District Governor - Paige Hein

When I started my term back in February, I established many goals for the service year. While it would be impossible to recap everything Indiana Key Club has accomplished, I can provide you with a few updates on the goals established in my Governor’s Greeting.

Hello Indiana Key Clubbers!

My name is Paige Hein and I am a junior at Washington Township High School in the Duneland Division. I cannot believe we are already halfway through the service year, and I am halfway through my term serving each and every one of you as Indiana District Governor. It has been an incredible journey thus far, and I am proud of everything we have accomplished in these past several months. The commitment of every Key Clubber and supporter to prioritize serving your home, school, and community is astonishing and inspiring. I am incredibly grateful to be serving such a wonderful organization of dedicated servant leaders.

Website improvement: Revamped the district website to include a calendar, search bar, more club resources, many Service Project Directory submissions in new categories, information on our district programs, and so much more.

Committees: Successfully integrated a brand new District Initiatives Committee, which has created a new pen pal and district event scholarship program for our members, alongside our thriving Member Development, Events and Planning, Kfam and Connections, and Service committees. Social media: Brought back the LTG Table Talk YouTube video series in addition to utilizing the Governor Instagram more than ever before as just a few of the many ways our district's social media presence has increased.

K-Fam: Spearheaded a Key Club Senior Night with guest speakers from Circle K and presented about Key Club at the Indiana Kiwanis District Convention as just two of the many ways Kiwanis Family ties were strengthened.

District Governor - Paige Hein

None of this would be possible without the remarkable group of high schoolers proudly serving on the Indiana District Board. Not only have the countless hours of service our Executive Board and Lieutenant Governors devoted to their positions remarkably contributed to the achievements listed above, but I’ve seen firsthand how their selfless efforts contributed to their development as leaders. Additionally, one of this would be possible without the phenomenal adults who dedicate themselves to Key Club. Thank you to every advisor, sponsor, adult administrator, and supporter for making these opportunities possible.

Another aspect of Key Club is our amazing events. So far in my term, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to attend International events such as the Governor and Administrator Training Conference, International Convention, and Leadership Convention. Throughout the final half of my term, there are many Indiana District events, such as Fall Rally at the Indianapolis Zoo on October 14th, Key Leader at Camp Tecumseh on November 3rd-5th, and of course, our 72nd annual District Leadership Convention on March 1st-3rd, 2024. I am excited to announce for the first time that our DLC theme will be “Service for the Storybooks!” DLC will be an epic culmination of the service year, so please mark your calendars now. Registration for Fall Rally and Key Leader is open now, s November 1st.

4

Once again, I’d like to take a moment to thank you. I hold so much faith in the Indiana District Key Clubs, and I am confident these last several months of my term will be wonderfully rewarding. Please reach out to your Lieutenant Governor if you need anything, and I also encourage you to join my monthly office hours on the first Monday of every month at 8pm EST/7pm CST. You can find the links to everything I’ve talked about today and many more resources at the Linktree (linked below). I am looking forward to connecting with you at district events, club visits, office hours, and more! Remember, even small acts of kindness make a huge difference in the world. You cannot do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good that you can do.

Yours in service,

Paige Hein

District Governor - Paige Hein

Hello Key Clubbers! As the summer is ending and the school year is starting, I want to recap my past few months of this quarter! First of all, as I mentioned in the last Key News Edition, I finished up working on next year ’ s budget and just very recently presented it at our August Board meeting. I have been marking off on the incentive chart left and right for LTGs directives being completed, creating new sheets for the upcoming months and quarter to be ready to go. We are bringing back club reports this year, and I just finished creating the first one!

As always, I am taking meeting minutes of our bi-weekly executive and administrative meetings and sending it to them. Lastly for Key Club, I have been staying on top of my emails and helping LTGs with any questions they have. Apart from Key Club, I have been working at both of my jobs in which I talked about last Key News. I absolutely love the atmosphere in both work places, especially in the summertime. Since I’m officially a senior now, I am starting to search for colleges to apply to and fill out my Common App. I can’t believe that next time you’ll hear from me I will be all done with this process! I hope you all had an amazing summer and are settling into your school year!--

Hello Indiana District! It’s only been two months since my last Key News, but plenty of stuff has happened! The INDB and Exec Board have been working incredibly hard and everyone has been doing such an amazing job. I have been working hard on getting topics for this issue of Key News, and have been working on keeping myself focused and organized. I also worked with District Administrator Heidi Polizotto to order crewnecks for the INDB, which can be seen on the August Recap page! The Exec and Admin team worked hard to plan a successful August Board meeting,

for which I created the meeting presentation and a Key News workshop. I asked the Lieutenant Governors what they thought would be most useful and important for their divisions to see, which was very helpful and insightful. Outside of Board Meeting materials, I also created a District Brochure for our wonderful new International Trustee, Abigail Choi! District Webmaster Samantha and I have been reviewing the Lieutenant Governor’s newsletters before they send them out on the first of every month. Alongside all of this, I have been attending our biweekly Exec and Admin meetings, where we all update each other and talk about what needs to be done to keep the Indiana District running smoothly. In my personal life, my senior soccer season has been doing great and I have began applying to colleges for next fall!

7

District Webmaster - Samantha Bunag

Hello Indiana District! My schedule has gotten a lot busier ever since school has been in session. Among biweekly Exec and Admin meetings, posting every day on social media, and volunteering at Kiwanis events, I have been keeping up with soccer and a LOT of AP classes. The main objective I have focused on since the last Key News Issue is updating and organizing the district website. I schedule various meetings with corresponding Lieutenant Governors to incorporate their projects into their respective committees.

Because of this, I was able to add the Member Recognition Program, create a Kiwanis Family tab, update our Vision Partners, and add a Youth Opportunities Fund tab. Another big aspect that I felt was important when maintaining the website was to organize all the tabs and make sure that information for our district events was up to date. I did this by creating an International events tab where I added everything that occurred at ICON 2023 and updated the Key Leader information for this year. During our August Board Meeting, I was able to make more Hoosier graphics that can be used as we transition into the fall months and make more social media posts recapping what happened. Other than constantly posting on all social media, I have also reviewed LtG newsletters each month, and I am glad that Indiana has implemented a new checklist that has improved the quality of newsletters and minimized mistakes as a whole. We are halfway there Indiana, I can't wait for Key Leader, Fall Rally, and DLC.

Service is without a doubt one of the most important factors of Key Club. We pride ourselves on our ability to put others before ourselves and serve our communities proudly.

The Indiana District's website is the home of our new Service Project Directory, where Key Clubbers can find a wide variety of service projects, varying in difficulty. The INDB works hard on updating this list regularly, that way there are always fun new service projects to do!

Access the Service Project Directory through THIS link, or visit inkeyonline.org.

The Service Committee has been diligently working on improving service within the Indiana District. We have been constantly revising and updating the Service Project Directory, along with promoting it to the District. Our biggest accomplishment was dividing it into two categories, Services versus Products. This makes the Directory much more manageable and easier to navigate!

We have also been reading through the Bylaws throughly in preparation for DLC!

We went to make sure that our Bylaws stay as updated and modern as possible! Our most recent accomplishment was altering the Bylaws regarding the Dress Code.

Our plans for the next few months revolve around creating new Service Projects, even branching into Sustainabilityrelated projects. Conquering Youtube is also a goal for us, as we want to bring the Service Project Directoey to various social media platforms.

If you have any unique ideas for Service Projects or questions regarding the Service Committee , please email me at collegiateltg.kci@gmail.com.

District Initiatives is growing steadily. We are proud to share our first project with you and the district! This is our DART program. DART stands for DIstrict Actionable Recruitment and is a scholarship that aims to bring Key Clubbers from less active areas closer to the district! It brings Key Club's core value of inclusivity to the forefront as we try to provide a seat at the table for everyone. Additionally, we are in the next steps of creating our district store!

Not before long, the Indiana District will have our very own merch, so be on the lookout for the chance to get new Key Club gear! Lastly, we are working on our Pen Pal program, linked HERE! We have gotten many responses and are beginning to pair and connect Key Clubbers around the state. District Initiatives has been and will continue to work hard serving you!

Hello everyone! The Member Development Committee has been trying to accomplish great things these past few months. Our chartering and reactivation chair, Mahlia S. has been working hard to keep up with the schools that are interested in chartering/reactivating, as well as making slideshows to help with the process. Our Member Recognition Chair, Gabriella A. has been working hard to keep up with the Member Recognition Program and finding new ways to engage members!

Our Club Resources Chair, Penelope J. has been updating the Key Resources Google Drive (which you all should definitely utilize), and making new resources for you all to use! I have been trying to revive the LTG Table Talk Series (you can actually watch the first table talk on the district YouTube, made by the Arrowhead LTG, Gage Gonzales), as well as scheduling meetings with the rest of the MD committee. Our main goal is to expand Key Club, and engage our current members! If you would like to help us out please reach out to the Calumet LTG, Andrew Julian! THANK YOU!

The Kiwanis Family and Connections Committee has been doing a lot of work behind the scenes! In Quarter 2, we worked on updating Kiwanis tabs on the website, wrote an excerpt including a June Work Day and Q2 recap (sent it to Kiwanis and Circle K Governors), made connections with Key Club ´ s preferred programs and partners, and even came up with Tiktok ideas! We were able to allow any and all Key Clubbers a chance to attend ´ Kiwanis DLC ´ or DCON (Kiwanis Indiana District Convention) via Zoom!

They were able to listen in during lunch on Kiwanis Governor Bruce ´ s lunch speech, Key Club Governor Paige ´ s speech, and the donations that were made. In Quarter 3, we hope to offer another Zoom meeting for Key Clubbers and other branches of the KFAM to attend. We hope to inform people of the importance and major differences and similarities of the branches.

August board recap! August board recap! August board recap!

The Indiana District Board met in Indianapolis on August 26th-2 for their August Board Meeting! At this meeting, every Lieutena Governor and Executive Board member gave an update on ho they’ve been doing with their Key Club work and shared a bit ab their personal life. Committees had plenty of time to work together inperson, which was very productive! There were also other refreshing activities such as writing letters to schools without Key Clubs, and even writing letters to their future selves that will given back to them at DLC 2024! The INDB also had a Zoom call with 2023-2024 International Trustee Abigail Choi, International Vice President Maria Wheeler, and even the Indiana District Circle K Governor! Overall, the meeting was very successful and productive.

“Hello! My name is Paige Hein and I am honored to serve as the Indiana District Governor of Key Club International during the 2023-2024 service year. I am excited to announce my Governor's Project is an online fundraiser and service challenge dedicated to environmental sustainability! The Indiana District has from now until the end of the 2024 District Leadership Convention (March 3rd, 2024) to reach our goal of $2,500 raised and 750 sustainable service hours completed. This fundraiser will be providing vital support to the youth programs of the organization Earth Charter Indiana, a chapter of Earth Charter International, which is guided by the principles of the Earth Charter declaration at the Peace Place in The Hague, Netherlands, in 2000. The principles of the Earth Charter are as follows:

1) Respect and care for the community of life

2) Ecological integrity

3) Social and economic justice

4) Democracy, non-violence, and peace

Through Earth Charter Indiana's (ECI) youth programs, school programs, community programs and more, they create intergenerational action and education in the face of our climate crisis, mitigate the effects of climate change, and promote sustainable, peaceful, and just living in Indiana. ECI is a non-profit with 501(c)(3) status, so all donations are tax-deductible! Please keep your email donation receipt as your official record to claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes. Along with your donation being tax-deductible, you have the opportunity to sponsor at the levels listed on the next page to receive additional benefits (although any donation amount is greatly appreciated):

District pairing District pairing District pairing

District Pairings are the assigned district groupings that International Trustees oversee. Ours includes the Montana District and the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District.

20

What is an What is an What is an international trustee? international trustee? international trustee?

You’ve heard of Presidents, Governors, and Lieutenant Governors, but have you heard of International Trustees?

International Trustees are similar to Lieutenant Governors, but on the international level. Where Lieutenant Governors oversee a division that consists of multiple clubs, International Trustees oversee a District Pairing that consists of multiple districts. Trustees are there to provide aid to anything that pertains to the international level. International Trustees also serve on an International Committee.

In order to ensure that Key Club International is functioning to the best of its ability, the Districts of KCI are split into District Pairings, which are effectively ran by Trustees.

Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership—it comes from helping others succeed.

Participants begin by attending a Key Leader conference, which is a weekend retreat. Large and small group workshops, discussions and teambuilding activities take place over the course of the weekend. Students have opportunities to learn leadership skills that will help them to change their schools, communities, and world for the better. While exploring leadership in a whole new way, participants will make amazing new friends and have experiences they will never forget. Positive, ongoing interaction with other Key Leader graduates offers continuing reinforcement, encouragement and growth of leadership skills.

Attendance is REQUIRED for the entire event.
