Bulldogs drop two to Cardinals to open district play

The Howe Bulldogs (4-7, 0-2) dropped two games to Pottsboro last week during spring break. Howe lost a heartbreaker, 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon on a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Howe’s Carson Daniels pitched a masterful six innings only needing 90 pitches in the outing at Pottsboro. He was relieved by Austin Haley in the seventh inning and allowed no runs. He allowed a leadoff single in the eighth that advanced to third with two outs and eventually became the winning run. The Dogs collected 11 hits and left two runners on base in the top of the seventh inning but were only able to score one run. Ethan Lopez led Howe with three hits. Haley and Luke Lopez each had two hits. Cooper Jones scored Howe’s only run in the seventh inning.

The Bulldogs scored two runs in the second inning as Daniels hit a solo shot over the right field wall. Freshman Garren Lankford drove home Ethan Lopez on a single. Howe only garnered five hits on the afternoon and Ethan Lopez had two of them. Ryan Hough had a single in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs will travel to Bonham on Tuesday and host the Purple Warriors on Friday for the 2-game series.
Daniels went six innings, allowing one run, walking four and allowing four hits while striking out three. Haley pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk, and one strikeout. Friday’s scheduled game was moved to Thursday afternoon and Pottsboro blasted Howe at home 14-2. Howe started Matt Hayes on the mound who threw a total of 38 pitches before being relieved by Parker Pecina who threw the final 36 pitches of the game. The Cardinals raced out to a 4-0 lead
