to overcome the challenges which were faced by the company during its establishment?

Like most the companies, we too had some teething issues. However, it was the passion and enthusiasm of the team, especially the core technical staff and management personnel, that helped us overcome the initial challenges.

3. What are the different products and services provided by the company, that is setting you apart from your competitors?

Secure Cam provides high-resolution analog/ digital/ IP-based cameras, digital & network-based storage systems (DVRs & NVRs) and remote video surveillance using smartphones and tablets, combining security surveillance with IT solutions.

The company’s USP has been that we not only set up the ubiquitous CCTV cameras but also provide end-toend solutions related to the service – ranging from application development, network cabling, hardware supplies, web designing & development, information management, infrastructure, business services, and project management – through rigorous annual maintenance contracts (AMC).

I hold a Masters in Economics & Networking (IT). I started off my career at Geant Hypermarket in the sales division, then worked as a sales executive with First Gulf Bank, followed by a stint at Citibank as Senior Relationship Officer before rounding it all off as the team leader and business development manager from 2012 to 2014 at Finance House.

However, the need to strike out on my own drove me in 2014 to co-founding this company. At Secure Cam, we are driven by a genuine desire to protect people's lives and assets.

With the increasing security concerns, the residential sector is gaining increasing market share.

8. What kind of future advancements you expect in the surveillance industry and how well equipped are 28

Artificial intelligence has already penetrated the surveillance industry. Cameras that are capable of motion and metal detection can analyze and send alerts to people without human intervention. Ongoing research will make these systems more advanced in the future and capable of detecting all five senses like how we humans do. Through our ‘Secure Our City’ campaign, we want to create awareness among people about enhancing safety levels.

9. What are your advices for the budding entrepreneurs who are trying to embark in the same field?

Hard and smart work always pays off. Just believe in your dreams.

One of the biggest achievements of the company is the ‘Secure Our City’ campaign. Everyone has the right to safety and ‘Secure Our City’ aims to fulfill our dream of a safe, secure and protected world for everyone.

ndia has a huge market for Surveillance products including CCTV Cameras, IP/Network Cameras and its accessories like NVR, DVR, Surveillance Hard Disk, Coaxial Cables, Optical fibers, Media converters, CAT6 Cables etc. The consolidated CCTV Surveillance business in India is expected to reach Rs. 40 Billion by 2020.

Not so long ago the only government had access to such technologies as surveillance systems and major applications included city surveillance and traffic management. Further, some corporates started using CCTV surveillance as a tool to increase productivity. In recent times the Video surveillance market is more affordable and solution-oriented hence a lot of new market segments have come up.
