It should be no surprise that Charleston International Airport is susceptible to risks of many different types To minimize the risk to people and property, Tyler Welch, CCAA’s new risk and safety manager, has been tasked with developing an integrated risk management approach to identify, evaluate, and mitigate recognized and potential hazards associated with our employees, vendors, tenants, and citizens, promote safety, and protect organizational assets.
To be successful, ongoing employee participation from all areas of employment and departments is needed If you see hazards, do not wait! Notify your supervisor, risk/safety team, or HR Postponement in reporting could result in serious injuries. Worker participation is key!

Recently several employees were recognized for their outstanding contribution at CCAA. Thanks to those who nominated these employees. Team
Employee of the Quarter The Employee of the Quarter for 2022 went to curbside supervisor Richard “Rick” Smith. You can find Rick hard at work when walking along the front curb. He monitors the traffic and provides safety to those crossing the walkways. Rick was nominated by a passenger having car trouble Instead of telling them to call a tow truck, Rick assisted the passenger by going to his own vehicle and getting the tools needed to help. The passenger eagerly wrote a letter about their experience The hard work of our Maintenance Technicians was also brought to our attention We see them flying around the airport from one area to the other, and their willingness to go above and beyond did not go unnoticed. On more than one occasion during August, they and additional employees had to process bags by hand due to an equipment breakdown.
In spite of the challenge, these employees attended and successfully completed the jet bridge training, remained focus while doing their daily job duties and worked overtime to keep the airport operating. These tasks don’t seem like much, but these employees work hard even when they are short staffed to ensure the safety of our customers, passengers, and staff. Debra Wood, a Guest Services Specialist, has also been recognized for her tremendous work this summer. Debra has stepped into the role of interim supervisor of our Guest Services desk, leads the Paws for Take Off program, and leads set up for events and board meetings. Debra embodies the passenger experience and we are very grateful. These employees deserve a round of applause for their work over the last quarter They are truly appreciated and deserving of the recognition.
