La innovación, ¿una ciencia? Innovation – a

science? Innovation, eine Wissenschaft?

odos tendemos a relacionar la innovación con los avances tecnológicos: el uso de insólitos componentes, la nube, la mezcla de moléculas que ofrecen nuevos materiales realizando funciones otrora inimaginables... Etimológicamente innovar significa cambiar las cosas introduciendo novedades o mejoras. Pero me resisto a conceptuar la innovación como la mera introducción de algo nunca visto. Conocerán la historia de la gran inversión que realizó la NASA para desarrollar un bolígrafo cuya tinta siguiera fluyendo en situaciones de gravedad cero. Muchos años y dólares invertidos, hasta que un viejo ingeniero dio con la solución: ¿Y por qué no usamos un lápiz?... Usar las cosas viejas como si fueran nuevas (gran receta, por cierto, para que dure el amor), el volver a recuperar utensilios, procedimientos o comportamientos pretéritos, recuperar la ética del trabajo bien hecho y el orgullo que supone esforzarse para entusiasmar a un cliente, eso también es innovación. Llegar a la casa club y que el caddy master te alegre la mañana saludándote afectuosamente, que la recepcionista te atienda sonriendo abiertamente mientras localiza la reserva, que nuestro jardinero se sienta orgulloso de su trabajo, solo por estar bien hecho... eso también es innovar, por cuanto significa seguir respetando unos códigos olvidados por nuestra sociedad veloz y caníbal, enfocando nuestro mejor talante y profesionalidad hacia la satisfacción de nuestros visitantes. En el Gr upo Arabella también damos muchísima importancia a este tipo de innovación, por cuanto suponen empatía constante con los usuarios de nuestros servicios. Y siempre en equipo. “Si quieres llegar rápido, camina solo; si quieres llegar lejos, camina en grupo”, reza un viejo dicho. Lo que nos distingue es el trabajo conjunto para hacer sentir especiales y únicos a nuestros clientes, y esforzarnos para darles buenas experiencias para recordar. Sigamos mejorando, todos y juntos. ¡No dejemos de innovar de todos los modos posibles!

e all tend to relate innovation to technological advances: the use of unusual components, the cloud, the mixing of molecules that offer up new materials, fulfilling hitherto unimaginable functions... Etymologically speaking, to innovate means to change things by introducing novelties or improvements. But I am reluctant to conceive innovation as the mere introduction of something that has never been seen before. You will have heard the story of the big investment NASA made to develop a biro with ink that continues to flow in zero-gravity situations. Many years and dollars were invested, until an old engineer finally came up with the solution: Why don’t we use a pencil?... Using old things as though they were new (a great recipe, incidentally, for making love last), recovering past utensils, procedures or behaviours again, recovering the ethic of a job well done and the pride inherent in making an effort to produce enthusiasm in a customer – this, too, is innovation. When you arrive at the clubhouse and the caddy master brightens up your morning with an affectionate greeting, the receptionist serves you with a broad smile as she finds your booking, you see that our gardener is obviously proud of the job he does, simply because it is well done... this, too, is innovation, in as much as it signifies continuing to respect codes that have been forgotten by our swift, cannibalistic society, focussing our best disposition and personality towards the satisfaction of our visitors. At the Arabella Group, we also attach a great deal of importance to this type of innovation, as it makes for a constant empathy with the users of our services. And we always work as a team. ‘If you want to go fast, walk alone; if you want to go far, walk in a group’, goes an old saying. What distinguishes us is the work we do together to make our customers feel special and unique, and the effort we make to give them good experiences they can remember. We keep on improving, all of us together. We must never stop innovating in every way possible!

ir tendieren normalerweise dazu, Innovation mit technischem Fortschritt gleichzusetzen. Innovation bedeutet, Dinge durch neue Elemente zu verändern oder zu verbessern. Ich wehre mich jedoch dagegen, Innovation lediglich als bloße Einführung von Neuem, nie Dagewesenem zu interpretieren. Sicher kennen Sie die Geschichte, in der die NASA jahrelang sehr viel Geld in die Erfindung eines Kugelschreibers investierte, der auch in der Schwerelosigkeit schreiben sollte. Bis ein alter Ingenieur auf die Lösung kam: Warum verwenden wir nicht einfach einen Bleistift? Bewährte Dinge nutzen, als ob sie neu wären (ein gutes Rezept übrigens für die Liebe), alte Werkzeuge, Methoden und, warum nicht, auch früher übliches Benehmen aufpolieren. Die traditionelle Arbeitsethik wieder aufleben lassen, den Stolz, eine Arbeit gut gemacht zu haben, sich um die Zufriedenheit des Kunden bemühen. Auch das ist Innovation. Im Clubhaus ankommen, wo man vom Caddy Master herzlich begrüßt wird, wo die Rezeptionistin den Gästen ein warmes Lächeln schenkt, während sie die Buchungen checkt. Wo der Gärtner stolz auf seine Arbeit ist, aus dem einfachen Grund, sie gut gemeistert zu haben – auch dies ist Innovation. Im weiteren Sinn heißt das, traditionelle Wertevorstellungen wiederzubeleben, die in unserer rasenden, kannibalischen Gesellschaft in Vergessenheit geraten sind, das Beste von uns, unsere Professionaltät dafür einzusetzen, dass sich unsere Besucher wohl fühlen und zufrieden sind. Bei der Arabella Gruppe legen wir großen Wert auf diese Art von Innovation, fühlen uns in unsere Gäste ein und richten unseren Service danach aus. Nicht zu vergessen: die Teamarbeit. „Willst du schnell vorankommen, geh allein. Willst du weit kommen, geh zusammen mit anderen.“, lautet eine alte Weisheit. Hierin unterscheiden wir uns von anderen. stimado golfist@, Como viene siendo habitual, aprovecho esta editorial para ponerle al corriente sobre el estado de los proyectos en los cuales estamos trabajando. En este sentido, este año destacamos dos grandes proyectos, los cuales ya están en marcha –entiéndase, cada uno de diferente manera–: la nueva Casa Club de Golf Son Vida, y el cambio integral de la hierba en Golf Son Muntaner, además de reformas en su Casa Club. Como sabrá, y también espero que haya tenido ocasión de disfrutarla, la nueva Casa Club de Golf Son Vida está plenamente operativa. Me gustaría destacar su inmejorable ubicación, además de poder disfrutar de unas excelentes instalaciones y también de una atractiva oferta culinaria en el restaurante y, sobretodo, su terraza, dónde esperamos que haya encontrado un lugar magnífico para sentarse a celebrar sus partidas. Por otro lado, en breve tendremos habilitados los nuevos accesos a los hoyos 1 y 10, y pondremos en funcionamiento el nuevo “halfway”. En cuanto a Golf Son Muntaner, destacar los dos ejes del proyecto: el cambio integral de hierba y las mejoras de la Casa Club. Hablando del cambio de hierba, el proceso de siembra de la nueva Bermuda Celebration ha finalizado. Ahora solo falta esperar a que crezca adecuadamente y dentro de los plazos programados, que no es tarea fácil. Mencionar también que se ha aprovechado para nivelar los tees de salida y para dar más “movimiento” a los greens, preparar el nuevo diseño de los hoyos 5 y 6, además de algún otro cambio que podrá ver en octubre. Estoy seguro que podrá apreciar las diferencias. En relación a las mejoras de la Casa Club, destacar que también siguen según nuestros planes, y ya se empiezan a ver los cambios: mejoradas las salas de eventos, nuevos aseos en la planta principal, una nueva oficina de atención al socio, nuevos vestuarios, etc. Espero disfruten de la revista y de seguir jugando al golf con nosotros. Es un placer formar parte de sus buenos recuerdos.

ear Golfers, As is customary by now, I am taking advantage of this leading article to bring up to date on the state of the projects we are working on. In this regard, we have two large projects to highlight, which are already underway – each in a different way, let it be understood: the new clubhouse of Golf Son Vida, and the complete change of the grass at Golf Son Muntaner, as well as the renovation work on its clubhouse. As you will know, and indeed I hope you have had occasion to enjoy, the new clubhouse at Golf Son Vida is fully operational. I should like to highlight its unbeatable location, as well as the opportunity it affords to enjoy excellent installations and also an attractive culinary range in the restaurant and above all, the terrace, where we hope you have already found a splendid place to sit in and celebrate your games. Furthermore, the new accesses to holes 1 and 10 will soon be in use, and we will be making the new ‘halfway’ operational. With regard to Golf Son Muntaner, we should point out the two backbones of this project: the complete change in the grass, and the improvements to the clubhouse. Speaking of the change in grass, the planting process of the Bermuda Celebration has now concluded. All that is left now is to wait for it to grow suitably and within the scheduled periods, which is no easy task. And I would also like to mention that we have taken advantage of this to level out the starting tees and give the greens more ‘movement’, prepare the new design of holes 5 and 6, and also undertake a few other changes you will be able to see in October. I am certain you will be able to appreciate the differences. In relation to the improvements on the clubhouse, we should also stress that they are going according to plan, and we are already beginning to notice the changes – better events rooms, new toilets on the main floor, a new member service office, new changing rooms, etc. I sincerely hope you enjoy the magazine, and continuing to play golf with us. It is a pleasure to form part of your good memories.

erehrte G@lffreunde, Wie üblich, nutze ich den Leitartikel, um Sie auf den neuesten Stand bei unseren aktuellen Vorhaben zu bringen. In diesem Jahr setzen wir zwei ehrgeizige Projekte um, deren Realisierung bereits auf vollen Touren läuft, wenngleich bei jedem Projekt auf andere Weise. Zum einen das neue Clubhaus des Golf Son Vida, zum anderen der komplette Austausch des Rasens auf Son Muntaner und die Modernisierung des Clubhauses. Wie Sie wissen, haben wir das neue Clubhaus des Golf Son Vida eröffnet. Ich hoffe, Sie hatten die Gelegenheit für einen Besuch. An dieser Stelle möchte ich die privilegierte Lage des Clubhauses und seiner hervorragenden Anlagen erwähnen. Im Restaurant können Sie ein attraktives Kulinarik-Angebot genießen. Ein Trumpf ist zweifelsohne die große Terrasse, auf der Sie, so hoffen wir, viele Golfrunden feiern werden. In Kürze werden übrigens die neuen Zugänge zu den Bahnen 1 und 10 fertiggestellt sein. Außerdem eröffnen wir unser neues Halfway. Das Modernisierungsvorhaben auf Son Muntaner gliedert sich in zwei Teile: den kompletten Austausch des Rasens auf dem Platz und die Verbesserungen, die im Clubhaus vorgenommen werden. Zum Rasen: die Aussaat der neuen Sorte Bermuda Celebration ist abgeschlossen. Jetzt heißt es abzuwarten, dass der Rasen in der geplanten Zeit anwächst – kein leichtes Unterfangen. Im Rahmen der Arbeiten wurden auch die Abschläge geebnet, die Grüns dynamischer gestaltet, das neue Design der Bahnen 5 und 6 vorbereitet und noch ein paar Dinge auf den Weg gebracht, die Sie im Oktober sehen werden. Ich bin sicher, Sie wissen die Änderungen zu schätzen. Die Modernisierungsarbeiten im Clubhaus gehen wie geplant voran. Einige Änderungen, wie der Umbau der Eventräume, die neuen Toiletten in der oberen Etage, das neue Büro für die Betreuung der Mitglieder und die neuen Umkleideräume, kann man langsam schon sehen. Ich wünsche Ihnen viel Spaß bei der Lektüre unseres Magazins und hoffe, Sie genießen weiterhin das Golfspiel bei uns. Wir würden uns freuen, wenn Sie uns in bester Erinnerung behalten.

La Bermuda Celebration es una hierba más fuerte como especie, y a la vez resulta más suave para la práctica del

juego, aguanta a la perfección los picos de temperatura, consume menos agua y presenta un color más llamativo. La conclusión será un campo mucho más sostenible y en perfectas condiciones para jugar todo el año. Una vez reabierto el campo a primeros de octubre, Golf Son Muntaner se convertirá en el único campo de 18 hoyos de Europa con este tipo de hierba. La magnitud de dicha operación ha hecho que el campo haya estado cerrado desde primeros de mayo. Un periodo largo pero que sin duda habrá valido la pena.

cttua Golf Ser vices es la empresa de ingeniería especializada en campos de golf que lleva adelante el proyecto en Son Muntaner. ¿Qué papel desempeña su empresa en el proceso de cambio de hierba de Golf Son Muntaner? Hemos establecido la mejor estrategia para erradicar la especie Kikuyu e implantar la nueva Bermuda Celebration. Algo que en menor escala ya hemos realizado en otros campos como el en el Real Club de Golf de Las Brisas, en Marbella. ¿Qué reto supone este cambio de hierba? Normalmente, para sembrar un campo de golf se necesitan alrededor de nueve meses, pero en Golf Son Muntaner nos hemos puesto el reto de hacerlo en un tiempo record de cinco meses. ¿Cuáles serán, en su opinión de experto, los cambios más notables? Los cambios serán muy evidentes, ya que los roughs serán más jugables y las calles y tees más uniformes y firmes. A largo plazo también se producirá un ahorro significativo de agua, una mejor resistencia a plagas y tolerancia a la salinidad. ¿Cuál ha sido su opinión sobre Golf Son Muntaner y los otros tres campos de Arabella Golf Mallorca? Estoy bastante impresionado por su nivel y número de visitantes. Es envidiable la salud del golf en Mallorca, y por ello la calidad debe mantenerse como hace Golf Son Muntaner con su cambio de césped.

cttua Golf Services is the engineering company specialising in golf courses that is conduc ting the project at Son Muntaner. What role does your company play in the grass-changing process at Golf Son Muntaner? We have established the best strategy for eradicating the Kikuyu species and planting the new Bermuda Celebration. We have already done something like this on a smaller scale in other courses like the Real Club de Golf de Las Brisas in Marbella. What kind of challenge is this grass change? In the past, to plant a golf course you needed around nine months, but at Golf Son Muntaner we have set ourselves the goal of doing it in the record time of five months. In your expert opinion, what will be the most notable changes? The changes will be very noticeable, as the roughs will be easier to play and the fairways and tees will be more uniform and firmer. In the long term, there will be a significant saving of water too, as well as better resistance to pests and salinity tolerance. What is your opinion of Golf Son Muntaner and Arabella Golf Mallorca’s other three courses? I am quite impressed by their level and the number of visitors. The state of health of golf in Mallorca is enviable, and therefore the quality needs to be maintained as it is in Golf Son Muntaner with the change of grass.

Langfristig wird der Wasserverbrauch sinken, die Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Schädlingsplagen und die Verträglichkeit des Salzgehaltes im Boden steigen. Was halten Sie von Son Muntaner und den anderen drei Plätzen der Arabella Golf Mallorca? Ich bin sehr beeindruckt vom Niveau der Plätze und der Anzahl der Mitglieder und Gäste. Der Golfsport boomt beneidenswert auf Mallorca und aus diesem Grunde sollte man die hohe Qualität der Plätze halten, wie es derzeit mit dem Austausch des Rasens auf Golf Son Muntaner geschieht.

¿Por qué la Bermuda Celebration? Why Bermuda Celebration? Warum Bermuda Celebration?

a Bermuda Celebration ha sido el tipo de hierba elegida para la resiembra integral del campo de Golf Son Muntaner, sobre todo por su tolerancia al desgaste y su mayor poder de recuperación. Al soportar mejor la falta de agua y adaptarse mejor a la sombra que otros tipos de bermudas, es una garantía para disfrutar de un campo en perfectas condiciones durante todo el año. En los mejores campos del sur de Estados Unidos la Bermuda Celebration es la preferida por las condiciones citadas. Y es que existen numerosos estudios científicos que avalan a esta hierba para jugar al golf. Su hoja es más fina y se decolora menos en invierno. Resiste muy bien a plagas y enfermedades y aguanta todo tipo de suelos de PH entre 5,5 y 8,5.

The fact that it withstands lack of water and adapts to shade better than other types of Bermuda grasses guarantees enjoyment of a course in perfect conditions all year round. On the best courses in the south of the United States, Bermuda Celebration is preferred because of the aforementioned conditions. And there are numerous scientific studies that endorse this grass for golf. Its leaves are finer and its colour fades less in winter. It is very resistant to pests and illnesses, and can stand all soil types with pHs between 5.5 and 8.5.

La Casa Club de Golf Son Vida aspira también a convertirse en un punto de encuentro gastronómico de referencia en Son Vida, con espectaculares vistas sobre el green del hoyo 18.

he recent inauguration of the new clubhouse at Golf Son Vida has earned the unanimous approval of the members and clients of Arabella Golf Mallorca who have already seen it, as well as the residents of the ‘Urbanización de Son Vida’ who have visited this facility, which is designed as a meeting centre for social activities for all. Since Golf Son Vida is the oldest course, and the one with most charisma, on Mallorca, the new clubhouse had to retain the history, tradition and values of Golf Son Vida within its walls, as has in fact been achieved, without sacrificing the demands and commodities of the new age. The Golf Son Vida clubhouse also aspires to becoming a reference gastronomy meeting place within Son Vida, with spectacular views over the green of hole 18.

uál ha sido la razón fundamental para construir el nuevo club house de Golf Son Vida, tras más de medio siglo en el anterior edificio? El Golf Son Vida se inauguró hace más de 50 años, y las demandas de los socios eran muy distintas a las actuales; anteriormente el club house funcionaba únicamente para socios, no había muchos otros lugares a los que acudir para realizar su vida social; aquí se celebraban eventos, bailes sociales, comuniones, puestas de largo, etc... con las décadas la parte social se fue perdiendo, a la vez que el club house se abría a golfistas no socios y huéspedes de los hoteles. La tipología de la casa, ya de por sí sombría, con grandes salones, dos restaurantes, y sin embargo, la zona de golf muy pequeña, se había quedado obsoleta, aparte de fuera de ordenación debido a cambios

normativos del planeamiento de la ciudad, lo que impedía reformas de calado. Cuéntenos por favor las principales características de la nueva club house... Golf Son Vida, al ser un campo tan antiguo, los hoyos 1 y 18 están bastante lejos el uno del otro, a diferencia de lo que sucede en los campos más modernos. Así que finalmente optamos por levantar el nuevo edificio en el hoyo 18, un lugar privilegiado, con unas vistas muy despejadas. De ahí que la gran terraza de 300 metros cuadrados sea uno de los grandes atractivos del nuevo club house. Nuestros socios y la gente que viene a Mallorca quiere disfrutar del sol, de espacios abiertos, relajarse. Y esta terraza es ideal para ello. Luego hemos hecho una tienda más grande, y un restaurante luminoso y con un espacio adecuado para la demanda de nuestros clientes y para la celebración de eventos.

De todas formas sigue manteniendo la esencia y el sabor de lo que siempre ha sido el campo de Son Vida... Sí, es lo que pretendíamos, que en este sentido los socios no se dieran cuenta de que cambiábamos de club house, que el espíritu y el alma de la antigua pasara a la nueva, que es lo más difícil. De hecho hemos hablado mucho con ellos para escuchar sus ideas. Hacer una casa es muy fácil, pero que el espíritu sea el mismo, eso es lo más complicado. Por otra parte, se ha respetado el entorno con la arquitectura tradicional y mediterránea, utilizando tejas y persianas mallorquinas y otros elementos autóctonos. Ahora, el nuevo club house está perfectamente integrada en el entorno, y cumple con todos los criterios de sostenibilidad medioambientales, así como los de accesibilidad.

“Hemos preparado una serie de acciones para volver a dar a Son Vida el ambiente que siempre tuvo” ¿Cuáles son los retos para este nuevo periodo del club house?... Antes comentaba que con el paso de las décadas se había perdido un poco la actividad social. Ahora hemos empezado a preparar un conjunto de acciones alrededor del campo de golf y del club house para volver a darle más vida. En la inauguración, por ejemplo, invitamos a todos los vecinos de Son Vida a un cóctel, y haremos actividades enfocadas a ellos, como cenas temáticas, conciertos a la luz de la luna... Queremos que todos los vecinos de Son Vida, así como nuestros socios, sientan esto como propio, que vengan hacer un café, o a comer o cenar, y se encuentren a gusto en el nuevo club house.

hat was the fundamental reason for building the new Golf Son Vida clubhouse, after over half a century in the previous building? Golf Son Vida was inaugurated over 50 years ago, and the members’ demands were very different from those they have now; in the past, the clubhouse was only for members, there weren’t many other places to go to for social life; this was where events were held, social balls, communions, etc... and over the decades the social part was gradually lost, at the same time as the clubhouse opened up to nonmember players and guests of the hotels. The style of the house, which was rather sombre in itself, with large lounges, two restaurants and yet a very small golf area, had become obsolete, and it was no longer compliant with norms, due to regulatory changes in town planning, which prevented major restructuring from being carried out. Tell us what the main features of the new clubhouse are please... At Son Vida, with the course being so old, holes 1 and 18 are quite far from each other, unlike what is the case in the more modern courses. So in the end we chose to erect the new building at hole 18, a privileged place, with very clear views. Hence the fact that the large terrace, with a surface area of 300 square metres, is one of the great attractions of the new clubhouse. Our members and the people who come to Mallorca want to enjoy the sunshine, open spaces, to relax. And this terrace is perfect for that. And then we have made a larger shop, and a restaurant with plenty of light and an appropriate space for the demand of our customers and for holding events.

In any case, it still maintains the essence and traditional flavour of what the Son Vida course has always been... Yes, that is what we were aiming for, for members not to realise we were changing the clubhouse in this regard, for the spirit and soul of the old one should pass into the new one, which is more difficult. Actually we talked to them a great deal to hear their ideas. Making a clubhouse is very easy, but conserving the same spirit is the most complicated part. Moreover, we have respected the surroundings with the traditional, Mediterranean architecture, using Mallorcan tiles and shutters and other local elements. Der Golfplatz Son Vida wurde vor einem halben Jahrhundert eröffnet, die Ansprüche der damaligen Mitglieder unterschieden sich sehr von denen unserer heutigen Mitglieder. Früher waren im Clubhaus nur Mitglieder zugelassen, es gab kein anderes Lokal für das Clubleben. Hier wurden Events, Tanzabende, Kommunionen oder Debütantinnenbälle veranstaltet. Im Laufe der Zeit wurde das Clubleben immer weniger, das Clubhaus hingegen wurde immer mehr von externen Golfspielern und Hotelgästen frequentiert. Das durch den Haustyp eher dunkle Clubhaus mit seinen großen Salons und zwei Restaurants verfügte nur über einen kleinen Golfbereich und basierte auf einem

überholten Konzept. Durch die Änderungen der Baunormen der Stadt konnte außerdem kein umfassender Umbau erfolgen. Welche Eigenschaften kennzeichnen das neue Clubhaus? Da Son Vida seit langem besteht, liegen die Bahnen 1 und 18 sehr weit auseinander. Das ist bei modernen Golfplätzen anders. Aus diesem Grund fiel die Entscheidung, das neue Clubhaus an Bahn 18 zu bauen, ein Standort in privilegierter Lage mit freiem Ausblick. Die neue, 300 Quadratmeter große Terrasse ist einer der Trümpfe des neuen Clubhauses. Unsere Mitglieder und die Urlauber, die nach Mallorca kommen, wollen Sonne, offene Räume und Entspannung genießen und die neue Terrasse ist genau dafür absolut perfekt. Im Clubhaus gibt es einen größeren Pro Shop und ein lichtdurchflutetes Restaurant mit einem großen Saal, der für unsere Gäste und Events zur Verfügung steht. Das neue Clubhaus hat sich den Charme des Golf Son Vida trotzdem bewahrt, oder? Natürlich, genau das wollten wir erreichen, dass die Mitglieder den Wechsel vom alten ins neue Clubhaus kaum spüren sollten. Dass Geist und Seele des alten ins neue Clubhaus übergehen, ist ein schwieriges Unterfangen. Wir haben ausführlich mit unseren Mitgliedern gesprochen, ihre Ideen geprüft. Ein Haus zu bauen, ist einfach; das Wesen des alten im neuen Clubhaus zu erhalten hingegen kompliziert. Beim Bau des neuen Clubhauses wurden traditonelle Elemente der mediterranen Architektur favorisiert und u.a. mallorquinische Dachziegel und Fensterläden sowie andere einheimische Elemente verwendet, um das neue Clubhaus perfekt in die Umgebung zu integrieren. Darüber hinaus erfüllt der Neubau sämtliche ökologische Nachhaltigkeitskriterien und Normen der Barrierefreiheit. Welche Herausforderungen sehen Sie für das neue Clubhaus? Wie ich vorhin sagte, war das Clubleben im Laufe der Jahre weniger geworden. Künftig wollen wir den Platz und das Clubhaus wieder mit mehr Leben erfüllen. Zur Eröffnung des neuen Clubhauses haben wir die Anwohner von Son Vida zu einem Cocktail eingeladen; es wird mehr Aktivitäten geben, die sich an die Anwohner richten, wie Themen-Dinner oder Konzerte im Mondschein. Wir wollen, dass die Anwohner von Son Vida und unsere Mitglieder das neue Clubhaus als ihren Treffpunkt annehmen, wo sie einen Kaffee trinken, zu Mittag oder zu Abend essen und sich wohl fühlen.

¿En qué momento de su vida, a nivel personal y profesional, se encuentra? En el mejor. Siempre pienso que me queda lo mejor, el pasado ya no puedo cambiarlo por lo que yo, que soy positivo, siempre estoy en el mejor momento. Cuando mira atrás y ve todo lo que ha conseguido, ¿Qué momentos le han marcado más, como jugador de golf y como persona? Tengo cientos de recuerdos, pero me marcan las victorias y recuerdos únicos, como jugar con Nicklaus y Seve cuando aún era un pipiolo...

¿Qué campo de todos los que ha jugado en su vida le trae mejores recuerdos, y cuál es el que más se le ha atragantado? Me encanta el Old Course, y por supuesto Augusta. En España me quedo con El Saler y PGA Catalunya, donde además gané el Open de España. ¿Cuál ha sido o es su torneo favorito? La victoria del Open de España fue muy

Ser feliz, entrenar muy duro y no perder la cabeza, ni en los buenos ni en los malos momentos. De las veces que ha jugado en Golf Son Vida, en Mallorca, ¿Qué recuerdos tiene? Recuerdo un campo precioso y muy divertido, con mucho movimiento.. Una recomendación a todo golfista sin duda. Precisamente Golf Son Vida celebra este año su tercera prueba del Circuito Miguel Ángel Jiménez. ¿Qué consejos les daría a los jóvenes que aspiran a ser golfistas profesionales, como por ejemplo los de la Arabella Junior Golf Academy? Sobre todo que disfruten. Que aprovechen cada minuto que están en un campo de golf. El Circuito es algo maravilloso que une a padres y a hijos bajo un mismo deporte. Pronto iré a Palma a ver la evolución de todo lo que estáis haciendo... ¿Suele venir usted a Mallorca? ¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de la isla? Me encantaría venir más, mi calendario es cada vez peor... La isla entera me fascina, la ciudad de Palma es preciosa, se come de maravilla y con un microclima único.

At what point in your personal and professional life are you right now? At the best point. I always think that the best is yet to come, and I can’t change the past so since I am a positive person, I am always at my best moment.

my favourites are El Saler and PGA Catalunya, which is moreover where I won the Spanish Open. What was, or is your favourite tournament? Winning the Spanish Open was really emotional, after my injury and hearing many people say it was over for me. But El Pisha has a few years left in him yet... Of all the golfers you have played with, which one or ones impressed you the most, and why? Seve was unique for me, I have never seen his way of understanding golf again. And Tiger is from another galaxy... I mean that. And then all the next ones in line are spectacular... Rory McIlroy, Sergio García, Day...

L ooking back at all you have achieved, what moments have marked you the most as a golfer and a person? I recall so many things, but I am marked by the victories and some unique memories, such as playing with Nicklaus and Seve when I was just a kid...

Do you feel you have broken some kind of barrier in this sport, because of your way of seeing and understanding life? Not really. We aren’t used to this in Spain, but people in other countries are. I take things very much one day at a time and I don’t think about what I have achieved, or what I can achieve. I live in the moment, one day we’ll see if I break some kind of barrier.

Of all the courses you have played on in your life, which one holds the best memories for you, and which one have you liked the least? I love the Old Course, and of course Augusta. In Spain

What is your secret for maintaining such a high level after so many years on the circuit? Being happy, training hard and not losing my head, in the good or the bad moments.

What are your memories of the times you have played at Golf Son Vida, in Mallorca? I remember a beautiful, very enjoyable course, with a great deal of movement. A recommendation for any golfers, without a doubt. Precisely Golf Son Vida is holding its third Miguel Ángel Jiménez Circuit trial this year. What tips would you give young people aspiring to become professional golfers, like those of the Arabella Junior Golf Academy, for example? First and foremost that they must enjoy. They should make the most of every minute they’re on a golf course. The Circuit is a wonderful thing that brings parents and children together under the same sport. I will be going to Palma soon to see how everything you are doing is evolving... Do you come to Mallorca often? What do you like most about the island? I would love to come more, my calendar gets worse and worse... The whole island fascinates me, the city of Palma is beautiful, the food is fantastic and there is a unique microclimate.

Ich habe hunderte Erinnerungen, aber meine Siege und einzigartige Erinnerungen haben mich am meisten beeinflusst, wie z.B. mit Nicklaus oder Seve zu spielen. Da war ich noch ein blutiger Anfänger. Welcher Golfplatz birgt für Sie die schönsten Erinnerungen, welchen Course mögen Sie gar nicht? Ich bin begeistert vom Old Course und natürlich vom Augusta. In Spanien gefallen mir die Plätze El Saler und PGA Catalunya am besten. Dort habe ich die Spanischen Open gewonnen. Welches war oder ist Ihr Lieblingsturnier? Der Sieg bei den Spanischen Open nach meiner Verletzung hat mich tief berührt. Viele waren damals der Meinung, dass meine Karriere zu Ende wäre. Aber El Pisha denkt noch lange nicht ans Aufhören. Welche Profigolfer, mit denen Sie zusammen gespielt haben, haben Sie am meisten beeindruckt? Seve war ein einzigartiger Mensch, so wie seine Sicht auf das Golfspiel. Tiger ist nicht von dieser Welt. Golfspieler, wie Rory McIlroy, Sergio García oder Day, sind auch absolut großartig.

In Spanien sind die Leute nicht daran gewöhnt, in anderen Ländern schon. Ich nehme jeden Tag ernst und denke nicht darüber nach, was ich erreicht habe oder erreichen könnte. Ich lebe den Augenblick und mal schauen, welche Hürden ich vielleicht nehmen kann. Wie machen Sie das, dass Sie nach so vielen Jahren noch immer ein derart hohes Niveau auf dem Golfplatz halten? Mein Geheimnis: glücklich sein, sehr hartes Training und nicht den Kopf verlieren, weder in den guten noch schlechten Momenten im Leben. Sie haben mehrmals auf dem Golf Son Vida auf Mallorca gespielt. Woran erinnern Sie sich? An einen wunderschönen Platz, der viel Spielvergnügen bereitet, sich durch dynamische Spielweise auszeichnet. Zweifelsohne eine Empfehlung für jeden Golfspieler. Der Golf Son Vida ist in diesem Jahr Gastgeber des dritten Turniers des Circuito Miguel Ángel Jiménez. Was raten Sie jungen Spielern, die gern Profis werden möchten, wie die Schüler der Arabella Junior Golf Academy? Vor allem sollten sie Spaß am Golfspiel haben und jede Minute auf dem Golfplatz gut nutzen. Der Cicuito ist phantastisch, Eltern und Kinder betreiben zusammen denselben Sport. Ich werde bald nach Palma kommen und mir mal anschauen, was ihr da so macht... Kommen Sie regelmäßig nach Mallorca? Was gefällt Ihnen auf der Insel am besten? Ich würde gern öfter kommen, aber mein Kalender hat immer weniger Platz. Mir gefällt die ganze Insel. Palma ist wunderschön, man isst gut und dann das milde Klima...

¿Qué recuerdos tiene del Open de Baleares en 1990? Muy buenos recuerdos de Son Vida, ¡exceptuando el hecho de que no gané!

todo el fin de semana, y yo estuve por delante desde el primer día, hasta que justo Seve me alcanzó en el último hoyo con un birdie, forzando un desempate. Al año siguiente, sin embargo, me llevó en su coche desde el campo hasta el hotel, y compartió conmigo en su habitación cómo era su preparación mental para los torneos. Eso fue un gran detalle.

¿Cómo fue jugar con Severiano Ballesteros? Un competidor muy difícil de batir... Yo estaba luchando por conseguir mi primera victoria en el Tour, y Seve era mi rival. Además Seve jugaba en casa, su manager era el anfitrión del evento, así que él quería ganar como fuera. Él y yo jugamos en el último grupo

¿Cuáles han sido sus mayores logros como jugador de golf? He representado a mi país en el Campeonato del Mundo (6 veces) y he ganado una medalla de plata en el Campeonato del Mundo por Equipos para amateurs. Jugué en el Open Championship 3 veces cuando era adolescente. Creo que todavía soy el

jugador más joven en clasificarme para el Tour europeo, con 17 años de edad. Pero considero que mis mayores logros los tengo todavía por cumplir. ¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de este deporte y cómo empezó a jugar? ¿Tiene algún consejo para los jugadores jóvenes? Para un niño cualquier deporte es estupendo, pero yo creo que en el golf adquieres más responsabilidad. En este juego necesitamos actuar como árbitro cuando estamos en el campo, ayudándonos los unos a los otros con todas las situaciones que suceden. Yo creo que estos son unos valores estupendos que aprendes mientras te haces mayor. Me gusta pensar que el golf nos enseña la deportividad y el respeto por los demás. El juego empieza a más o menos un metro del hoyo, dejando que los niños vivan ellos mismos como es golpear y meter la bola. Yo empecé en el putting green cuando tenía 4 años; mis padres salían a jugar 18 hoyos (3 horas). Tenía tiempo de sobra para aprender los desniveles en aquel putting green, hasta dominarlo por completo. ¿Cuál es su relación con el golf actualmente? Es una relación de siete días a la semana, aunque cuanto más aprendes sobre el golf, más te recompensa de una forma u otra, todo el tiempo. Actualmente hago tres cosas: primero, soy profesional PGA en mi club, enseño y también entreno a Juniors. Además trabajo en la Liga Nórdica (tour profesional de 3er nivel) como Director de Torneo. Y finalmente, ahora juego en el tour otra vez, pero ahora en el Senior European Tour, en mi primera temporada.

What are your memories of the Balearic Open in 1990? Very good memories of Son Vida, except for the part that I didn’t win!

What was it like to play with Severiano Ballesteros? Tough man to play with, I was fighting to break through on Tour with a first win and Seve was my challenger. Seve on the other hand was playing on home turf; his manager was the host of the event so he also wanted to win very badly. Seve and I played in the last group all weekend and I had the lead from day one, until Seve just caught up with me on the very last hole (72nd) with a birdie to force a play-off. The following year though, he gave me a lift to the hotel from the golf course and shared his mental preparations for a tournament in his hotel room. That was cool. What are your biggest accomplishments as a golfer? I have represented my country in the World Cup (6 times) and won a silver medal in World Team

Championship for amateurs. I played the Open Championship 3 times as a teenager. I believe I’m still the youngest player to have qualified through to the European Tour at age 17. But I believe I have my biggest accomplishments ahead of me. What do you like the most about this sport, and how did you start playing? Any advice for the young players? Any sport for a young kid is great, but I believe that in golf, you take more responsibility on yourself. In this game we need to act as a referee out on the course, helping each other with all the situations that occur. Showing respect for the course and the personnel that take such good care of the course. This game is so difficult to master that we golfers help each other to become better, even if we compete against each other. I think those are great values to learn as you grow up when you are a kid. I like to believe that golf teaches us sportsmanship and respect for each other. The game starts from 3 feet from the hole, letting the kids experience for themselves to

‘Seve shared his mental preparation for tournaments with me. That was a great gift’ hole out the shots. I started on the putting green when I was 4 years old, my parents went out to play 18 holes (3 hours). I had plenty of time to learn the slopes on that putting green and became very good at it. What is your relationship with golf at present? It’s a seven-day-a-week relationship, though you more you learn about golf, it always rewards you in one way or the other. I currently do three things, first I’m a PGA professional at my club, teaching and also coaching juniors. I also do some work on the Nordic League (3rd level professional tour) as a Tournament Director. And finally, I’m now playing again on tour, but now on the Senior European Tour (first season).

Ich erinnere mich sehr gern an Son Vida, auch wenn ich die Open damals nicht gewann! Wie war es, gegen Severiano Ballesteros anzutreten? Es war schwer, gegen ihn zu spielen. Ich habe darum gekämpft, mit einem ersten Sieg in der Tour weiterzukommen und Seve war mein Rivale, der im Gegensatz zu

mir auf heimischem Boden spielte; sein Manager war der Gastgeber des Events und deswegen wollte er hoch gewinnen. Wir spielten das ganze Wochenende in der letzten Gruppe; ich lag seit dem ersten Tag vorn. Bis Seve auf der letzten Bahn an Loch 72 ein Birdie gelang und damit das Unentschieden. Im Jahr darauf fuhr er mich mit seinem Auto vom Platz ins Hotel und zeigte mir, wie er sich mental auf Turniere vorbereitete. Das war genial! Ihre größten Siege als Profigolfer? Ich habe mein Land sechs Mal bei einer Weltmeisterschaft vertreten, eine Silbermedaille bei der Amateur-WM mit der Mannschaft gewonnen. Als Jugendlicher habe ich an drei Open teilgenommen. Ich glaube ich bin immer noch derjenige, der sich im Alter von 17 Jahren als jüngster Spieler für die European Tour quailifizerte. Meine größten Erfolge stehen aber noch aus, davon bin ich überzeugt. Was gefällt Ihnen am besten am Golf? Wann haben Sie mit dem Spielen angefangen? Haben Sie ein paar Tipps für junge Golfer? Für einen Jungen ist jeder Sport ein Gewinn, aber im Golf übernimmst du mehr Verantwortung. Wenn wir auf dem Platz sind, sind wir gleichzeitig Schiedsrichter. Man muss den Platz und das Personal, das diesen so sorgfältig pflegt, respektieren. Golf spielen ist nicht einfach zu erlernen, aus diesem Grund müssen sich die Spieler untereinander in jeder Situation helfen, sich dabei unterstützen, ihre Spieltechnik zu verbessern, selbst wenn sie in einem Turnier gegeneinander antreten. Das sind unschätzbare Wertevorstellungen, die du hier schon als Kind vermittelt bekommst, zum Beispiel Sportsgeist oder Respekt gegenüber deinen Mitmenschen. Der interessante Teil des Spiels beginnt etwa einen Meter vor dem Loch. Kinder sollten den Ball selbst schlagen und einlochen, fühlen, wie das ist. Ich habe mit vier Jahren am putting green begonnen; meine Eltern spielten drei Stunden lang die 18 Loch Runde, ich hatte also genug Zeit, um die slopes zu lernen. Und ich wurde richtig gut. Welche Beziehung haben Sie heute zum Golf? Eine Sieben-Tages-Beziehung! Je mehr du über Golf lernst, desto mehr Vergnügen bereitet der Sport. Auf die ein oder andere Art wird man immer für die Mühen entschädigt. Zur Zeit bin ich in drei Bereichen tätig. Zum einen bin ich PGA-Pro und trainiere die Junioren in meinem Club; dann arbeite ich in der Northern Liga (Tour Niveau 3) als Turnierleiter und schließlich trete ich auch wieder in der Tour an, dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal in der Senior European Tour.

olf Son Quint es la sede del Circuito de Damas. María Moncada, una de las tres miembros del Comité de Competición junto a Maite Alcover y Rosa Arto, nos cuenta algo más acerca de este entrañable grupo: “En los primeros años éramos unas 12 o 13 componentes, y nos reuníamos el mismo día para salir en grupos. Era una buena forma de conocer a otras compañeras jugadoras. El número fue creciendo con los años y el Club nos planteó que jugáramos más días a la semana. Actualmente somos más de 40 señoras jugadoras de todas las edades. Jugamos tres circuitos al año (en otoño, invierno y primavera). Cada circuito consta

de nueve vueltas y cada vuelta se puede jugar cualquier día de la semana. Al final del circuito se celebra una comida o merienda durante la que se reparten los premios. En cada categoría se premia a la mujer que ha hecho la mejor vuelta de la semana, y también hay un premio scratch y varios hándicaps para el conjunto de la categoría. El Circuito de Damas es la forma de iniciarse en el golf, jugar con otras jugadoras con más experiencia y aprender reglas de golf y de cortesía y, todo ello, como paso previo a las competiciones. También es una forma de integrarse en el Club y conocer a otras jugadoras. Hoy el circuito se juega en Son Quint, pues es el campo que tiene más jugadoras y en el que

jugamos las que formamos el comité. Está abierto a todas las jugadoras socias de Son Quint, e intentamos fomentar el compañerismo entre todas. Entendemos que el éxito del circuito es la amistad y el compañerismo que se va desarrollando a lo largo de los años entre todas las participantes”.

the same day to go out in groups. It was a good way of getting to know other female players. Over the years the number went up and the Club proposed that we play more days a week. There are now over 40 lady golfers of all ages in the group. We play three circuits a year (in autumn, winter and spring). Every circuit is comprised of nine rounds and each

round can be played on any day of the week. At the end of the circuit there is a lunch or high tea when the prizes are awarded. In every category, there is a prize for the woman who has had the best round of the week, and there is also a scratch prize and several handicaps for the whole of the category. The Ladies’ Circuit is a way of being initiated into golf, of playing with other lady players with more experience and of learning the rules of golf and of courtesy, all as a preparatory step for competitions. It is also a way of becoming integrated into the Club and meeting other woman golfers. The circuit is played at Son Quint because

it is the course with the most woman players and where those of us who are on the committee play. It is open to all lady golfers who are members of Son Quint, and we try to encourage companionship amongst them all. We believe that the success of the circuit is based on the friendship and companionship that grows up over the years between all the members’.

Turnier besteht aus neun Golfrunden, wobei die Runden an jeweils unterschiedlichen Wochentagen gespielt werden können. Zum Abschluss des Turniers gibt es ein Mittagessen, bei dem die Preise übergeben werden. Prämiert wird die Golfspielerin die pro Kategorie, das beste Wochenergebnis erreicht hat. Darüber hinaus werden Preise für Scratch und Handicaps für die jeweilige Kategorie vergeben.

Das Damenturnier eignet sich gut für Anfängerinnen, die von anderen, erfahreneren Spielerinnen in Golfregeln und Etikette eingeführt werden, und ist eine gute Vorbereitung auf größere Turniere. Außerdem fördern dererlei Initiativen den Kontakt mit anderen Mitgliedern und die Integration neuer Mitglieder in das Clubleben. „Derzeit wird das Turnier auf Son Quint veranstaltet. Der Platz hat die höchste Anzahl an Golferinnen und hier spielen auch die Mitglieder des Turnierausschusses. Der Platz steht allen Mitgliedern des Clubs Son Quint offen. Mit unserem Turnier wollen wir Kameradschaft und Freundschaften unter den Teilnehmerinnen fördern, die im Laufe der Jahre wachsen.“

uáles son las novedades de esta temporada en la Junior Academy? Como novedad en este curso hemos puesto en marcha dos grupos de competición, donde los jugadores de dichos grupos entrenan en grupos más reducidos (4 por grupo), y además, más horas por semana (6 horas de golf y 1,5h de preparación física). Estos dos grupos se han podido aprovechar también de unas cuantas sesiones en el campo con una psicóloga deportiva especializada en golf de alto rendimiento,

así como de una estación de fisioterapia donde se trabajan temas posturales y de equilibrios para evitar futuras lesiones a través de ejercicios específicos. ¿Qué diferencia hay entre enseñar a niños y adultos? Por norma general a los niños es mejor enseñarles en grupos y a través de juegos, lo que llamamos “aprender jugando”. De esta manera conseguimos que el niño vea el golf como algo divertido. De todas formas, sea niño o adulto, lo que intentamos casi desde el primer momento es poner a los alumnos

en situaciones reales de juego, para que luego no encuentren una gran diferencia entre el campo de prácticas y el campo. ¿Qué enseña el golf a los niños? El golf les enseña sobre todo unos valores que les sirven para todo en la vida: compañerismo, disciplina, puntualidad, tener rutinas, una vida saludable, respeto por los demás, humildad, respeto por el entorno, por el material, empatía... podría estar un día entero mencionando beneficios no sólo para los niños, ¡sino para todos!

Depende del objetivo que tenga cada uno, de la edad del niño y de si le apetece competir o no. En la Arabella Golf Academy no somos partidarios de obligar a nadie a competir, pero sí que intentamos motivar a los niños a que por lo menos lo prueben alguna vez, ya que forma parte del aprendizaje de cualquier jugador de golf. ¿Cuáles son las características de los cuatro campos de Arabella Golf Mallorca? Tenemos tres campos de 18 hoyos muy diferentes entre sí, por lo que el cliente/ socio puede disfrutar de una interesante variedad sin moverse de Palma. Son Quint es un campo más ancho y plano. Son Vida es como estar en un jardín, un campo corto y estrecho con más desniveles. Son Muntaner es el campo catalogado más como de competición, más largo y exigente. Y luego está el Son Quint Pitch + Putt course, campo de 9 hoyos par 3 con distancias cortas ideal para principiantes, niños y para practicar el juego corto. ¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de ser profesor de golf? Me gusta ver la evolución de los alumnos, ver que cada día que vienen a clase vienen con ganas de mejorar y de disfrutar de este deporte.

hat are this season’s novelties at the Junior Academy? One novelty this year is that we have started up two competition groups, where the players in said groups practise in smaller groups (4 per group), and also, for more hours a week (6 hours of golf and 1.5h of physical training). These two groups were also able to take advantage of a few sessions on the course with a sports psychologist who specialises in high-performance golf, and a physiotherapy station where work is done on posture and balance to prevent future injuries using specific exercises. What difference is there between teaching children and adults? Generally speaking it is better to teach children in groups and using games, which we call ‘learning through play’. In this way we manage to get children to see golf as something that is fun. But either way, whether with adults or children, what we try to do almost from the very first moment is to put the students in real play situations, so that they don’t notice a big

difference between the practice course and the actual course.

What does golf teach children? Above all golf teaches them values that are useful to them for a whole lifetime: comradeship, discipline, punctuality, having routines, a healthy lifestyle, respect for others, humility, respect for the environment, for material, empathy... I could spend a whole day mentioning about the benefits not just for children, but for everybody!.

Welcher Unterschied besteht zwischen dem Training von Kindern und Erwachsenen? Kinder lassen sich besser in der Gruppe und durch Spiele trainieren, sie lernen Golf „spielerisch“ und sehen das Golfspiel als eine Sportart, die Spaß macht. Eines hat das Training von Kindern und Erwachsenen jedoch gemeinsam. Wir achten von Anfang an darauf, die Schüler realen Spielsituationen auszusetzen, damit sie später keinen großen Unterschied zwischen Übungsgelände und Golfplatz empfinden.

Is it important for them to take part in tournaments? That depends on each individual’s goal, the age of the child and whether he or she wants to compete or not. At Arabella Golf Academy we don’t believe in forcing anybody to compete, but we do try to motivate children to at least try it some time, as it forms part of the learning process of any golfer. What are the characteristics of the four Arabella Golf Mallorca courses? We have three 18-hole courses that are very different from one another, so customers/members can

Son Quint is a broader, flatter course. Son Vida is like being in a garden, a short, narrow course with more different levels. Son Muntaner is the course classed more as a competition course, longer and more demanding. And then there is the Son Quint Pitch + Putt course, a 9-hole, par 3 course with short distances, ideal for beginners, children and practising your short game. What do you like the most about being a golf instructor? I like seeing how the students evolve, seeing that every day they come to class, they are eager to improve and enjoy this sport.

Im Rahmen einer Physiotherapie werden Dinge wie Körperhaltung und Gleichgewicht geschult,

Was kann der Golfsport Kindern vermitteln? Das Golfspielen vermittelt ihnen Wertvorstellungen für ihr ganzes Leben, u.a. Kameradschaft, Disziplin, Pünktlichkeit, das Aufstellen von Routinen, eine gesunde Lebensweise, Respekt vor ihren Mitmenschen, Bescheidenheit, respektvollen Umgang mit der Umwelt und dem verwendeten Material, Empathie... Ich könnte den ganzen Tag über die Vorteile des Golfspiels reden, die ja nicht nur Kindern, sondern uns allen zugute kommen! Halten Sie die Teilnahme von Kindern an Turnieren für wichtig? Das kommt auf das Ziel an, das das Kind hat, sein Alter und ob es überhaupt an einem Turnier teilnehmen möchte. Bei der Arabella Golf Academy halten wir nichts davon, jemanden zu Wettkämpfen zu zwingen, aber wir motivieren die Kinder, es wenigstens ein Mal zu probieren. Turniere sind eben ein Teil im Lernprozess eines jeden Golfspielers. Wodurch zeichnen sich die vier Plätze der Arabella Golf Mallorca aus? Wir haben drei 18 Loch Plätze, die sich voneinander unterscheiden, so dass Gäste und Mitglieder ein vielfältiges Golfvergnügen genießen können, ohne die Stadt Palma verlassen zu müssen. Son Quint ist größer und flacher angelegt, Son Vida hingegen ist wie ein Garten, ein kurzer, enger Platz mit mehr Höhenunterschieden. Son Muntaner wiederum ist eher ein Turnierplatz, der Course ist länger und anspruchsvoller. Und dann gibt es noch den Son Quint Pitch + Putt Course, ein 3 Par 9 Loch Platz mit kurzen Abschlägen, ideal für Anfänger und Kinder und perfekt, um das Kurzspiel zu üben. Was gefällt Ihnen an Ihrem Beruf als Golflehrer am besten? Ich finde es spannend, die Entwicklung der Schüler zu verfolgen. Es macht Spaß, wenn die Schüler zum Unterricht kommen und man merkt, sie tun es mit Begeisterung, setzen alles daran, ihre Spielweise zu verbessern.

During the tests, 59 Club carries out different actions, such as reserving tees by telephone, analysing the reception, the changing rooms, the Pro Shops, the driving range, the information provided by the starter, the golf courses themselves, and the staff team, from the rangers to the drinks buggies’ drivers. 59 Club prepares a report enabling the people in charge of the golf course to identify business opportunities, improve the qualities of their staff, reinforce their attitude towards customers and improve the installations. ermán Company coordina y controla la gestión del equipo de seguridad, encargado de que todo transcurra de modo normal en los campos de Son Vida, Son Muntaner y Son Quint. “Mi día a día consiste en asegurar que no haya ninguna anomalía ni ningún intruso en los cuatro campos de golf, que no entre nadie no autorizado que pueda molestar en la zona de juego. Tenemos un buen equipo de seguridad de Mevisa, con unas ocho o diez personas que ejercen tareas de vigilancia. Día a día paseo en moto por los campos de golf de Arabella, y a veces también en buggy, pendiente de cualquier incidente para luego comunicarlo a mantenimiento o a la sección que corresponda. En general, estamos hablando de cuatro campos muy seguros, ubicados en una zona excepcional y ya de por sí muy tranquila, por lo que tenemos muy pocas incidencias”.

We have a good Mevisa security team, with around eight or ten people who carry out surveillance tasks. Every day I go around the Arabella golf courses by motorbike, and sometimes by buggy too, in case there are any incidents which I then communicate to maintenance or the corresponding department. In general, we are talking about four extremely safe courses, located in an exceptional setting that is in itself already very quiet, so we have very few incidents’.

Ich fahre die Arabella Golfplätze entweder mit dem Moped oder mit dem Buggy ab und melde Zwischenfälle an die Abteilung für Pflege und Instandhaltung oder andere zuständige Bereiche. Die Sicherheit auf den vier Plätzen ist sehr hoch, sie befinden sich in privilegierter Lage in einer ruhigen Gegend. Es gibt nur wenig Zwischenfälle.“

l pasado mes de abril tuvo lugar la auditoria de renovación de los certificados ISO 14.001 del grupo Arabella Golf, así como el certificado EMAS de Golf Son Muntaner, por parte de la empresa TÜV Rheinland. La empresa certificadora se ha encargado de comprobar que nuestro Sistema de Gestión Ambiental sigue cumpliendo con todos los requisitos de la norma ISO 14001 y el Reglamento europeo EMAS, y estamos realizando un adecuado mantenimiento del mismo. La validez de estos certificados será de otros tres años. Enhorabuena al personal de todos los departamentos por el trabajo realizado y su implicación.

The certification company was in charge of verifying that our Environmental Management System continues to comply with all of the requisites of standard ISO 14001 and the European EMAS regulation, and that we are conducting proper maintenance of it. Cualquier jugador puede solicitar un estudio de los palos que dispone y recibir consejo profesional sobre si estos son los más adecuados, tanto en rendimiento como a nivel técnico y también para prevenir posibles lesiones provocadas por el uso de palos inadecuados. También se realizan reparaciones de palos, grips, varillas, entre otros. ué representa tener una Estrella Michelin? Trabajar día a día con una Estrella Michelin es emocionante. Por una parte es un gran reconocimiento a la labor de un equipo, pero también es una gran responsabilidad y por momentos puedes llegar a sentir presión mediática.

¿Qué tipo de cocina ofrecen en el restaurante Es Fum? Nuestra especialidad consiste en ser honestos en la mesa con productos prioritarios como la fruta, verdura, especias, pes-

cados y carnes nobles. Nuestros clientes definen nuestra cocina como sabor tradicional con toques actuales muy atrevidos, productos estacionales y con pocas mezclas que puedan llegar a confundirles. ¿Qué platos le gustan más de la gastronomía mallorquina? Disfruto de cada plato tradicional en su debido momento o estación. En nuestro menú siempre hay una pincelada de productos de la isla, hemos crecido con ellos, son parte de nuestra cultura y nos proporcionan diversidad en la cocina.

¿Cuáles han sido sus proyectos más importantes en los últimos meses? Safari Culinario, un gran evento que este año ha acogido The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort con chefs de diferentes continentes. ¿Cómo debe ser un buen chef, en su opinión? Honesto en sus elaboraciones, innovador día a día, una persona feliz con su trabajo, respetuoso con los demás y fiel a su propio estilo. Debe tener inteligencia emocional y don de gentes. ¿Le gusta el golf? Lo he practicado en algunas ocasiones. Actualmente no juego, pero no descarto volver a hacerlo.

What type of cuisine do you offer at Es Fum? Our speciality is being honest at the table, with priority products like the finest fruit, vegetables, spices, fish and meats. Our customers define our cuisine as having a traditional flavour with very bold modern touches, seasonal ingredients and not too many combinations that might confuse them. What are your favourite dishes from Mallorcan gastronomy? I enjoy each traditional dish at its proper time or in season. On our menu there is always a brushstroke of products from the island, we grew up with them, they are part of our culture and they give us diversity in the kitchen.

What have been your most important projects in the last months? Culinary Safari, a great event that was held at The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort this year with chefs from different continents.

In your opinion, what should a good chef be like? Honest in his or her creations, innovative every day, a person who is happy with his or her work, respectful of others and faithful to his or her own style. A chef should have emotional intelligence and be good with people. Do you like golf? I have played it a few times. I don’t play at present, but I don’t rule out taking it up again.

a Presidenta del Govern de les Illes Balears, Francina Armengol, recibió al Consejero Delegado de Arabella Golf Mallorca, Francisco Vila, en una visita institucional en junio. Durante el encuentro, Francisco Vila explicó la filosofía de valor y crecimiento sostenible, la apuesta por el turismo de calidad y la extensión de la temporada por parte del Grupo Arabella. La Presidenta valoró estos datos y se interesó por los últimos proyectos y renovaciones en los establecimientos del grupo.

n June the president of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, received the CEO of Arabella Golf Mallorca, Francisco Vila, on an institutional visit. During the meeting, Francisco Vila explained the Arabella Group’s philosophy of sustainable growth and value and its commitment to quality tourism and the extension of the season. The president assessed these data and showed interest in the latest projects and renovations that have taken place in the group’s establishments.

l 26 de marzo de 2016 tuvo lugar el Torneo de Pascua. Una jornada de buen tiempo y gran participación de jugadores, por lo que se ha convertido en el evento más significativo de este año.

En “12 Bajo Par” solicitamos a los jugadores que visitan nuestros campos un euro solidario para ayudar a los que más lo necesitan. Este año la recaudación va destinada a las siguientes asociaciones locales: Fundació Es Garrover, Fundació RANA, SOS Animal Mallorca, Fundación Handisport, Fundación Indig, Projecte Home Balears, Amadiba, Adamob, Fundación Nazaret, Auba, Prodis, Cooperación Internacional Dona Vida.
