Learn about your antiques and collectibles with Georgia Caraway Since we are in the midst of Howe Bulldogs football I thought I would feature a bulldog collectible— Mack the Bulldog. Mack Bulldog is the symbol of Mack Trucks. The Mack Brothers Company produced America’s first touring bus in 1900. Five years later, Mack Brothers became one of the first manufacturers to mount a cab directly over the engine, greatly improving visibility and maneuverability in their vehicles. In 1910, they produced the first hook and ladder fire truck. Motorized vehicles produced after 1910 had a trade name plate of “Mack.”

Texoma Patriots meet tonight Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff (E.S.W.) of Katie and the Wolff is returning to update The Texoma Patriots on the problems Europe has experienced with mass immigration and help understand what Americans can do to stop the problems of mass immigration from happening in the United States. In 2009 Elisabeth was charged with ‘hate speech’ under Austrian law. Her new book The Truth is No Defense will be for sale (cash or checks only). In it she talks about being prosecuted, convicted, and fined with no appeal for truth telling in Europe. Her mission now is to warn Americans how important it is to protect the First Amendment right of free speech. A love offering will be collected to help cover her travel expenses. The event will be held at Buck Snort BBQ, 224 E. Jefferson St, Van Alstyne, 7 to 9 p.m. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge to attend. The Texoma

The story of the bulldog character started in 1917. During World War I, the British government purchased Mack AC model trucks from the Allentown, PA, company to supply the front lines with troops, food, and equipment. The British soldiers nicknamed the snub-nosed truck that had proved so durable, “Bulldog Mack,” after their country’s mascot, the British bulldog. Sometime after 1918, the canine logo was added to the Mack truck design.
Pictured is a chalkware figure that was produced from the 1920s until the 1950s when carnivals enjoyed their heyday.
