Sparrow Ionia Emergency Department celebrates national recognition for patient satisfaction
IONIA, MI – Sparrow Ionia Hospital is celebrating its national recognition for a top score in patient satisfaction, fueled by its leading-edge medicine and highly skilled physicians.
The Sparrow Ionia Emergency Department received a four-star Excellence in Healthcare award from Professional Research Consultants, Inc. in recognition of scores in the top 25 percent nationally for “Overall Quality of Care.” The PRC Excellence in Healthcare Awards are presented to organizations and individuals who have achieved top standards in patient satisfaction scores in the previous year, based on patient surveys.
The award certification commended the Sparrow Ionia team’s “commitment to excellence that makes Sparrow ’s Emergency Department a wonderful place to work, a wonderful place to practice medicine, and a wonderful place for our patients to be treated.”
“Receiving the four-star award for Overall Quality of Care demonstrates the dedication
of everyone on the care team in providing high quality, exceptional, compassionate care every patient, every time,” said Sparrow Ionia President Linda Reetz. “A visit to the Emergency Department is not a planned event and creates anxiety in patients and their families. This award validates the consistent calm and caring approach exhibited by our caregivers to alleviate fears while focusing on assessment, treatment, and exceptional quality of care.”
Said Sparrow Ionia Medical Chief of Staff Brett Reich, D.O.: "This award is recognition of the hard work our caregivers have put in over the last year to improve the quality of care and patient experience being provided at Sparrow Ionia Emergency Department. We strive to continue providing the kind of excellent care the residents of Ionia and the surrounding communities deserve." For more information about Sparrow Ionia, go to Sparrow. org/Ionia.

Pictured is Saranac's American Red Cross director, Cheryl Greiner ; Ionia High School Senior, John "Jack" McCrackin; and his father, Tim McCrackin. Tim has donated over 14 gallons of life saving blood!
Normally, if a graduating senior has donated three pints of blood or has been a volunteer for 8 hours by the time they graduate from high school, they will receive a special red tassel from the American Red Cross to wear at their graduation ceremony. Jack has donated his 7th pint of blood and received his red tassel. Congratulations, Jack! We learned that donating blood is a McCrackin family tradition...
Jack's grandfather, "Big Jack McCrackin" had donated over 22 gallons of blood in his lifetime! Our May 15 American Red Cross blood drive at St. Anthony's Church will save many lives, thanks to the 33 individuals who successfully donated blood.
Derek Morton was a first time donor, Ed Tichelaar donated his first gallon of blood; Ed Schwenke and Cheryl Greiner both received their 14 gallon pins.
Christine Parks was a Double Red Donor! Thanks to all of you! We hope the Red Cross computer system will be fully operational for our July 24 blood drive. Call 1-800-RED CROSS to schedule an appointment.
