An Update from the Chief Executive Team

Dear all,

We know that Friday’s news will have for many of you come as a surprise

After 8 years of leadership, Martin Dorchester stood down on unforeseen health grounds which unfortunately brought his preannounced departure date significantly forward.

Under Martin’s leadership, includem expanded our support to reach more children, young people and families across Scotland as well as the reputation as a highly dependable and extremely effective organisation.

Martin will be missed, and we want to thank him for all his support, leadership and friendship over the last 8 years. We wish him well in both his recovery and for the future.

Be assured, in the interim the Chief Executive Team will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of the organisation The Board are fully engaged and committed to maintaining operational continuity and supporting includem’s staff team during this period.

Recruitment for Martin’s successor has begun and we will provide more information on this process when we can.

We would like to thank you all for your continued hard work in supporting children, young people and families.

Best,

We have been successful in our bid to deliver the Bairns Hoose therapeutic recovery service in West Dunbartonshire and Argyll & Bute!

The Bairns Hoose model brings together support from health, social work, justice, and recovery services under one roof, ensuring that children and young people who have experienced trauma receive the care they need in a safe and supportive environment.

This 12-month pilot will allow us to shape and deliver that support across both local authority areas, working closely with partners to make sure the service reflects local needs. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be meeting with colleagues in social work and health to plan the next steps, with the aim of launching the service early in the new year.

It’s a brilliant opportunity for includem to build on our experience in therapeutic recovery and make a real difference for children and families in these communities.

We are really excited to share that a motion has been officially lodged in the Scottish Parliament celebrating 25 years of includem.

The motion, submitted by Maggie Chapman MSP, recognises includem’s work supporting children, young people and families across Scotland, and highlights our impact in areas including mental health, education, housing and youth justice.

It commends our relationship-based approach, our A Better Life toolkit, which supports families facing challenges such as poverty, trauma, and exclusion.

Last week we spent 3 days at the Scottish Parliament where we had an exhibition stall sponsored by Marie McNair MSP (Clydebank & Milngavie).

We had great discussions about the work includem is doing across the country with MSPs from Ayr to Caithness, and across different parties.

We were pleased to get a chance to see some of our staunch supporters including Pam Duncan-Glancy, and Natalie Don-Innes (Minister for Children, Young People and Keeping the Promise), and we were delighted to share our Housing report with the Cabinet Secretary for Housing, Mairi McAllan.

This was a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of includem and tell MSPs about our work what amazing support you provide to children, young people, and families.

Have a look at our Social Media channels to see photos from the exhibition.
