Welcome to the eighth edition of Shoot&Coproduce, the publication to guide you through the latest success stories of the thriving film and TV industry in Catalonia. In the following pages, you will find a sample of the productions contributing to the growing international impact of Catalonia as a film hub, as well as a guide to financing your projects in Catalonia and a full directory of companies open to taking part in international projects.

The audiovisual is now a strategic sector for the Catalan Government, and the projects that will come to light in 2023 are proof of the successful strategy developed by the Catalan Institute of Cultural Companies over the last few years.

A generation of young women directors that had their first films selected in festivals in recent years will be presenting their new features to world audiences, whilst some of the production companies behind those projects have seen their new films selected at Berlin and Cannes.

The boost given to the High-End TV production fund has resulted in the selection of five TV series ready to compete in the global arena, enabling them to engage the participation of international broadcasters. TV short form is also in very good shape, and the short forms competition jury at SeriesMania awarded a Catalan production with best series in 2023.

New animation and documentary feature films with universal appeal will be released throughout the year, and for those audiences looking to explore shorter formats, the selection of the Shortcat catalogue is a window to the creativity of local talent.

International productions have continued to explore Catalonia lured by a robust local audiovisual industry that offers a wealth of highly experienced creative and technical talent, state-of-the-art equipment supplies and ancillary services ready to make the most of the rich diversity of locations at their disposal.

We invite you to browse the following pages and discover the Catalan audiovisual world.

Welcome and enjoy your visit!!!

The Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) is a public institution of the Government of Catalonia’s Ministry of Culture that looks after the development and the consolidation of the Catalan creative sectors as an uplift for its professionalization. ICEC advises and accompanies Catalan companies in their development process in several sectors such as: music, performing arts, visual arts, audiovisual, books and digital culture. It supports the film and audio-visual industry through the film fund.

Catalan Films is the programme used by ICEC for the international promotion of Catalan audiovisual industry. Catalan Films aims to increase the participation of the Catalan industry at international markets and to encourage the coproduction and distribution of Catalan projects. In addition, it also supports films and talent that have been selected to attend international festivals around the world and acts as the industry’s official representative at key festivals and markets.

The Catalunya Film Commission (CFC) is part of ICEC and the first contact point for filmmakers interested in shooting in the region. It provides guidance on accessing funds through the minority coproduction fund available to Catalan companies or via the 30% tax rebate available in Spain. It helps international companies identify potential coproduction partners and acts as a link to the local audiovisual infrastructure and to local authorities, it also offers a comprehensive database of locations and companies.
