† ACKERSON Birds chirping and flitting from cattail to cattail, the rustling of maple leaves as the squirrels dig for their dinner, a family of whitetail navigate the swamp as ducks fly overhead towards the lake just off his property. Ron loved nature, hiking Isle Royale and coming face to face with a mother moose and her calf. He loved to scour the woods for morel mushrooms every spring, explore the woods with his beagles, and the trickle of maple sap as it hit the buckets of his father’s (and then his brother Larry’s) sugar bush. He enjoyed his hunting trips in which he would continually let the deer walk on by to share the thrill of the hunt with his hunting apprentices, Nick, Eric, Derek, and Tyron. Ron continually worked towards bettering his life and cared deeply about those around him. He would roar like a lion to put a smile on the faces of little ones, laugh at himself, was a patient listener and accepting of anyone. He was a compassionate individual to his core.
Ronald Earl Ackerson was born September 8, 1949, enroute to St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, Michigan to Allyn Jay Ackerson and Margaret Ellen Shilton. He grew up on their dairy farm in Sunfield, graduated from Portland High School in 1967 where he played football, participated in Golden Gloves boxing, and played the coronet. He retired from Gestamp Mason LLC as a tool and dye repairman in 2020.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, twin sons Jeremy and Eric, brother Larry and sisterin-law Sharon. He leaves behind his wife Cindy, children Christine Spohr (Steven), Nicholas (Sara), Nathan (Karina), and Christopher Bennett (Jennifer), grandchildren Ashley Tupper (Chad), Eric Spohr (Tonian), Dylan Spohr, Elijah, Gideon, Rayneh, Emma and Holly and great grandchildren Ali, Zoie, Harper, Evalynn, Juliette, Cayson, Kingston, and great-great grandson Rylan. He also loved his many nieces and nephews, brother John and sisters Patti Weller (Bill) Norma Russell (Grant) and Vicki Pontz (Rob Winkelman).
Ron and his wife Cindy attended Dexter Lake Church in Battle Creek and had hiked over 2000 miles on the North Country Trail with their dogs Emily and Selkie. They enjoyed attending sports and school events of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ron died January 23 doing something he loved, walking their 10-acre retirement property in Marshall.

IONIA, MI – Sparrow Ionia Hospital recently honored two caregivers and the hospital’s highly skilled surgical team for their dedication and compassionate care for patients and caregivers.
Emergency Department Nurse Lois Wilber, RN, was named DAISY Award honoree based on a patient nomination for her compassion and cheerful personality during the patient’s recent stay. Wilber has worked at Sparrow Ionia since 1981.
“Lois is a very hard-working, compassionate, and dedicated nurse,” said Sparrow Ionia Hospital Emergency Department Manager Tara Lanz, MSN, RN. “She is a true patient advocate, ensuring that we are providing the highest level of care possible. Nurses, like Lois, are hard to find and we are lucky enough to have her on our team, caring for our community.”
Sparrow Ionia Surgical caregivers received a DAISY Team Award after being nominated by a patient who indicated the team “saved my life.” The patient was scheduled for a routine gall bladder removal that became a more serious condition.
“This award recognizes the idea ‘to achieve better outcomes may start with an individual, but it takes a team to implement successfully,’” said Steve Dexter, MSN, RN, CNRN, Sparrow Ionia’s Director of Operations. “Our surgical team, without a doubt, is exemplary in regard to their quick thinking, commitment to safety, and compassionate and effective care.”
Nominated by fellow caregivers, Food and Nutrition Services caregiver Billie Jo Ostrander received the BEE Award for demonstrating exceptional care to patients and caregivers. Ostrander has worked
at Sparrow Ionia since 2014.
“Billie Jo exemplifies excellence daily as the foundation of helping others,” said Dexter. “She follows timeless principles of compassion – including honesty, integrity, and treating others with respect – to create a meaningful environment for our patients and our caregivers, every time.”
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate, and skillful care given by nurses every day. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Award is a national program created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died in 1999 of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura, or ITP, at age 33. His family was overwhelmed by the skillful and compassionate nurses who cared for him, and the DAISY Foundation and award were created as an expression of their gratitude.
The BEE Award recognizes excellence among the clinical support caregivers who work alongside nursing teams to deliver quality, compassionate care. BEE is an acronym for Be Exceptional Every day. Acknowledging the strength behind teamwork, the BEE Award is given in conjunction with the DAISY Award to symbolize the relationship between nursing and clinical support caregiversthe same way bees and flowers depend on one another.

12. TOWNSHIP BOARD REVIEW. Section 12 of the Ordinance provides license application evaluation procedures and standards for the review of applications, including whether the location, use or nature would be in conflict with prevailing land uses in the area, whether the operation would result in serious adverse effects upon adjacent or nearby properties, whether the operation would discourage or hinder development and use of adjacent or nearby properties, whether the operation would create a traffic problem or hazard, and any other factors relevant to the health, safety and welfare of the Township and adjoining and nearby property owners.

around doing taxes, while another 22% said their biggest fear is making a mistake.
“Many Americans rely on their tax refund to make ends meet. Accessing those funds should be fast and easy,” says Chad Prashad, president and CEO of World Finance.
To help you get a handle on your taxes, World Finance is drawing on its 26 years of filing expertise to offer these timely tips:
• GET READY EARLY. As soon as your employer provides your W2, you can file your taxes. Having all other documentation and receipts ready to go will help expedite the process, which means you will get your tax return faster, too. Collect the necessary materials in one place before filing.
• CONSIDER SIGNIFICANT LIFE CHANGES. Did you move in 2022? Have a baby? Get married? Change jobs? Each of these monumental life events can have an impact on your taxes, so be sure to disclose these factors when filing or to the professional filing on your behalf.
• KNOW WHAT’S NEW. Visit IRS.gov to learn about any changes to tax filings that are applicable to you. A tax services professional can also help you identify relevant updates. World Finance tax pros have year-round training to stay on top of the latest tax filing requirements and are ready to tailor tax services to each tax customer’s financial situation.
• REVIEW AND ADJUST. Once you know what your return is going to be this year, make any necessary adjustments to your W2 to make sure you’re withholding enough during the year. If this is your first year working with a professional tax service, have them review your previous years’ filings as well. You may be able to recover additional refunds if anything was missed. World Finance offers this service for no additional charge.
• CONSIDER A TAX REFUND LOAN. After filing, you can potentially take out a loan for the amount of your expected refund. This is known as a tax refund loan and an option to consider if you need your refund as soon as possible.
• WORK WITH A PROFESSIONAL. Filing your taxes with a software program is a low-cost option, but only if you have time to dedicate to the task, and the know-how to get your biggest possible tax return. Working with a re-
