Halloween for me normally means last minute costume buying for the kids. I’m pretty unless at organising things like that in advance!

I’m always seeing the same costumes in the shops. Skeleton, ghost, zombie bride... and these are the “scary ones”. A few years ago we decided that actually a store bought costume is far too cold to wear without a coat and when you trick or treat no one will see it!

I’ve dabbled in face painting before for events but that’s your usual butterfly, rainbow etc. So the last few years we’ve been painting our own faces and we only having that instead of a full on costume. I’ve provided some photos of mine!

Another tradition for us is of course the good old family pumpkin carving session. Although the children struggle with the actual carving, I get them to draw the design onto the pumpkin and I do the cutting. I also use every bit of the pumpkin afterwards!

Pumpkin soup is life!

I will still be carving a pumpkin and leaving it on the doorstep. A few locals have put together a safe event for all to enjoy. Instead of handing out sweets and knocking on doors the villagers are coming together to create a pumpkin trail for the children to follow and spot! Although this year we aren’t celebrating in our usual way of trick or treating with all the neighbourhood kids. (The children will be away on holiday, hopefully!)
