ndia has urged for “global action” to align with the ambitious commitments made in the Pact for the Future by world leaders to combat terrorism. During a recent address, India’s Permanent Representative P. Harish emphasized the need for unified efforts against terrorism, which he noted remains a significant threat to global peace. He stressed that new conflict areas, such as cyber and maritime, require urgent attention. The Pact for the Future reaffirms that all terrorist acts are criminal, countering attempts by some nations to mischaracterize terrorists as “freedom fighters.” Harish highlighted India’s active role in shaping the Pact, advocating for human welfare and sustainable development while criticizing the lack of progress on UN Security Council reforms. He called for greater representation of developing nations in international governance and addressed the ongoing debt challenges they face. Harish concluded by linking India’s vision for development by 2047 with the principles outlined in the Pact, urging for a more inclusive global financial system.

n a significant political shift, the National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance emerged victorious in Jammu and Kashmir’s assembly polls, marking the first elections in the region in a decade. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated a historic third-term victory in Haryana, defying exit poll predictions. The counting on October 8 revealed that the BJP secured a clear majority in Haryana, breaking a precedent as no party had previously formed a government for three consecutive terms in the state. This victory is seen as a crucial rebound for the BJP, especially after its underwhelming performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The win also challenges the Congress’s narrative of a revival, which had gained traction following the Lok Sabha results.
