• All electrical work will be carried out only by licensed or registered electrical workers.

• Ensure that safety switch is provided on switchboard, and check operation before connecting leads to board. Provide portable safety switch if RCD is not supplied on switchboard.

• All electrical installations must be treated as “live” until isolation of the installation or circuit is tested and verified as “dead” by a licensed electrician.

• Note: closure of main switch will not be effective in cases where an addition supply of power may be present (e.g., supply from and adjoining property, solar panels, etc.)

• Do not attempt to carry out work involving electrical fittings or installations until specific circuit is verified as de-energised.

• All electric tools and equipment will be inspected, tested and tagged every 3 months. Inspect tools and check operation of controls daily before use. Faulty electric tools will not be used.

• Keep electric leads off ground to protect from damage.

• Visually inspect tools and cutters, drill bits, grinding discs, etc. for wear or damage before use. Do not use faulty or damaged tools.

• Wear eye protection when using power tools. Wear hearing protection id harmful noise levels will be generated. Wear respiratory protection (e.g., P1 particulate dust mask) when sanding or grinding.

• Provide safe means of transporting and moving loads on site to minimise manual movement of heavy items

• Provide safe means of access to and for working at heights and where a person may fall from one level to another.

• Ladders are to be an industrial type with a 120kg rating. Domestic ladders must not be use in a workplace.

• Single and extension ladders should be used for access only except for light work which can be carried out with one hand. Ladders should extend 1 metre above level being accessed and be secured against movement.

• Stepladders must be opened fully and braces locked in position before use. All feet must be in contact with a firm, stable surface. All tread surfaces must be clean and dry. Do not work from the top two steps of a stepladder.

• Folding portable work platforms must be opened fully and braces locked in position before use. All feet must be in contact with a firm, stable surface. All treads and platform surfaces must be clean and dry.

• Inspect surfaces to be painted to determine if asbestos products or lead-based paint may be present. Do not disturb the material until the presence or otherwise of the suspected substance is verified.

• Check for presence of lead-based paint in older premises. Have sample tested if in doubt.

• Avoid breathing dust when removing old paint from surfaces. Use sanding equipment fitted with dust collectors to reduce spread of dust. Wear eye and hearing protection when using powered sanders.

• Wear P1 particulate dust mask when sanding non-hazardous materials, or P2 particulate dust mask if hazardous materials are being disturbed or released.

• Prevent spread of dust generated during sanding to adjoining areas or neighbouring premises.

• Ensure adequate ventilation when applying all types of paints and coatings. Provide good ventilation to remove solvent vapours from area when applying solvent-based paints. Avoid spread of vapours to other areas.

• Avoid contact with skin and eyes when applying paints and coatings. Wash hands before eating, drinking or using the toilet.

• Provide dust control where dust generated during work could spread to adjoining areas. Sweep up dust and vacuum area to remove dust. Wipe down wails and surfaces with damp cloth before vacating area.

• Limit use of noise generating tools where possible. Advice occupants of level of noise and estimated duration prior to commencing. Provide hearing protection to occupants and instruct in use if hazardous noise will be generated while premises are occupied.

• Use non-hazardous chemicals where practicable.

• Ensure good ventilation in areas where volatile chemicals are used. Minimise spread of vapours to adjoining areas. Eliminate ignition sources where flammable vapours may be present. Do not allow smoking or ignition sources while chemicals are being used.

• Prevent access into areas where hazardous materials (e.g., asbestos, synthetic mineral fibres, etc.) may be present.

• Ensure that areas are decontaminated and cleaned thoroughly before allowing re-entry or re-occupancy of the area.

• Ensure that any trip hazards are removed before allowing re-entry into work areas. Do not run power leads across floors, and tape down or place covers over leads if unavoidable.

• Do not leave tools, materials or equipment in areas where they could be accessed by persons at risk. Secure area where risks are present when area is unattended. Return all areas where occupation will occur to a safe condition at completion of work.

• Keep vehicles locked to prevent access by children or other at-risk persons.

• Remove keys from plant and ensure that it cannot be moved if left unattended. Ensure that buckets, etc., are on ground and crowded to minimise contact.

• Ensure that all materials are stored in a manner to prevent access to hazardous substances, rough or sharp edges, or falling objects. Securely cover materials where practicable.
