To Prospective Buyers,
Welcome back to our 2023-2024 season of 4-H. This year we have 14 members in the Rivers & District 4-H Beef Club. As a Club, we had weigh day, speeches, rally day, highway cleanup and a meeting once a month either in person or via zoom. Throughout the past few months, every member has continued to work with their project animal(s) in preparation for the show and sale on Thursday, July 4th 2024.
We are once again having the live show and sale at HTA Charolais just West of Rivers. Everyone is welcome to come support both the show and sale at the farm.
The 2023-24 4-H season has been a very enjoyable year for all of the members.
We would like to give a huge thank you to our leaders Shannon Basaraba and Shawn Airey. We cannot thank each of you enough, not only for your commitment and support to our Club, but also to us individual members. 4-H Beef is the cream of the crop as far as purchasing beef goes.
This is a very cost-effective way of stocking your freezer with premium beef. In comparing the cost of purchasing a 4-H beef to a whole beef from your local grocery store you can save between $2200 and $2500. Don’t miss this opportunity to stock up on quality beef while supporting these future cattle producers! Team up with another business or family. Processing can be split into halves or quarters. Not only are you supporting a local 4-H member but also the local butcher and you know you are getting the best beef money can buy!
Purchasing a 4-H steer is a very effective way to advertise your business. The 4H members make a great effort to make sure your advertising goes a long way. Sale buyers’ names are posted in several places. Buyers’ lists are reviewed with members. As a business the advertising expense is a great tax write off.
Please don’t hesitate to contact a member directly or the leaders listed below.

Hi, my name is Madison Hillis. This is my third year in the Rivers and District 4-H Beef Club. I am 9 years old and in grade 4. My parents names are Richard & Shelly Hillis and my brother’s name is Nathan. This year I chose a Shorthorn and Black Angus cross steer. His name is Rocky, he is a fuzzy blue roan. He weighed 628 lbs at our first weigh day on December 3rd. Rocky looks great and I’m sure he will rock on someone’s BBQ! We look forward to seeing you at our show and sale July 4th. If you have any questions, feel free to call my dad at 204-724-5778. Thank you!
Tarron Basaraba
Hi, my name is Tarron Basaraba. I am 13 years old and my parents are Shannon and Troy. Our farm is northeast of Forrest. This is my fifth year showing beef in 4-H and I love being a part of the Rivers 4-H Beef Club. This year my steer’s name is Yogi and he is a Black Angus that I bought off of DJ Cattle Co. I picked him myself as a 4-H project because I really liked the look of him, he was friendly, and I thought he would fill out nice. And he did not disappoint me! Boy does he love his picnic baskets! You don’t want to miss out on this delicious Angus beef! The money I will make from selling him will go towards my education fund, first car, and my next 4H project. If you are interested in my steer or have any questions, please contact my dad Troy at 204-573-0181. Thank you.

This year I chose a black/white faced steer out of our home raised herd. His name is Bullwinkle and he weighed 696 lbs at weigh day on December 3rd. I am hoping he weighs around 1330 lbs at out show and sale on July 4th Bullwinkle is thick and shiny. If he is anything like his brother last year, his flavour will be something to savour. If you have any questions or would like information on how to purchase, call my dad Richard at 204-724-5778. Thank you and hope to see you July 4th!

Hi, my name is Blake Airey. I’m eleven years old and I enjoy playing softball, hockey, camping, fishing, and showing cattle. My parents are Shawn and Tanya Airey, and we have a Charolais cattle business on the outskirts of Rivers, MB. This is my fourth steer project and my second heifer project. My heifer’s name is Lily because she is sweet like the flower and my amazing steer is named, Whiskey, like his golden rich whiskey color. He is the best beef money can buy and as soon as you have a bite of his steak your mouth will water. He is an amazing steer and I bet his beef will be too. If you have any questions call my Dad at 1-204-724-8823 or my Mom at 1-204365-0850. Proceeds from my steer will go towards my education fund. Thank you so much for your interest in 4-H.
