Las prisas

“Hoy no tengo tiempo para almorzar, ¡tráigame directamente la cuenta!”. Esta cita es de Groucho Marx, pero todos hemos tenido esta sensación de urgencia alguna vez.

Hoy en día queremos llenar tanto nuestra agenda y devorar tanta información, que nos cuesta muchísimo concentrarnos en una sola actividad, y lo más importante: disfrutarla verdaderamente.

Aquellos que ya han cumplido ciertos años recordarán lo que costaba adquirir un conocimiento: dedicar un tiempo largo a la escucha o a la lectura, necesitando en ocasiones invertir un tiempo adicional en ir a buscar el origen, ya fuera una biblioteca o acudir a una charla. Esa “dificultad” hacía que prestáramos mucha más atención a lo que estábamos haciendo y nos conectaba con ello, dejándonos una mayor huella.

Y ahí es dónde quiero llegar: a la conexión con el momento. La prisa nos impide enfocarnos, calmarnos y disfrutar de lo que pasa a nuestro alrededor en el preciso momento en que sucede.

El juego del golf es un buen ejemplo de ello. Nadie juega bien si lo hace desenfocado o acelerado. Muchos de ustedes contemplaron la tremenda concentración de Yannik Paul en el momento de embocar el último putt que le dio la victoria en el Mallorca Golf Open, celebrado en Son Muntaner.

Tanto en el deporte como en cualquier aspecto de la vida, la velocidad resta profundidad y calado. Otorgar el tiempo y atención adecuados quizá nos impida realizar algunas actividades. Pero seguro que nos permite ejecutar mucho mejor las que hacemos, y sobre todo, sentirlas y disfrutarlas como es debido.

“I don’t have time for lunch today. Bring me the bill directly!”. This is a Groucho Marx quote, but we have all had that sense of urgency at some point.

Nowadays, we want to fill up our schedule to such an extent, and devour so much information, that we find it extremely hard to concentrate on a single activity, and - more importantly - to truly enjoy it.

Anyone who has reached a certain age will remember how hard it used to be to acquire knowledge of something: you would spend a long time to listening or reading, at times you needed to invest additional time in seeking out the source, either by visiting a library or attending a talk. That “difficulty” meant that we paid a great deal of attention to what we were doing, and it connected us to it, making a bigger impression on us.

And that is what I am getting at: the connection with the moment. Rushing prevents us from focusing, calming down and enjoying what is going on around us at the precise moment when it is happening.

The game of golf is a good example of this. Nobody plays well if they are not focused, or they are wound up. Many of you witnessed the tremendous concentration of Yannik Paul when he holed the last putt that handed him victory in the Mallorca Golf Open at Son Muntaner.

Both in sport and in any aspect of life, speed diminishes depth and foundation. Devoting the appropriate time and attention may prevent us from carrying out some activities. But it is certain to allow us to perform those we do much better, and above all, it will allow us to feel and enjoy them as we should.

„Heute habe ich keine Zeit zum Frühstücken, ich möchte sofort zahlen.“ Die Eile, die Groucho Marx mit diesen Worten suggeriert, kennt jeder aus eigener Erfahrung.

Ein möglichst voller Terminkalender und das Bedürfnis, permanent über alles informiert zu sein, lassen wenig Zeit für die Konzentration auf nur eine Tätigkeit und – noch viel wichtiger – die Freude daran.

Menschen in einem bestimmten Alter erinnern sich vielleicht noch daran, wie schwierig der Wissenserwerb früher einmal war: Man musste lange zuhören oder sehr aufmerksam lesen und manchmal sogar extra Zeit in die Suche nach einer Wissensquelle investieren, sei es, um eine Bibliothek aufzusuchen oder einem Vortrag beizuwohnen. Andererseits war das Erlebnis dadurch intensiver – man befasste sich voll und ganz mit einer Tätigkeit und hatte entsprechend mehr davon.

Genau darauf möchte ich hinaus: auf die Verbindung mit dem Moment. Hektik hindert uns daran, uns zu konzentrieren, zur Ruhe zu kommen und das Geschehen um uns herum genau in dem Moment zu genießen, in dem es stattfindet.

Golf ist dafür ein perfektes Beispiel: Ein unkonzentrierter oder gehetzter Golfer spielt nicht gut. Vielen von Ihnen ist Yannik Pauls sagenhafte Konzentration aufgefallen, als er den letzten Putt bei den Mallorca Golf Open in Son Muntaner einlochte – und siegte.

Im Sport, wie in jedem anderen Lebensbereich auch, lässt Hektik keine Zeit für Gründlichkeit und Intensität. Wenn man einer Beschäftigung genügend Zeit und Aufmerksamkeit widmet, muss man vielleicht auf eine andere verzichten. Was uns jedoch erlaubt, die anfängliche Beschäftigung gewiss viel besser auszuführen, und vor allem: Man kann in ihr aufgehen und sich daran erfreuen.

Este 2022 ha sido un año para recordar en Arabella Golf Mallorca por varios motivos.

Me gustaría destacar la vuelta a la normalidad en todo lo que se refiere a la operativa del Golf, recuperando un nivel operativo similar a la época anterior a la pandemia, y manteniendo el nivel de inversiones y mejoras en nuestras instalaciones.

A finales de julio Golf Son Quint recibió unos visitantes de prestigio. El mismísimo Tiger Woods y su hijo disfrutaron de una ronda en nuestro campo, aprovechando sus vacaciones en Mallorca. Fue una sorpresa, pero a la vez todo un orgullo para nosotros que eligieran uno de los campos de Arabella Golf Mallorca para jugar una partida.

También, como bien saben, en el pasado mes de octubre Golf Son Muntaner albergó por primera vez un torneo del DP World Tour, el Mallorca Golf Open. Fue un evento que se confirmó a finales de julio, por lo que tan sólo tuvimos algo más de dos meses para su organización. Aun así, estamos muy satisfechos con la experiencia y el trabajo realizado por todo el equipo humano de Arabella Golf Mallorca.

2023 no parece que vaya a ser menos, ya que tendremos muchas novedades.

Entre ellas, me gustaría destacar el nuevo sistema doble de salidas en Golf Son Muntaner, o la nueva flota de buggies eléctricos en Golf Son Quint.

Para nosotros, es un placer poder formar parte de sus buenos recuerdos.

Dear Golfer,

The year 2022 has been one to remember at Arabella Golf Mallorca, for several reasons.

I would like to call attention to the return to normality in everything pertaining to the golf club’s operations, recovering an operational level similar to

the pre-pandemic period, and maintaining the level of investment and improvement of our installations.

At the end of July, Golf Son Quint welcomed some prestigious visitors. Tiger Woods himself, and his son, enjoyed a round on our course, taking advantage of their holiday on Mallorca. It was a surprise but absolutely a source of pride for us that they should choose one of Arabella Golf Mallorca’s courses to play a round on.

In addition, as you well know, last October Golf Son Muntaner was for the first time the venue for a DP World Tour tournament, the Mallorca Golf Open. The event was confirmed in late July, and so we only had a little over two months to organise it. For all that, we are extremely satisfied with the experience and the work done by the entire team at Arabella Golf Mallorca.

It seems that the year 2023 will be equally exceptional, as we have numerous novelties coming up.

Of them, I would like to highlight the new double teeing system at Golf Son Muntaner, and the new fleet of electric buggies at Golf Son Quint.

It is a pleasure for us to form part of your good memories.

Liebe Golfspielerinnen und Golfspieler, 2022 war für Arabella Golf Mallorca in mehrfacher Hinsicht ein ganz besonderes Jahr.

Am wichtigsten war die vollständige Rückkehr zur Normalität, wobei die Wiederaufnahme und Fortführung des Golfbetriebs – fast wie vor der Pandemie – ebenso zu nennen wären wie die fortlaufenden Investitionen in die Aufwertung unserer Einrichtungen.

Ende Juli durfte Golf Son Quint prominente Besucher willkommen heißen: Der legendäre Tiger Woods und sein Sohn verbanden ihren Urlaub auf Mallorca mit einer Partie Golf auf unserem Platz. Wir waren überrascht, jedoch natürlich auch hocherfreut über ihre Entscheidung zugunsten eines der Plätze von Arabella Golf Mallorca.

Wie Sie wissen, hat Golf Son Muntaner letzten Oktober zum ersten Mal ein Turnier der DP World Tour ausgerichtet: die Mallorca Golf Open. Die Bestätigung erhielten wir Ende Juli, womit uns nur knapp zwei Monate Zeit für die Organisation blieben. Trotzdem freuen wir uns über diese Erfahrung und sind hochzufrieden mit der Arbeit des gesamten Teams von Arabella Golf Mallorca.

Im Jahr 2023 wird es nicht ruhiger werden, denn es kommen einige Neuerungen auf uns zu, von denen vor allem das neue Doppel-Tee-System auf Golf Son Muntaner und die neuen Elektrobuggys auf Golf Son Quint zu nennen wären.

Es ist uns eine Freude, dass wir ein Teil Ihrer schönen Erinnerungen sein dürfen.

Tardará tiempo en olvidarse la fiesta del golf vivida en Golf Son Muntaner entre los días 20 y 23 de octubre, durante la celebración del Mallorca Golf Open. Las más de 12.000 personas que visitaron a lo largo de la semana sus instalaciones pudieron disfrutar de un evento de primera categoría y lleno de emoción. Francisco Vila, CEO del grupo Arabella, resaltó nada más acabar el torneo “el gran trabajo realizado por todas las partes involucradas en la organización”, con un agradecimiento especial “a todo el personal de Arabella Golf Mallorca por el trabajo invisible que ha sido visible durante esta semana”.

EMOCIÓN POR TODO LO ALTO. Con un final de infarto en el que dependía de sí mismo para coronarse campeón, la presión de Paul Waring (-14) y Nicolai Von Dellinghausen (-14) obligaron a Yannik Paul a embocar un putt de cuatro metros y medio que recordará toda su vida. Con unos últimos hoyos acumulando errores, los favoritos no hicieron más que aumentar la presión, la tensión y la incerteza del marcador final, pues la diferencia entre los nueve primeros fue de tan solo tres golpes. Pero Paul lo tuvo en su mano. Y lo hizo. Después de algunos errores, los campeones de verdad demuestran su valía en los momentos cruciales como este, con la que consigue su primera victoria como profesional en el DP World Tour.

Der CEO der Arabella-Gruppe, Francisco Vila, lobte nach dem Turnier „die fantastische Leistung des Organisationsteams“ und dankte ganz besonders „allen Mitarbeitenden von Arabella Golf Mallorca für ihre hervorragende Arbeit hinter den Kulissen, deren Ergebnis für alle Anwesenden deutlich sichtbar war.“

SPANNUNG PUR. In dem nervenaufreibenden Finale wurde Yannik Paul von Paul Waring (-14) und Nicolai Von Dellinghausen (-14) zu einem Viereinhalb-Meter-Putt gezwungen, den er nie mehr vergessen wird. Der Titel war zum Greifen nah, jetzt musste er alles geben. An den letzten Löchern patzte er häufiger, was beide Favoriten nutzten, um den Druck und damit die Spannung zu erhöhen, denn der Ausgang wurde durch den Abstand von nur drei Schlägen nach den ersten neun Löchern immer ungewisser. Aber Paul blieb souverän – und holte den Titel. Echte Champions bewähren sich nach Fehlern in entscheidenden Momenten wie diesem, und Paul trug seinen ersten Sieg als Profi auf der DP World Tour davon.

¿Qué significa para usted haber ganado el Mallorca Golf Open en Son Muntaner? Lo recordaré toda mi vida porque también es mi primera victoria en el circuito. Meter un putt en el último hoyo fue un sueño hecho realidad. Siempre entrenas soñando con ese putt que te haga ganar un torneo, y en Son Muntaner lo he conseguido. No podría haber tenido un final mejor.

¿Cómo recuerda aquella última jornada, los últimos hoyos? Los últimos nueve hoyos fueron difíciles, pero eso es normal. Trabajo mucho el aspecto mental junto a mi pareja y, aunque estuviera a dos golpes de mi rival, me concentré en mi respiración, en vivir el momento y todo se alineó.

¿Volverá a Golf Son Muntaner? Sí, he disfrutado muchísimo y claro que volveré, es un lugar que ya forma parte de mí. Además, el campo y la localización son fantásticos. Amo Mallorca, tengo muchos amigos aquí y sé que regresaré pronto.

What does winning the Mallorca Golf Open at Son Muntaner mean to you? I will remember it my entire life, because it is also my first win on the circuit. Sinking a putt in the last hole was a dream come true. When you’re training, you always dream of that putt that will win you a tournament, and at Son Muntaner I managed to do it. The ending couldn’t have been better.

What are your memories of that last day, those final holes? The last nine holes were difficult, but that’s normal. I do a lot of work on the mental side with my partner, and even though I was two strokes away from my rival, I concentrat-

Was bedeutet Ihnen Ihr Sieg bei den Mallorca Golf Open in Son Muntaner? Daran werde ich mein Leben lang zurückdenken, denn es ist auch mein erster Sieg auf diesem Platz. Am letzten Loch mit einem Putt zu siegen, ist ein wahr gewordener Traum. Während des gesamten Trainings denkt man an den Putt, mit dem man ein Turnier gewinnt, und in Son Muntaner habe ich genau das geschafft. Es hätte nicht besser laufen können.

Wie haben Sie den letzten Tag und die letzten Löcher in Erinnerung? Die letzten neun Löcher waren schwierig, aber das ist ganz normal. Zusammen mit meiner Freundin arbeite ich intensiv im mentalen Bereich. Obwohl ich zwei Schläge hinter dem Führenden zurücklag, konzentrierte ich mich auf meine Atmung, auf den Moment, und plötzlich lief alles ganz wie von selbst.

Werden Sie Golf Son Muntaner wieder besuchen? Ja, es hat mir hier sehr gut gefallen, und ich werde gerne wiederkommen, denn Son Muntaner ist schon jetzt ein Teil meines Lebens. Außerdem sind der Platz und seine Lage fantastisch. Ich liebe Mallorca, habe hier viele Freunde und weiß, dass ich bald wiederkommen werde.

Kurt Rossknecht (Lindau, 1954) diseñó Golf Son Muntaner en el año 2000. Para él ha sido una gran experiencia vivir en directo el Mallorca Golf Open, 22 años después.

¿Cómo vivió las jornadas del Mallorca Golf Open? Creo que todos disfrutamos mucho porque el clima ha sido perfecto, salvo en el último día en que sopló un poco de viento. Los jugadores pudieron sentirse a gusto y por eso el juego ha sido lucido en casi todas las partidas. También creo que ha sido una gran oportunidad para Son Muntaner, contar con un torneo de este prestigio, con jugadores profesionales, ha elevado el nivel del campo y de todas las instalaciones.

¿Qué distingue a Golf Son Muntaner respecto a otros campos? El ambiente y la localización. La naturaleza aquí es exuberante y las infraestructuras son únicas. Contar con dos hoteles de tanta categoría en el propio resort, así como estar a dos pasos del mar y la montaña, hace que Golf Son Muntaner sea un lugar realmente especial.

¿En qué se inspiró para diseñar el campo hace 22 años? Para Golf Son Muntaner mi inspiración fue la naturaleza que lo rodea. A partir de este punto solucionamos el resto de cuestiones.

Where did you draw inspiration from when you designed the course 22 years ago? For Golf Son Muntaner, my inspiration was the nature that surrounds it. Starting out from this basis, we resolved all the other issues.

Kurt Rossknecht (Lindau, 1954) designed Golf Son Muntaner in the year 2000. For him, it was a wonderful experience to see the Mallorca Golf Open live, 22 years later.

What was your experience of the Mallorca Golf Open? I think we all had a great time because the weather was perfect, except on the last day when there was a bit of a wind blowing. The players were able to feel at ease and because of that play was clear-headed in nearly all the rounds. I also think it was a great opportunity for Son Muntaner; being the venue for such a prestigious tournament, with professional players, has elevated the level of the course and all the installations.

What distinguishes Golf Son Muntaner from other courses? The atmosphere and the location. Nature is exuberant here, and the infra-

Außerdem glaube ich, dass die Veranstaltung eines so prestigeträchtigen Turniers mit Profispielern für Son Muntaner eine wunderbare Chance war, das Niveau des Platzes und seiner Einrichtungen zu steigern.

Worin unterscheidet sich Golf Son Muntaner von anderen Plätzen? In Bezug auf den Standort und die Umgebung. Golf Son Muntaner liegt inmitten üppiger Vegetation und verfügt über eine einzigartige Infrastruktur. Zwei Luxushotels auf der Anlage selbst sowie die unmittelbare Nähe zum Meer und zu den Bergen machen Golf Son Muntaner zu einem ganz besonderen Ort.

Woher nahmen Sie vor 22 Jahren die Inspiration für diesen Golfplatz? Im Fall von Golf Son Muntaner hat mich die Natur vor Ort inspiriert. Das war die Basis, die alles andere bestimmte.

El equipo de greenkeepers de Arabella Golf Mallorca ha logrado que el campo de Son Muntaner haya estado a la altura de un gran evento como el Mallorca Golf Open.

Cuéntenos por favor cómo afrontaron el reto de dejar listo el campo para el Mallorca Golf Open.

La verdad es que, cuando se decidió que este importante torneo se celebraría aquí en Son Muntaner, por nuestras mentes pasó el fantasma de preguntarnos ‘¿tendremos tiempo suficiente para presentar el campo como se merece?’ Pero junto al gran equipo humano de ingenieros, mecánicos segadores, encargados de búnkeres y jardineros hemos superado este reto con creces.

La hierba ha aguantado muy bien. ¿Qué variedad es?

En los greens tenemos Bentgrass, pero la variedad que predomina es la Bermuda grass Utilizamos esta variante porque es la que mejor se adapta al clima, soporta el uso de agua reciclada, tiene una gran resistencia a enfermedades y es más resistente a plagas, por lo que minimizamos el consumo de agua y el uso de fertilizantes y fitosanitarios.

¿Cuáles son las claves de tener bien cuidado un campo de golf?

Lo más importante es anticiparse a todos los factores que juegan en contra de tener una

planta sana y fuerte. Diariamente, para que el jugador se encuentre el campo en las mejores condiciones realizamos siegas, rastrillado de búnker, limpieza o chuletas. Además de otras tareas que son muy necesarias, como pinchados, escarificados, recebos o aplicar calcio.

¿A qué altura está cortado el césped y cada cuánto hay que cortarlo?

Modificamos las alturas dependiendo de la época del año y del estrés de la hierba. Por norma general, los greens suelen estar entre 2.5 y 3.5 milímetros, el fairway entre 8 y 12 milímetros, los antregreens entre 30 y 45 milímetros y el rough entre 35 y 48 milímetros. Para el Mallorca Golf Open, la altura del rough fue de 85 milímetros.

¿Cuántos años lleva vinculado al mantenimiento de campos de golf?

The team of greenkeepers at Arabella Golf Mallorca managed to ensure the Son Muntaner course was up to standard for a significant event: the Mallorca Golf Open.

Please tell us how you met the challenge of preparing the course for the Mallorca Golf open. The truth is that when the decision was made to hold this important tournament here at Son Muntaner, the fleeting phantom of a question passed through our minds – “Will we have enough time to present the course as it deserves?” But with the great human team of engineers, mower mechanics, bunker keepers and gardeners, we amply met the challenge.

The grass held up very well. What variety is it? On the greens we have Bentgrass, but the predominant variety is Bermuda grass. We use this variety because it’s the one that adapts best to the climate, it can stand being watered with recycled water, is very resistant to diseases and even more immune to pests, so we can minimise water consumption and use of fertilizers and pesticides.

What are the keys to keeping a golf course well-tended? The most important thing is to anticipate all the factors that work against having strong, healthy plants. On a daily basis we mow, rake bunkers, clean or fix divots so that players find the course in the best of conditions. As well as other tasks that are very necessary, like hollow tining, scarification, top dressing or applying calcium.

How tall is the grass, and how often does it have to be cut? We vary the height depending on the time of year and the stress level of the grass. Generally speaking the greens are usually somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 millimetres, the fairway is between 8 and 12 millimetres, the antegreens are from 30 to 45 millimetres high and the rough is between 35 and 48 millimetres tall. For the Mallorca Golf Open, the rough was 85 millimetres high.

How long have you been in golf course maintenance? I started out at the age of 14 as a caddie at Sotogrande, and in 1990 I was hired by Valderrama, where I experienced the transformation of an ordinary course into what is now one of the best courses in Europe. We prepared 5 Volvo Masters, 2 American Express Championships and the only Ryder Cup to be held in Spain. I came to Arabella in 2002.

Das Gras sieht immer noch sehr gesund aus. Welche Sorte wächst hier? Auf den Greens haben wir Bentgrass, mehrheitlich jedoch Bermuda-Gras, weil diese die für unser Klima am besten geeignete Sorte ist. Dieses Gras verträgt recyceltes Wasser, ist extrem resistent gegen Krankheiten und sehr widerstandsfähig gegen Schädlinge. So benötigen wir nur ein Minimum an Wasser, Dünger und Pflanzenschutzmitteln.

Was ist das Geheimnis eines gut gepflegten Golfplatzes? Am wichtigsten ist die Berücksichtigung aller Faktoren, die einer gesunden, kräftigen Pflanze schaden können. Ein für die Spieler optimaler Platz erfordert tägliches Mähen sowie Rechen, Säubern oder Auffüllen der Bunker. Hinzu kommen andere unverzichtbare Arbeiten wie Stechen, Vertikutieren, Nachdüngen oder das Ausbringen von Kalzium.

Auf welche Höhe wird der Rasen geschnitten und wie oft muss er gemäht werden? Das kommt auf die Jahreszeit und die Belastung an. In der Regel steht das Gras auf den Greens 2,5 bis 3,5 Millimeter hoch, auf den Fairways 8 bis 12 Millimeter, das Gras des Vorgrüns wird auf 30 bis 45 Millimeter geschnitten und das der Roughs hat eine Höhe von 35 bis 48 Millimetern. Die Roughhöhe bei den Mallorca Golf Open lag bei 85 Millimetern.

NUEVOS BLOQUES DE SALIDA. Para efectuar dichas mejoras, se amplian a tres los bloques de salida durante casi 8 meses al año: el primero de 09.00 a 11.00 horas, el segundo de 13.20 a 15.20 horas, y el tercero, disponible únicamente en horario de verano de 17.40 a 19.00 horas.

Además, se reduce el intervalo en las salidas de 12 a 10 minutos, se ha creado una zona de Bag Drop y se ha rediseñado el flujo de entrada y salida del club.

Destacar también que se ha ampliado el horario del restaurante, que abre a las 08.00 horas.

Al doble tee de salida se une la excelencia en el servicio, elevando la experiencia del golfista a un nuevo nivel de calidad.

For the first time on a course in Mallorca, Arabella Golf Mallorca is implementing double teeing.

Once again, Golf Son Muntaner positions itself as a reference not only on a local level, but also throughout Europe, for the enjoyment of a unique experience on its greens. With its double teeing project, Golf Son Muntaner offers simultaneous starts from hole 1 and hole 10. In this way, golfers who start at hole 10 complete their round at hole 9, and those who start at hole 1 finish at hole 18.

Double teeing gives golfers a better experience for three reasons: firstly, it allows for better control of the pace of play, because if a group lags behind it will not affect the course throughout the entire day. Secondly, it enables the club to maximise the number of tee times available so that golfers can play the 18 holes at the most popular times. And finally, there is less inconvenience due to course maintenance work by staff.

NEW TEE-TIME BLOCKS. To implement these improvements, it’s the number of tee-time blocks has been increased to three for nearly 8 months a year: the first one is from 9.00 am to 11.00 am, the second one from 1.20 pm to 3.20 pm, and the third one – available during the summer timetable – is from 5.40 pm to 7.00 pm.

Moreover, the interval of the start time is reduced from 12 to 10 minutes, a Bag Drop zone has been created, and the club’s entry and exit flow has been redesigned.

Zweitens erhöht sich so die Anzahl der verfügbaren Abschlagszeiten auf ein Maximum, so dass die Golfer auch während der Stoßzeiten alle 18 Löcher spielen können. Drittens und letztens kommt es zu weniger Interferenzen mit dem Personal, das den Platz pflegt.

NEUE ABSCHLAGSZEITEN. Diese Optimierungen bringen drei neue Abschlagszeiten an knapp 8 Monaten des Jahres mit sich: 09.00 bis 11.00 Uhr, 13.20 bis 15.20 Uhr und 17.40 bis 19.00 Uhr (nur im Sommer).

Damit verkürzen sich auch die Abschlagsintervalle von 12 auf 10 Minuten. Außerdem gibt es jetzt einen Aufbewahrungsbereich für Gepäckstücke, und der Ein- und Ausgangsbereich des Clubs wurde zur Regelung des Verkehrsflusses umgestaltet.

Arabella Golf Mallorca creates its first organic vegetable garden as part of the sustainable Green Evolution programme.

Tomatoes, carrots, peppers, sweet potatoes, squash, onions, aromatic herbs and fruit from small trees are harvested daily by the chefs of the three Arabella Golf Mallorca restaurants. The idea is to cultivate them without using chemicals or pesticides, and foster the contact with and respect for nature inherent in the development of sustainable, healthy lifestyle habits. All this is fundamental for reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to an organic diet.

¿Qué significa poder contar con un huerto ecológico a menos de 200 metros de los fogones? El hecho de tener un huerto “en casa” hace que puedas trabajar producto de temporada de calidad, local y ecológico. A nivel personal, es un lujo poder usar productos de huerto. El sabor de los productos es fantástico y también estoy aprendiendo mucho con los compañeros que lo cuidan.

¿Por qué es importante cocinar con productos de vuestro huerto? Cuando cocinas te dejas guiar por la temporada y usas las hortalizas y verduras de cada época del año. Nuestras sugerencias semanales dependen de la producción del huerto. Y así nosotros contribuimos a una alimentación más saludable, generamos conciencia de optimización de los recursos naturales y energéticos, ahorramos y convertimos un espacio sin uso en una zona más bonita, cuidada y ayudamos a reducir nuestra huella de carbono.

¿Cómo lo aprecia el comensal? Muchos clientes nos han dicho que el sabor

no tiene nada que ver con lo que están acostumbrados y que “se nota que esto es del huerto”.

¿Qué diferencia hay en el olor, el sabor, el color y la textura respecto a las grandes superficies? Las propiedades organolépticas son muy diferentes. El sabor, la textura y el color son especiales. Y también la duración de los productos es mucho mayor, llegando a durar tres veces más que los que compramos a través de nuestros distribuidores.

¿Qué cultiváis y qué aportan a cada plato? Este verano hemos cultivado verduras de temporada como tomates, pimientos, pepinos... en otoño plantamos cítricos y calabazas. En invierno, nabos, coles, lechugas y zanahorias. Además de hierbas aromáticas todo el año. En algunos platos se usa solo un toque de alguna de ellas como un gazpacho aromatizado con albahaca. Otros platos, como la crema de calabaza y salvia de nuestra carta, se elabora íntegramente con productos de nuestro huerto.

What does it mean to you to have an organic garden less than 200 metres away from the kitchen stoves? Having a vegetable garden “in house” means you can work with local, high-quality, organic seasonal produce. For me personally, being able to cook using produce from the garden is a luxury. The flavour of the produce is fantastic, and I’m also learning a lot from my colleagues who tend the garden.

Why is cooking with the produce from your garden so important? When you cook, you are guided by the seasons and you use the vegetables and greens of each season of the year. Our weekly recommendations depend on the production of the garden. And in this way, we contribute to a healthier diet, raise awareness of the optimisation of natural and energy resources, save and turn a space that had no use into a pretty, well-tended area, and help reduce our carbon footprint.

How do diners feel about it? Many customers have told us that the flavours have nothing to do with what they are accustomed to, and that “you can really tell this comes from the garden”.

What difference in aroma, flavour, colour and texture is there, compared to large supermarkets? The organoleptic properties are very different. The products have a special flavour, texture and colour. And they also last much longer – up to three times longer than the produce we buy through our distributors.

What do you grow, and what does it bring to each dish? This summer we grew seasonal vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers… in autumn, we planted citrus fruits and squash. In winter, turnips, cabbages, lettuce and carrots. As well as herbs all year round. In some dishes we use just a hint of some of them, such as gazpacho perfumed with basil. Other dishes, like the cream of squash soup and sage on our menu, are made entirely using the produce from our garden.

Ich persönlich empfinde es als Luxus, Produkte aus eigener Ernte zu verwenden. Erstens schmecken sie fantastisch, und zweitens lerne ich viel von meinen Kollegen, die den Gemüsegarten pflegen.

Warum ist es so wichtig, Gemüse aus eigener Ernte zu verarbeiten? Weil man mit dem der Jahreszeit entsprechenden Gemüse kocht. Unsere Wochenkarte reflektiert, was der Garten uns gerade gibt. So tragen wir zu einer gesünderen Ernährung bei, schaffen mehr Bewusstsein für eine optimalere Nutzung aller Ressourcen – inklusive Energie –, sparen Geld und verwandeln brachliegenden Boden in eine schönere und gepflegtere Umgebung. Gleichzeitig verringern wir auch noch unseren ökologischen Fußabdruck.

Was sagt der Gast dazu? Viele Gäste stellen fest, dass der Geschmack nicht vergleichbar ist mit dem, was üblicherweise serviert wird, und dass „man merkt, dass es aus eigenem Anbau stammt.“

Wie unterscheidet sich Ihr selbst angebautes Gemüse in Geruch, Geschmack, Farbe und Beschaffenheit von Großhandelsware?

Die organoleptischen Eigenschaften sind nicht vergleichbar. Unsere Gemüse sind viel farb- und geschmacksintensiver, auch die Konsistenz ist eine andere. Außerdem bleiben unsere eigenen Produkte bis zu dreimal länger frisch als das Gemüse vom Händler.

Was bauen Sie an, und wofür verwenden Sie das Gemüse? Diesen Sommer haben wir Saisongemüse wie Tomaten, Paprika, Gurken, etc. angebaut, im Herbst Zitrusfrüchte und Kürbisse. Im Winter setzen wir Rüben, Kohl, Kopfsalat und Möhren. Kräuter pflanzen wir das ganze Jahr über. Manche Gerichte versehen wir nur mit einem Hauch davon, wie z. B. unsere mit Basilikum gewürzte Gazpacho. Andere Speisen, z. B. unsere Kürbis-Salbei-Creme, sind eine 100-prozentige Komposition aus Produkten eigener Ernte.

La importancia de un buen fitting de palos

Tener un material inapropiado puede ser causa de un aprendizaje incorrecto y lento, y además puede provocar lesiones.

Tener palos demasiados largos puede provocar una mala postura en frente de la bola y esto a su vez provocar un plano de swing incorrecto. Un plano de swing incorrecto provoca un ángulo de ataque a la bola incorrecto y este a su vez provoca un impacto de bola irregular.

A la hora de hacer un fitting a un jugador, hay que tener en cuenta el tipo y diseño de cabeza que se necesita, el peso total y de cada uno de sus componentes, la longitud, el lie, las características de las varillas y el tamaño de grip necesario. Todo esto irá en base al estado físico de cada uno, a su anatomía, sus aptitudes a la hora de generar velocidad de swing, a su nivel, a su forma de juego en general y a su sensación con dicho palo.

En un fitting de putt, por ejemplo, el diseño de la cabeza, forma y dibujos, nos ayudan a apuntar mejor. El material de la cara del palo, donde golpeamos la bola, nos ayuda al control de la distancia y a tener mejor o peor sensación.
