† BARTOSH Mayeillieen Joyce Bartosh age 88 of Saranac passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023. She was born on March 6, 1935 in Ionia the daughter of John and Ethel (Conner) Waldron.

Mayeillieen married Robert A Bartosh on February 25, 1956 in Saranac. He passed away April 14, 1999. She attended Ionia First United Methodist Church. She loved going for breakfast at Vivian’s and later at Sheri’s restaurant. She also loved doing ceramics, gardening and collecting hummingbirds. Mayeillieen was very active with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, Larry (Monique) Bartosh of Lyons, David Bartosh (Cheryl Misner) of Clarksville, Darlene (Terry) Roberts of Houghton Lake, Dale (Joan) Bartosh of Tampa FL and Diana Whitelock (Jim Neihoff) of Rockford. Grandchildren, Larry (Erin) Meyers, Cory Bartosh (Elizabeth), Aubrey (Ryan) Mason, Logan Bartosh, David (Nicole) Bartosh, Adam Bartosh, Anthony (Alisa) Rodriguez, Rebecca (Ben) Lemley, Debi (Shawn) Beerens, Jessica (Jeremy) Hines, Ben Bartosh (Kayla) Stacy (Josh) McKinch, Stephanie Whitelock and Ryan Whitelock. Great Grandchildren, Sam, Cody, Cameron, Mary, David, Liberty, Dayton, Aaliyah, Addison, Kai, Conner, Kamryn, Teddy, Riley, Hannah, Herman, Laurdean, Cameron, Contessa, Kalli, Bryn, Alyssa Bishop (Noah Porter) and Zailee. Great great grandson, Andrew and 1 great great granddaughter on the way. Brothers, Gary (Rosey) Moore of Hastings, Dan (Barb) Moore of South Carolina and Cleo “Jr.” Moore of Stanton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Cleo Moore Sr, husband Robert, siblings Charles Moore, Jim Moore, Chris Moore, Terry Moore, Kathleen Thomas, Charlotte Jobin, Thelma Conant and son in law Thomas Whitelock.

Funeral services will be held at Saranac Community Church on Friday, October 20th @11:00 AM. Interment Saranac Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, October 19th from 4:00-7:00 PM at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Mayeillieen’s name to Isaac’s Food Closet. Online condolences may be made at www.lakefuneralhomes.com † EAVEY Lonnis Myles Eavey age 72 of Muir, MI passed away Friday, October 13, 2023. He was born on July 31, 1951, in Ionia the son of Arther and Maxine (Miller) Eavey.

Lonnis loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, boating, gardening, and playing solitaire. He was a volunteer for the Lyons-Muir fire department and worked for the village doing maintenance. Lonnis played the drums for multiple bands, Road Show, Desperato’s, Southern Spice and Loui Loui. He also loved trains, tractors, motorcycles, and RC planes.

He is survived by his children, Lonnis Eavey of Muir, Holly (Jimmy) Clack of Stanwood, Candis Eavey of Ionia, Nikole (John) Heath of Vestaburg, Amber (Thomas) Olney of Hubbardston, Navilla (Travis) Rogers of Ionia, Myles Eavey of Muir and Kenton Eavey of Muir; Grandchildren, Joan M Grahm, Amber Maxham, Stephanie Hillabrandt, Matthew Hillabrandt, Amanda Hillabrandt, Francis Moore, Alyssa VandenBrook, Christina VandenBrook, Britney VandenBrook, Machully Schafer, Bryce Eavey, Stevie Auge, Jason Frushour, Melonie Frushour, Gunner Olney, Rylynn Larkins, Lanie Larkins, Arianna Hattis, Peyton Heath, Logan Olney, December Wyatt, Carley Wyatt, Travis Wyatt, Beau Rogers, Emily Wyatt, Veer’ah Heath and Zackary Larkins; Great grandchildren, Arabella Goodman, Lincoln Goodman, Phillip Clark IV, Everett VandenBrook, Kinsley Grahm, Cora Grahm, Torryn Grahm, Loralei Maxwell, James Hillabrandt and Francis Kramer; Brother, Kenton Eavey; Sisters, Lonese Conroe and Laural Kemp; First wife, Minnie Clark; Second wife, Linda Eavey and Best friend Rob Cherpes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Third wife, Janice Eavey; Brother, Dallas Eavey and Sister, Sheri Eavey.

Funeral services will be held at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia on Saturday, October 21st 12:00 PM. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services (11-12). Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.lakefuneralhomes.com

† KRZEMINSKI Raymond Joseph Krzeminski, age 95, of Portland passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. He was born on February 23, 1928 in Detroit the son of John and Casimira (Solak) Krzeminski.

Raymond attended St. Hedwig Catholic School and served as an altar boy at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Detroit Michigan. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He cared for and deeply loved his family very much. He worked for Ford Motor Co-River Rouge as a truck driver for 45 years and upon his retirement he was presented and proudly accepted an exemplary driving record award.

He spent most of his life as a farmer which became a passion he shared with his wife. Year after year he enjoyed planting corn, wheat, oats, and hay along with raising angus cattle. Raymond loved all animals, with a special fondness toward horses and in his younger years enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On October 3, 1953 he married the love of his life, Helen Psioda and together they shared 70 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Esther Nadolski, Genevieve Sheko and Emily Sheko.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Krzeminski; children, Elaine (Larry) Sandborn, Cynthia Meyers, Timothy Krzeminski, Luke Krzeminski, and Julie (John Leik) Krzeminski; grandchildren, Andrew, David (Luci) and Katrina (Robert), Sara (Robert) and Mari; 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Mary Gandreh, Tom (Donna) Krzeminski, Joseph (Elaine) Krzeminski, John (Dolores) Krzeminski and Rose De Young; several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Danby Cemetery. The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosary was prayed at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church in memory of Raymond. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com. † PIERSON Michael H Pierson, age 71, formerly of Ionia, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 from his battle with cancer at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

Mike was a 1970 graduate of Ionia High School. He started playing baseball in little league and continued playing until he was 55 years old. He loved watching sports on the TV. Mike had an avid love of music. He loved traveling around the states with friends. Mike was still working at Barnes and Noble Book Store, part time because he loved being with and helping others. He volunteered serving food to those in need every Thanksgiving and Christmas when he wasn’t with family. He was one of those people who others would say after talking with Mike, “That’s a very smart and kind man.” Mike never married and remained a bachelor his whole life.

Mourning his loss are sisters, Cindy (John) Sanderson, Peggy (Tim) Wray, Sandi Pearce, Wendi (Steve) Gross, Sheri Pearce (Scott Gorby) all of Ionia. Brother Dave (Patte) Pearce of Grand Rapids and many nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Vivian Pearce and stepdad Jack Pearce. Brothers Mark Pearce and Craig Pearce, sisters Patte Martinez and Nancy Gardner.

He is survived by his wife Carol, 5 children Michael (LaTonya) Hoort, Michele (Mark) Witbeck, Brian (Nicki) Hofkamp, Melissa (Scott) Champine, and Matthew Hofkamp, his grandchildren Christopher (Heidi), Angus (Jessica), Emily (Justin), LaTaysha (Alex), Aryn (Brandon), Anika (Katie), Megan (Robert), Stephen (Kelsey), Kaylee, Alexis, his great grandchildren Angus, LaTayana, Logan, Colton, KyeLynn, Owyn, Cora, Joey, Hudson, Valentina, Alexandria and Camden and sisters Janice DenBesten and Eileen (Henry) Hofstra.

Jim had a very strong work ethic earned growing up on his family’s dairy farm. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Jim had a knack for making friends feel like family. He loved his blended family. The word step was not in his vocabulary, all were his.

He was a skilled carpenter and was known for his wooden Christmas ornaments. Jim enjoyed playing softball, golfing, traveling and camping with his family. He loved the putt-putt sound of old John Deere tractors. He was often seen sitting on his front porch drinking a cup of coffee.

He loved the Spartans. He was a beloved member of the LeValley United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing bass in the choir.

Jim worked at the Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility for 30 years. After his retirement, he worked in the treasury office at the Ionia Free Fair for 16 years.

Jim has been cremated and there will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, Jim has requested donations be made to the Ionia FFA or LeValley United Methodist Church. Arrangements cared for

† ISZLER Maurine Fay Iszler, age 81 passed away in peace on October 11th 2023. She was born January 4, 1942 in Muskegon MI, to Maurice Charles and Jane Elizabeth(Ross) Eddy.

She is survived by her brother Rudolph (Claudia) Charles, her 5 children: Brenda Lehman, Gibson Crampton, James Iszler, Anjanette Jennings (Isaac) and Aaron Iszler, 5 grandchildren, Shannon, Jared, Teela, Avery, Alexander, and 6 great grandchildren; Tyree, Shannyn James, Sky, Bryson, Aaliyah, and Taybree. Also, nephews and a niece as well as several great and great great nephews. She was especially close to her Aunt Mary. She was a great cook, loved all types of music, loved to dance and was quite the “card shark”. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and loved sharing the Bible’s message with all who would listen for over 45 years. She loved her “congregation family” in Ionia, as well as her extended new family in Tennessee where she was currently residing. Known as Gram to the grandchildren and recently called Meme by the great grandchildren; they brought her much joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew Patrick.

Maurine died confident of a future hope for those who have fallen asleep in death. She wanted all who knew and loved her to learn of that beautiful promise, so that we would not be swallowed up by grief. She would be so pleased if we entertained happy memories and drew comfort from each other in our loss. A memorial service will be held via video conference on October 28th, 2023 at 3pm EST. Rep. Johnsen, Sen. Lindsey legislation would make Michigan a Second Amendment sanctuary state State Rep. Gina Johnsen (R-Lake Odessa) and Sen. Jonathan Lindsey (R-Allen) have introduced bicameral legislation to preserve the Second Amendment rights of Michiganders.

House Bill 5132 and Senate Bill 584 would make Michigan a Second Amendment sanctuary state, meaning state law prohibits the enforcement of gun control measures that violate the Second Amendment rights of its citizens. The legislators pointed to examples such as universal background checks, red flag laws and other laws that make lawful gun ownership more difficult and lack proof of effectiveness in preventing acts of violence.

“My constituents sent me to Lansing to stand up for their rights, and that’s exactly what this legislation does,” Johnsen said. “Our Second Amendment is an integral part of our right to personal protection in the U.S., but those rights are being slowly chipped away. My Republican colleagues

and I are doing all we can to get in the way of that.”

“I am always proud to stand up for the Second Amendment,” Lindsey said. “Now, more than ever, we need bold action to preserve our rights.”

Johnsen has actively defended the rights of lawful gun owners since taking office in January. Earlier this term, she introduced a bill to establish the Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act, which would prohibit banks and credit card companies from requiring Michigan retailers to use specialized codes to flag firearms purchases, and another bill that would allow CPL holders to carry their firearms on college campuses throughout Michigan.

Both bills have yet to be brought up for consideration by the majority.

Lindsey has also been an avid supporter of the Second Amendment. He helped spearhead a bill package earlier this year that would bring constitutional carry to Michigan.

The proposals introduced today by Johnsen and Lindsey were referred to the House Judiciary Committee and the Senate Civil Rights, Judiciary and Public Safety Committee, respectively.
