The fifth annual Houston Sports Awards was on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the Wortham Center. This star-studded award show gathered together Houston’s top athletes, both past and present, to commemorate, celebrate and recognize Houston’s top sports achievements, sports icons, performers, and moments. Legendary Sports Anchor Hannah Storm played host; celebrating with athletes like Clyde Drexler, Sheryl Swoopes, Roger Clemens, and Tamyra Mensah-Stock.

APRIL 25, 2022 | Carlton Woods - Creekside
Houston's three legendary quarterbacks - Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon, Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware, and College Football Hall of Famer Vince Young – hosted the 2nd Annual Brothers In Arms Celebrity Golf Tournament on Monday, April 25, 2022, at the Carlton Woods Creekside Fazio Course in The Woodlands. Proceeds from this event go towards the Brothers In Arms diversity scholarships supporting student-athletes raised in a single-parent environment.

The 2022 NCAA DIII Women's Golf Championships were hosted at Bay Oaks Country Club on May 10-13, 2022 Over 170 athletes from 25+ universities made their way to Houston to compete in the championship tournament. The event kicked off with an exciting tee-off in partnership with the Special Olympics. The four days of competition were fun and exciting, consisting of team and individual competitions
Events like this wouldn't be possible without the support of our dedicated and hardworking volunteers. Over 65 volunteers filled a total of 1,227 hours.

OLYMPIC & PARALYMPIC DAY
June 23, 2022 | Spring Branch Boys & Girls Club
The Harris County - Houston Sports Authority hosted Olympic & Paralympic Day on Thursday, June 23. Olympic Day, created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, focuses on Olympic values and ideals such as fair play, perseverance, respect, and sportsmanship. The day consisted of Houston Olympians & Paralympians from the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee teaching over 250 children how to play various sports, including Tennis, Baseball, Track and Field, Taekwondo, Boxing, Gymnastics, Bobsled, Basketball, and Sitting Volleyball. This exciting day also featured athlete appearances, lunch, autographs, and a Q&A session with the Olympians & Paralympians hosted by KHOU's Daniel Gotera

The reigning Premier League champs, Manchester City, faced off against Liga MX powerhouse Club América on Wednesday, July 20, at the 2022 Copa de Lone Star hosted by Lone Star Sports and Entertainment at NRG Stadium This event brought 61,223 soccer fans together to experience this exciting match-up. Copa de Lone Star was a great reminder of the City of Houston’s love of soccer and fans’ excitement leading up to the FIFA World Cup 2026™

The 2022 National Battle of the Bands (NBOTB) once again packed the house at NRG Stadium Over 40,000 fans from across the nation gathered to see eight of the best HBCU marching band's spirited and passionate performances. The evening culminated with an electric performance by GRAMMY®-nomin hip-hop artists Quavo & Takeoff to make th even better
The weekend also featured several other ev including the “Back on the Yard Kickoff” & Stroll, the Emerging Experie Entrepreneur Conference by JP Morgan Ch and an HBCU S.T.E.M College Fair. $25,000 in scholarships are awarded to community band programs each year NBOTB takes pride in its efforts to create pos educational, cultural, and economic impact the city of Houston.

The Houston Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022 was inducted on September 13 and received their HOF Rings and plaques on the Walk of Fame Roger Clemens, Sheryl Swoopes, and Clyde Drexler, who all wore the number 22 during their time in Houston, shared the day with friends and family at the House of Blues
Celebrations started with each Hall of Famer imprinting their hand onto their portraits. Handprints are Houston artist Opie Otterstad’s unique alternative to athletes writing their signatures onto his work Kevin Eschenfelder from AT&T Southwest hosted the event inside the House of Blues as the Class of ‘22 saw their HOF rings for the first time Fred Cuellar of Diamond Cutters International presented the rings while explaining the design and various gems. From there, the festivities moved outside to the Houston Sports Walk of Fame, where their plaques were unveiled.

The Harris County – Houston Sports Authority was founded 25 years ago, on September 1, 1997 Over the month of September, the HCHSA celebrated its 25th anniversary throughout the city of Houston through celebrations, media appearances, and community involvement. Since the start in 1997, the HCHSA has brought over 6 billion dollars in economic value to the region through events like the AAU Junior Olympic Games, NCAA Men's Final Four, International World Table Tennis, and many more. The organization will continue to positively impact the community through efforts to bring marquee events, like the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026™ to the region.

The Zone
The Sports Authority Foundation partnered with HCHSA to host Abilities In Motion (AIM), a new program focused on providing sports programming for youth and adults with physical disabilities Its inaugural event, The AIM Adapted Sports Day, was held on September 17 at the Zone Through the support of TIRR Memorial Hermann, athletes from all over Houston came together to participate in various sports coached by Paralympian athletes. Educational sessions were also hosted for adults and parents interested in learning more about local and educational opportunities.

GREENSTREET FOUNTAIN UNVEILING
The Harris County - Houston Sports Authority (HCHSA) concluded its 25th Anniversary celebration by unveiling the HCHSA Hall of Fame Fountain at the GreenStreet Promenade The formal announcement of the 2023 Houston Sports Hall of Fame Class served to highlight the unveiling
The mosaic art installation on the fountain, designed by Hall of Fame artist Opie Otterstad, was inspired by the Houston sports community It features 13 Hall of Famers and some iconic Houston sports moments Opie would not have been able to complete the fountain without the help and support of a talented group of art students from the University of Houston This fountain will be a focal point for the Houston Sports Walk of Fame and is part of the continued efforts to build the Hall of Fame brand on GreenStreet.
FIFA WORLD CUP 2026™
The eyes of the world are now on Houston. The city was chosen as one of 16 North American cities to host the single largest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup. Houston's selection for the World Cup 2026 completes a successful ten-year journey by the HCHSA that sold FIFA on the advantages of NRG Stadium, the warmth and hospitality of our people, and the diversity of the city. Houston once again proved that it stands out from the other major cities and will now have the opportunity of showcasing to a global audience all that the region has to offer.
