What’s 4-H?

It is an international organization including over 7 million members in 80 countries throughout the world. For Canada, 4-H started in Roland, Manitoba. The 4-H programs available today are for both farm and non-farm youth across Canada.

Why 4-H?

4-H allows youth to experience, learn and to do lots of activities. There are many different 4-H clubs around Canada that range from taking photographs, cooking and caring for animals.

Why is it 4-H?

4-H represents the four “H”s in the pledge. We pledge our Head, Heart, Hands and Health.

To Prospective Buyers,

Welcome back to our 2024-2025 season of 4-H. This year we have 16 members in the Rivers & District 4-H Beef Club. As a Club, we had weigh day, speeches, rally day, highway cleanup and a meeting once a month either in person or via zoom. Throughout the past few months, every member has continued to work with their project animal(s) in preparation for the show and sale on Thursday, July 3rd 2025.

We are once again having the live show and sale at HTA Charolais just West of Rivers. Everyone is welcome to come support both the show and sale at the farm

4-H Beef is the cream of the crop as far as purchasing beef goes.

This is a very cost-effective way of stocking your freezer with premium beef. In comparing the cost of purchasing a 4-H beef to a whole beef from your local grocery store you can save between $2200 and $2500. Don’t miss this opportunity to stock up on quality beef while supporting these future cattle producers! Team up with another business or family. Processing can be split into halves or quarters. Not only are you supporting a local 4-H member but also the local butcher and you know you are getting the best beef money can buy!

Purchasing a 4-H steer is a very effective way to advertise your business. The 4H members make a great effort to make sure your advertising goes a long way. Sale buyers’ names are posted in several places. Buyers’ lists are reviewed with members. As a business the advertising expense is a great tax write off.

Please don’t hesitate to contact a member directly or the leaders listed below.

Hi, my name is Aysen Abey I'm 9 years old and this is my First Year in the Rivers & Area 4H Beef Club. My parents are Atlee & Candace Abey and my brother is Aklen and my sister is Cavley. I bought my first Purebred Heifer this winter and am anxiously awaiting her calf this coming winter for my first calf! I have two projects this year, my Steer Big Mac and my Heifer's name is Georgia Peach. Outside of 4-H I enjoy playing hockey and helping my dad and brother put hay up in the summer. I love animals so much I can usually tell which cow is which by just looking! This year my Steer Big Mac and I bonded over long walks on the beach (muddy pens) and lots of scratches. He is a purebred Black Angus Steer. I know he will taste absolutely delicious on the BBQ and mouth watering to top it off! Thank you to the bidders & buyers who support the 4H Beef Sales. The funds from my 4H Steer will go towards my education. If you have any questions, please contact Atlee 204-721-4465 or Candace 204-721-0665. Thank you for your support.

Hi, my name is Rhett Hunter and I am 8 years old. This is my first year in Rivers 4-H. I live near Harding on a grain and commercial cattle farm. My parent’s names are Chad and Kelly and I have two younger sisters. This year I picked out a red Simmental cross steer. I named him Texas. I also have a purebred Simmental heifer and I named her Rose. Texas has gotten better and better over this winter. The money I earn from Texas will go to add more cows to my herd. If you have any questions about my steer, please phone my dad Chad at 204-764-0047. Thank you for supporting my 4-H beef club.

This is my 4th year in the Rivers and District 4-H beef club. This year my steer’s name is Thunder. He is a home raised short horn x black angus, blue roan. At our 1st weigh day December 8th he weighed 608lbs. Thunder looks great and I guarantee the smell of his steak on the BBQ will make your stomach rumble like thunder! I look forward to seeing you at our show & sale Thursday July 3rd at HTA Charolais. If you have any questions call or text us at 204-724-5778, thank you!

Jorja Manz

Hi I’m Jorja Manz, and this is my third year in the Rivers and District 4-H beef club. I have picked another silver Charolais cross steer and I named him Chicken Wing! Chicken Wing from the start has been a quiet big baby. We have been slowly working together trying to be the best of friends. Chicken Wing loves to be a dirty boy, you get him all cleaned up and looking nice and he makes it a challenge. He rolls in whatever he can to get dirty again and mother nature has sure been helping him out! This year my steer money is going towards to help me buy the perfect red heifer that I have been wanting. Thank you to my past buyers and all the supporters! If you have any questions please call my dad Eric Hillis at (204) 761-7823

I live just outside of Rivers on a beef farm with my parents, Trevor and Amy and sisters, Austyn and Kinley. First of all, I would like to thank the bidders, buyers and sponsors from our show and sale last year. The support means a lot to us. This year I am doing a steer project again. This year his name is Vin Diesel. He is a fullblood Simmental and so far, as I write this, he has been very good to work with and is on pace to be finished by sale day. I hope you like Vin Diesel as much as I do because he will be very tasty beef for your freezer. I’m planning to take some of the money I make from my steer to upgrade my dirt bike and save the rest for culinary school someday. See you sale day!!

My steer’s name is José, and he is a Charolais X. He is a gentle giant that loves his scratches and always seems to cover my shirt in slobber. He is the best quality beef money can buy, and I guarantee he will provide a ton of beef for your table. If you have any questions, call my Dad at 1-204-724-8823 or my Mom at 1204-365-0850.
