includem at the SNP conference

includem joined with partners of the End Child Poverty Coalition in Scotland to host a fringe event at the SNP annual conference in Aberdeen.

Political parties host annual conferences once a year. Fringe events are meetings that take place alongside the conference and are a chance for charities and campaigners to talk directly to politicians and influence their thinking and decision-making.

Our event “The Scotland that is possible: eradicating child poverty” focused on what more needs to be done by the Scottish Government to tackle child poverty and meet the child poverty targets by 2030.

SCOTLAND DECIDES 2026

Next year, people all across Scotland aged 16+ will get a chance to vote in the Scottish Parliament election. The Scottish Parliament is where big decisions are made about the things that affect all of us every day–like schools, mental health support, housing, transport and family support.

Those who are voted in are called Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs). MSPs speak up for their communities and help decide how money is spent and what laws are made in Scotland.

When you vote, you’re helping choose who represents you and the kind of Scotland you want to live in.

Voting is one of the main ways we can have a say in the future–and make sure those in charge listen to young people and families.

INCLUDEM UPDATES

North Lanarkshire

We have started an exciting new service in North Lanarkshire, supporting young people who are not in education or work. This service is specifically for young people who are at the starting point of their employability journey.

This service is focused on supporting young people to build confidence and routines. Includem workers also help young people figure out what is getting in the way of working or training, and help young people with other practical things like housing support, benefits advice or linking them into other local services

If you are in North Lanarkshire, you can find out more about the service here.

Includem’s Youth Inspire Group is made up of young people aged 14 – 26 who have previously been supported by includem. The group helps to make sure that young people’s voices and experiences are part of everything includem does

In the last few months, the Youth Inspire Group have met with Jane Muir from the Scottish Social Services Council to share their lived experiences of care and services. This was part of the work the Scottish Social Services Council are doing to develop new qualifications for the social care sector

The group also met with Iain Forbes OBE, the Chair of includem’s Board to tell him more about the work they have been doing and how the Board can continue to support the Youth Inspire Group

During the summer months, the YIG designed and delivered a Family Funding project. Families supported by includem were encouraged to apply for funding for special occasions or experiences. As part of this work the group designed the application, the assessment criteria, and made the final decision about how the money was spent.
