From its establishment alongside astronomy to the newspaper columns giving weekly forecasts, astrology has come a long way. The evolution of astrology has been slow and still has gained global popularity. The advances in science and technology have not discouraged the astrologers or the people who go to them. The fact that there is absolutely no scientific evidence to support the accuracy has not dissuaded people from studying or believing them.

There has been a great improvement in astrology since the 60s. People can approach astrologers from around the globe and are able to research the branch of astrology they desire to study. Though the beginning of astrology started from studying Omens and Astronomy, it has by far progressed since then. It is gaining benefits from information and technological advancements and is on an upsurge like never before. This has proven to be counter intuitive as one would think that technology would disintegrate peoples’ belief in distant stars governing their lives.

All through the past, astrology has been regarded either with contempt or with much belief that it has helped shape historical happenings. Let’s look at how the blend of Culture and History has taken place over various regions.

Mesopotamia Region When the Mesopotamian people started studying the skies and mapping the stars and the planets, they not only established astrology but also astronomy. The knowledge of omens and eclipses resulted in scientific findings and measurements. At this point in time, the science of astronomy and astrology were unified. The Mesopotamians also started issuing calendars and almanacs. This knowledge spread across the nearby regions and took on individual flavours.

Egyptian Region Babylonian astrology merged with the local practices of the people of Egypt under Hellenistic rulership. Roman Region The Greeks advocated the job of spreading knowledge of astrology throughout Rome. Hence, astrology played a very crucial role in the political milieu of Rome. It is believed that astrology helped shape the destiny of the Roman empire. But the Romans saw themselves are very philosophical. They banned astrological knowledge from reaching the masses. Flourishing Interest in Astrology Podhuvudaimoorthy's maternal family were astrologers for four generations. He had fifteen astrologers in his family.

Podhuvudaimoorthy got an affiliation to commence The Alp Astrology Research Institute from The AICETR. He is planning to provide courses from diploma to PhD in astrology for aspiring students. The eligibility to join the diploma course will be a 10th-grade pass certificate.

Currently, he is starting a six-month diploma and one-year diploma courses both in online and offline mode. The offline classes will be held in Chennai.

Envisaging Future Podhuvudaimoorthy's future vision is to make at least one ALP astrologer in every household.

"The youth of our country should benefit from this new method of ALP astrology and live an informed and prosperous life. If the younger generation learns about the secret of their birth and the purpose of their life, which can be achieved by this astrological knowledge, they wouldn't lean towards unwanted habits," says Podhuvudaimoorthy.

"They can choose the right path with confidence and reach their destination. It is observed that the younger generation across the world is going through a lot of psychological issues for distinct reasons."

Unveiling Uniqueness To make the predictions user-friendly, Podhuvudaimoorthy has developed an ALP mobile software application. The ALP astrology software is a very efficient application. It can be downloaded from the Google Play store by typing "Alp Astrology" for free. Any other astrology application available in the online market has only one date column to enter the birth date to create the horoscope.

This ALP software has been developed for fifteen different purposes namely, four modules: for share market analysis, another for analysing past life regression, to check the past Poorva Punya or past life, and other similar purposes.

Out of the fifteen, two options are available for public usage on a one-time subscription basis while the rest are only kept for personal research purposes.

The user can choose any one of these mentioned timelines for his prediction. It is a great breakthrough and a milestone in the world of astrology. Out of the 18 ALP book series, four books are already available in the market. The rest of the fourteen books will be released in the future.

Mayan and Julian Calendars The Mayan calendar has 365 days. Further, they were divided into 18 months consisting of 20 days each.

Additionally, the last five days in every month were considered as the unlucky days.

According to Caesars’s time, the Julian calendar was the origin of the Roman calendar that takes us closer to the solar year. The Lunar months had extra months to adjust.

The Julian calendar is three months beyond in relation to the occurrence of seasons.

The Jewish Calendar The Jewish calendar is the one that combines both Solar as well as Lunar cycles and was developed following the Babylonian astrological system. This calendar consists of 29 and 30 days and, alternate months had an extra day. This was very significant to maintain the balance with the solar year.

My journey from a management professional to an astrologer started 20 years ago after meeting my Guru. He

After working for 14 years in the corporate world, I resigned from my corporate career and came into astrology fully. This was the starting of my journey into the world of astrology.

Apart from these certificates, I am specialised in stellar astrology and panchapakshi sastra.

What has been your experience while studying astrology?

Astrology has been my passion and obsession since my childhood days.

astrology, some of the eminent astrologers guided me through the practical application of theory and the analysis of the horoscopes.

What challenges did you face in the initial days of your practice?

The biggest challenge is to make my clients understand the concept of astrology and its uses. Some people consulted me and asked irrelevant questions intending to evaluate my knowledge. They were under the impression that if I answered their irrelevant questions to their satisfaction, they could certify me as a good astrologer and seek my advice about their future.

However, they fail to understand that this testing process will fail. It will not serve their main purpose of getting their future predictions accurately. It will deviate from the main readings. It took some days for them to realise the value of my predictions and horoscope readings.

An astrologer can predict the future and provide guidance to make appropriate decisions and actions every time. After knowing its true value, many professionals and business owners are contacting me for my astrological guidance. It saves their time and money in planning their future.

What is the future of astrology according to you?

The future of astrology is bright, and it will grow with innovative technology.

Astrologers can provide their services to customers located in any part of the world through online and emails. The world became small with the use of modern technology in astrology. It made the worldwide people connect easily with their favourite astrologers located in any part of the world.

How are you shattering the myths associated with astrology?

There are many myths in society about astrology. Some people consider astrology a myth. In fact, astrology is a sastra and divine science. For the removal of the myths associated with astrology, I use my website as a medium to address this issue. I am drafting many articles on my blog as well as answering emails for any queries. The younger generation is good at asking logical questions and getting their doubts cleared.

On this topic, I have an interesting incident to share. I had a conversation with a young engineer. His question was, 'when the Sun is a star, why do we call it a planet'? My answer to him was, we refer to Sun (Surya) as Graha in 'Jyotish sastra' and not a planet. The word 'Planet' is an English word, and it may not convey the right meaning for graha.

However, Westerners use the word 'planet' as a substitute for the word 'graha'. The real meaning of Graha is a celestial body, be it a satellite, star, or field of energy in motion within the zodiac, which shows its influence on living beings. So, Sun (Surya) is considered graha, and it is called a planet in English. Likewise, I have many experiences in clearing the myths associated with astrology.

What will you advise the young generation who are interested in astrology?

I would suggest the young generation be disciplined, dedicated, and devoted to astrology. They should follow the disciplined way of life as they are dealing with Navagrahas. They should take guidance from an efficient Guru in their studies and research work. It is better to work under a renowned

What is your opinion on 'Are people more inclined towards astrology today than before?'

People are always inclined to astrology. In recent times, the inclination towards astrology has grown abundantly. In the olden days, astrologers used to provide their services in their respective localities only. Local people consult them without any choice. If they wanted to get a second opinion, they had to travel to another town and get the opinion of other astrologers.

With the advent of technology, people can connect online with astrologers in different localities from the comforts of their homes. Astrologers are providing their services online to various people worldwide.

Online technology has given options to people to select their astrologer according to their needs. Many astrology schools have come into existence and are providing good courses. Certified astrologers from reputed schools are providing their best services. This has created more inclination towards astrology.

In the past, astrology was used to know about future predictions and to know the good muhurta for auspicious celebrations like marriage, naming a newborn, cradle function, housewarming ceremonies, etc. Mostly, it was used for all traditional activities.
