Message from the Co-Founder & CEO

Some months ago, Co-Founder Kirkland Tibbels came to me and said, "You know, there's an aspect of Activity that I held off including when we first described transactions Hannah Arendt wrote about Play in The Human Condition, and I wasn't ready to include it (I think many of us were still getting our heads around labor as 'not a bad thing'). I'm now ready. It's time we amend the narrative of Fulfill to include the activity of Play

I had two simultaneous reactions: The first was like my inner child being released for summer break The second was recognizing my death grip on portraying myself as a serious grownup

The Midyear Summit will unlock a world of opportunities! We've crafted an experience packed with value designed to connect the dots between the Current, great storytelling, and play. This is your chance to get trained and developed while connecting with like-minded individuals who share your ambition for business results, creativity, and innovation.

We've created an environment that encourages freedom, play, and practice in whole new ways Imagine unleashing your imagination, exploring new ideas, and collective creation with others in a space that's designed to bring out the best in you

Play Matters

Hannah Arendt believed that play was an essential part of human activity, and she described it as a way for individuals to experience freedom and creativity. In her book "The Human Condition," she argues that play is distinct from other forms of activity because it is done for its own sake rather than for any practical purpose.

Arendt believed that play is a way for humans to create new possibilities and explore new ideas. She saw play as a form of "world-building," where individuals imagine rules, fictitious worlds, and structures that allow them to explore new ways of shaping the world. According to Arendt, play is a way for individuals to escape the confines of their daily lives and experience a sense of liberation and freedom.

Furthermore, Arendt also argued that play is a necessary part of public life. She believed that for individuals to engage in political action, they must first learn to engage in playful activities that encourage imagination and creativity In this sense, play is a way for individuals to build the skills and capacities they need to participate fully in public life.

Overall, Arendt viewed play as an essential part of human activity, one that allows individuals to experience freedom, creativity, and the possibility of imagining and building new worlds. We agree.

World-Building Unleashing The Power Of Play

Hannah Arendt, a prominent political philosopher of the 20th century, explored the significance of play and world-building in her philosophical works. She emphasized several key concepts that highlight the transformative potential of imagination, storytelling, collective creation, and the power of human activity in shaping the world.

Imagination: Arendt believed that imagination plays a crucial role in human experience It allows us to envision alternative possibilities, go beyond the limitations of the present, and conceive new ideas and perspectives. Imagination enables us to break free from the constraints of reality and explore different narratives and potential futures.

Storytelling: Arendt recognized the power of storytelling as a means of human expression and understanding Through storytelling, we can give shape and meaning to our experiences, connect with others, and transmit knowledge and values across generations. Stories have the capacity to inspire, challenge, and engage us emotionally and intellectually, shaping our understanding of the world and our place within it.

Collective Creation: Arendt emphasized the importance of collective creation and collaboration She believed that the process of building and shaping the world should involve collective efforts, where individuals come together to contribute their diverse perspectives, skills, and ideas. Collective creation encourages dialogue, exchange, and the cultivation of shared meanings, leading to a richer and more inclusive world.

Human Action: Arendt argued that human action holds transformative power By engaging in meaningful activities and taking initiative, individuals have the capacity to shape the world around them. Human action is not only about individual agency but also about the potential for collective action and participation. Arendt believed that the exercise of power and the creation of new possibilities are intertwined with our ability to act in the public realm.

Overall, Arendt's philosophy on PLAY and world-building underscores the importance of imagination, storytelling, collective creation, and human activity in shaping our understanding of the world and influencing its trajectory. It invites us to embrace our creative potential, engage in dialogue and collaboration, and recognize the profound impact our actions can have on the shared human experience.

World-Building Fictitious Worlds

Fictional worlds extend far beyond pop culture phenomena like Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Marvel. In fact, fiction in its various forms has been used for centuries to explore the human condition, societal norms, and a myriad of hypothetical situations. These more mainstream or literary examples often profoundly impact our understanding of the world and ourselves Here are a few examples:

Literary Fiction: Books like "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, "1984" by George Orwell, or "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen each create unique fictional worlds that have had significant impacts on society. These novels bring to light issues of racial inequality, dystopian futures, or social norms and gender roles, all within an engaging story.

Historical Fiction: This genre creates a fictional world within a historical context, often helping us understand past events and cultures in a more personal and engaging way. For instance, Hilary Mantel's "Wolf Hall" series brings the court of Henry VIII to life, and "All the Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr paints a picture of life during World War II.

Religious Texts: Some of the most influential fictional worlds have been religious allegories, such as Dante's "Divine Comedy," John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress," or C.S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia." These texts often use their fictional worlds as metaphors for moral and spiritual truths.

Philosophical Fiction: This type of fiction, like "Sophie's World" by Jostein Gaarder or "The Stranger" by Albert Camus, presents philosophical concepts within the context of a fictional world or narrative They can profoundly impact how we view existence, morality, and personal identity

Drama and Theatre: Plays also create fictional worlds that can influence society. Consider "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller or "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams. Their explorations of the American Dream and societal pressures have had a lasting impact.

Poetry: Poetry often creates brief but profound fictional worlds that explore human emotion, nature, and experience. The works of poets like Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, or Rumi have transcended time and culture.

Children's Literature: Even books for younger audiences can have a significant societal impact. A.A. Milne's "Winnie-the-Pooh" or Dr. Seuss's many works not only entertain but also impart lessons about friendship, respect, and imagination.
