he word technology always sounds reassuring to me. And why wouldn’t it? We have utilized it in every aspect of our existence. From printing footsteps on Moon to boiling water at our homes, we rely on the same. It helps us to move from place to place, keeps us warm, provides safety from critical diseases and even protects us from ourselves. As fascinating as it may sound, we cannot avoid the fact that we have become dependent on technology.

Therefore it is time we talk about the potential it has to resolve the major issues we face or are going to face in the future.

One of these major issues is lack of space. It may sound cliché but the issues regarding the same have become more evident and their concern is only going to rise in future. How? Let’s retrieve some logic from the fact that world population is growing at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, Thanos is merely a piece of fiction and there is no way we are getting rid of half of the human race. Hence eventually, we are going to run out of inhabitable space.

The remaining issues such as health and sanitation, cleanliness and lack of resources are also raising concerns. Higher efficiency combustion and decreased friction, which help vehicles perform effectively has become attainable with the help of nanotechnology.

However, sustainability through Nanoscience is not just limited to efficient energy. The materials we use on daily basis have also been upgraded with the help of Nano coating as it provides better quality and durability to the materials. Manufacturing industries have also been benefited by Nanoscience. Automobile space, in specific has leveraged the technology to make vehicles lightweight and strong, which also helps in fuel saving.

I personally believe it is still a long road for Nanotechnology. Its relevance with the world of technology goes down to molecular levels and this gives it the potential to start from the roots. And so it is expected that much like every other technology, It will contribute to make this world a better place.

Quick Decision Making From the beginning, Forge Nano has had to be very resourceful and fast moving. Early on, the company was given two weeks’ notice that their core patents were going to be abandoned by the University of Colorado, who owned them at the time, due to cost.

The founders, two poor graduate students, had to move quickly to negotiate assignment of those patents to the company and come up with $10k to pay lawyers and legal fees to keep the patents moving through the system.

The Question of Scalability According to Forge Nano, the two biggest challenges in driving adoption of ALD nano-coatings were around scalability and cost. ALD technology had been around for more than 50 years but, other than the semiconductor space, it was largely relegated to small-scale laboratory research.

This was in part due to the use of “temporal” ALD using a fluidized bed reactor in which the powders stay in one place and the coating materials are iteratively pulsed and purged into and from the reactor.

This approach lacked the throughput and scalability to go to larger volumes. Forge Nano instituted a paradigm shift to “spatial” ALD in which the powder was now moved through the system stage by stage with a much higher throughput. This spatial approach along with process innovation for maintaining homogeneity in the reactor enabled scale up to tonnage. Similarly Forge Nano’s process equipment does not require the same high degree of vacuum and subsequently costs often associated with ALD. The high throughput system design is highly capital efficient on a $ per unit of material upgraded. These two biggest challenges of scaling up the design and lowering the cost have been addressed. The company is now focused on demonstrating the efficacy of ALD in a growing number of markets.

lectrovaya was established in 1996 as a research and development company focused on Lithium ion technologies and manufacturing processes. Industry Outlook Forklift truck sales in North America’s market continued their unprecedented increase. The year 2017 marked the third consecutive year of growth with more than 250,000 units sold, representing a 9.5% and 12.2% increase compared to 2016 and 2015, respectively.

In addition, thousands to millions of electric powered trucks are sold annually in the U.S. and worldwide. The continuous increase in the number of battery-operated trucks from the previous years’ shows the potential use and lead of Electrovaya’s lithium-ion batteries in the trucking industry.

Additionally, today the pharmaceutical industry is in a position to make a statement to the larger public to seal its place as the ideal provider of healthcare in the long run. Without the infusion of such investments, real innovation would be difďŹ cult as real innovation requires companies to operate in the area of absolute uncertainty, which can be a nightmare from the point of view of shareholders.

Untapped Innovative Opportunities In the pharmaceutical sector, the natural economic forces have not yet found solution to deadly diseases like HIV, multiple forms of cancers, and several others. The primary reason for true lifesaving innovation being expensive is that true innovation operates in the territory of absolute uncertainty and hence one cannot set a timeline in principle in order to achieve desired results. Furthermore, this is also the primary reason why deadly diseases which promise lucrative revenues may never see real investment by individuals who are governed by self-interest.
