VACCINATION UPDATE As of Friday 28th May 2021, more than 600,000 vaccines (combination of 1st and 2nd doses) have been given across the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area.

An update on the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Facebook page reads: “We are so proud of our vaccination teams at our GP Practices, Mobile Teams and Mass Vaccination Centres, as well as those working behind the scenes, who are all working extremely hard to administer vaccines as safely and as quickly as possible across our Health Board area. “We would like to thank the public for their continued patience, understanding and continued support as we work through our priority lists for first and second doses. “Please note, due to the Bank Holiday our next Vaccination Newsletter will be published on Tuesday. Please be on time. Please refrain from turning up more than 5 minutes early for your vaccine appointment. Whilst we appreciate you being punctual for your appointment, turning up too early can cause traffic congestion and queues at our vaccination centres.

SPRING CLEAN CYMRU IS BACK People in Torfaen and across Wales are being encouraged to ‘be part of the pick’ and join Spring Clean Cymru 2021. Torfaen County Borough Council is working with Keep Wales Tidy to support Spring Clean Cymru. Together they are calling on individuals, households, schools and formal community groups to clean-up the streets, parks or beaches on their doorstep between 28 May and 13 June. More than 200 clean-ups across Wales have already been registered for Spring Clean Cymru, which is part of Caru Cymru (a Welsh phrase meaning ‘Love Wales’) – the biggest ever initiative to eradicate litter and waste. Caru Cymru has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government. Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive Lesley Jones said: “In the past twelve months our outdoor spaces have mattered to us more than ever before. “They have been a sanctuary during challenging times, and from 28 May – 13 June 2021, we will be calling on our community of litter heroes to join us and show some love for those special places that helped us though lockdown.”

Councillor Mandy Owen, Executive member for the environment, said: “Every year we’ve run Spring Clean events volunteers have told us they feel a great sense of achievement after. “Even though events are going to be run a bit differently this year due to Covid, we are so pleased they are still going ahead. Spring Clean Cymru is also part of this year’s Great British Spring Clean. For the first time, volunteers are being asked to pledge how many minutes they will spend cleaning up their local area. This will be converted into miles and added to a UK total. The aim is to collectively walk a million miles. This year all participants must register for a ticket to take part in a litter pick, and if you don’t have a ticket on the day you will not be allowed to take part in the event. Tickets will be limited to 15 per event, including the Keep Wales Tidy event co-ordinator. In registering for a ticket for a Spring Clean Cymru event, you are agreeing to follow Keep Wales Tidy’s health and safety guidelines; to follow Welsh Government 2m social distance guidelines and conform to Keep Wales Tidy’s hygiene requirements. If you have any questions please get in touch with Tom Board at Thomas.board@keepwalestidy.cymru or on 07824504818 To pledge your time and get involved in Spring Clean Cymru, visit the Keep Wales Tidy website www.keepwalestidy.cymru.
