FEVER

Whether you follow fashion or not, there is no denying that Hailey Bieber is a total fashion it-girl. Her street style is chic and exudes

confidence. Bieber’s stylist, Maeve Riley is known for incorporating her client's personalities into their style. This is evident in the way that she dresses Hailey, because everything she wears exudes "cool girl energy". The thing I love most about Hailey's style is her use of accessories. Whether she wears a purse with a pop of color, or a matching pair of sunglasses, she always manages to wear accessories that are the perfect touch to her outfit.

STELLA MCCARTNEY The woman who made sustianbility chic

Throughout my life, I was always aware of Stella Mccartney’s bags and clothing, but I truly fell in love with the brand once I found out the initiative behind the fashion. Since launching her self-titled brand, Stella Mccartney’s career has been centered around saving our planet. The brand was made with the mission to create sustainable clothing that people felt good about wearing. Over the past 20 years, Stella has been deemed the “Queen of Sustainability” because she fought for sustainable fashion before it was cool. What makes Mccartney’s brand so unique is her effort to make the interior of her stores sustainable as well. The walls of her flagship store are made of papier-maché from her office in London. Her mannequins are made by BNATURAL by Bonaveri, the world’s first biodegradable mannequins. And, to top things off every item in the store is sustainable. If you want to splurge on a new sustainable luxury item, shop at Stella Mccartney- a brand where every detailed is dedicated to protecting our Earth.

gymnasts salute BY:

TULSI

GOEL

“And in first place on bars, is Tulsi Goel, with a 9.8!” she announced. Walking up to that podium felt great. Hearing the cheers from my teammates, and the medal being placed around my neck, I stood up there, proud of myself for all the hard work I put into gymnastics. “Gymnasts, salute!” I started gymnastics when I was three. I began competitive gymnastics when I was eight. Gymnastics was always my passion. I loved every part of it...except the vault, but that’s besides the point. I enjoyed learning new skills, and competing against other gyms. The sense of comradery within the team made the gym feel like another home. As our team grew, I was able to help my teammates with my years of experience. As I became familiar with competitions, I started to record mine and my teammates’ scores. I tracked them every meet so everyone could watch how they improved over the season. It made me feel like a leader. I had been at the same gym for 9 years when I decided it was time for a change. I switched gyms, competed with them for a year, and met a lot of new people. But, as the season progressed, I realized something. I realized that I wasn’t enjoying gymnastics like I had when I was younger. I also felt like I wasn’t improving as much as I could. It was really hard, but I had to be honest with myself and realize that I wasn’t getting as much out of gymnastics as I once used to. It was a tough decision, but I quit at the end of the season. Although I was very indecisive, I quickly learned that I made the right decision, as 2 years later, I now enjoy participating in cross country. What those 10 years taught me was that commitment isn’t a joke nor is it easy. What’s equally as difficult is honesty, especially with oneself. But when you are in a difficult situation like I once was, it is important to take time to reflect on yourself and your journey, and recognize that what’s best for you is not always what’s easiest.

THE MET GALA .09.13.21.

COURTESY OF VOGUE

KENDALL Kendall Jenner was the center of attention at this year's MET Gala. I completely fell in love with her look. It was elegant and it was a tribute to Audrey Hepburn's "My Fair Lady". Considering how much of an impact Audrey had on. American cultureKendall's outfit definitely fit this year's theme. This look was made by Givenchy.

COURTESY OF VOGUE

CIARA Singer, Songwriter and Entrepreneur, Ciara paid tribute to her husband Russell WIilson for her MET Gala look. Russel is currently the quaterback of the Seattle Seahawks. Ciara and designer Peter Dunas worked together to convert Russell's jersey into a dress. Since there is nothing more American, than football, I think that this look was perfect for this year's event. I also LOVE the football bag she used to compliment her look.

COURTESY OF VOGUE

BARBIE Actress, Barbie Ferreira sparkled in a look inspired by old Hollywood Burlesque. I love her look because of the use of pearls and sequins throughout her outfit. This look was created by Johanthan Simkhai. Even though her dress was amazing, it was her makeup that caused an uproar on social media prompting tons of videos on how to recreate her eye-makeup.

COURTESY OF VOGUE

YARA Grownish star, Yara Shahidi channeled her inner Josephine Baker at this year's met gala. This look was definitely one of my favorites from this year's event. It is very classy and a beautiful tribute to Josephine Baker's legacy. This look is a custom Christian Dior dress, which is fitting considering that Yara is the brand ambassador for the brand.

MOVIE OF THE MONTH

FRANCA SOZZANI The Editor and Chief who combined fashion and politics.

Watch her Documentary on Netflix titled Franca Sozzani: Chaos and Creation.

FASHION ISN’T REALLY ABOUT CLOTHES—IT’S ABOUT LIFE. Franca Sozzani was one of the most iconic Editor and Chiefs of our time. She was the the EIC of Italian Vogue from 1988 until her passing in 2016. What made her time at Vogue so notable was her willingness to combine fashion and politics before it was popular. She made controversial covers about plastic surgery, the 2010 BP oil spill, and even made the iconic "Black Issue". The Black Issue was published in July 2008, and featured only black models in the magazine. This was groundbreaking, because at the time the fashion industry was not as diverse as it is today. Sozzani's work set the stage for the fashion industry to become more diverse an less afraid of being "political"

A GUIDE TO MAKING SUSTAINABLE FRIENDSHIPS

1 2 3 4

Choose friends that have the same values as you

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever been given is to surround yourself with people who value the same things as you, and not necessarily the same interests as you. It’s okay if you and your friend don’t watch the same television shows or listen to the same music. It only matters if you and your friends have the same values in life. For example: if you value hard-work and your bestie does not, your bestie will be less understanding if you stay home on Friday night to study.

Be Honest with each other It is so important to be honest with your friends about how you feel. Whether it’s by confiding in them about how you feel about school, or talking about something that they said hurt your feelings. Relationships are all about being open and honest with each other. #communicationiskey

Don’t be a backstabber I know this one is obvious, but it is so important to actually focus on being a

good friend. Don’t go around spreading rumors or making snide jokes or comments to make your friend feel small. And honestly, keep your conversations between you two. Don’t blab about your besties issues or problems.

Know when to give each other space

When people are going through a rough time, sometimes they just need some space. If that happens, the best thing you can do is let them know that you are supporting them and loving them from afar.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

HONESTY OVER EVERYTHING By: Pragnya Kumar

Honesty. A word that seemingly appears to be a quality, but is much more multifaceted. I vividly remember the emphasis honesty was given in my household from when I was a little girl. My parents taught me that it was one of the most important, if not “the” most important, quality that a person could have. In simple terms, it is defined as the act of being truthful. However, something most people don’t realize is that there are two parts to it - being honest to others and being honest to yourself. Often times it’s easy to be oblivious to the latter. The word is commonly perceived on the surface level, in that people tend to only think about its external meaning. Am I an honest person? Am I truthful to others? Am I being fully transparent to my friends, family, and those closest to me? The piece of the puzzle that people often neglect is its internal meaning - am I being honest with myself? Openness and communication go hand in hand. In relationships, it is key to let the other person know how you truly feel. The more you confide in them to embrace your candor, the more successful a relationship will be. In the case of friendships, honesty is equally important. Although, this is often avoided in fear of hurting the other person. Whether it may be constructive criticism about a school assignment or frank opinions about a significant other, it is always important to voice your thoughts. No matter how you look at a situation, being truthful is always the most rewarding path to take, even if not the easiest.

One of the most vivid personal experiences of honesty I can think of is from this past year. As a high-school student who faced a pandemic in their senior year, I think everyone would agree when I say that everyday presented a new challenge. Whether it was dealing with the nuances of virtual learning or simply steering clear of COVID-19, each day was about problem solving. The college admissions process during a normal year is already tough, so experiencing it during a pandemic added a new layer of uncertainty to the equation. However, one of the ways I kept a positive mindset was by being honest with myself and family/friends. I am also a competitive tennis player, so recruiting was happening in conjunction with submitting college applications. I often felt “stuck” throughout the process. I confided in my parents and friends because I knew they were a safe space for me to express my feelings and receive advice. The most challenging part was the conglomeration of tasks - managing tennis recruitment, submitting college applications on time, and studying for school. Especially in a COVID year where coaches were not able to come see us play, schools getting programs cut, and losing funding, everything hung in the balance. I struggled with the constant uncertainty. Would I be playing in the fall? Would I have to give the sport up after playing and competing for so long? As the year progressed, I was able to slowly shift my mindset. It helped to reflect and voice my opinions to both myself and others. One of the most challenging parts of the whole year was deciding which school would be the best fit for me when I started getting tennis offers from multiple schools. After all, I needed to choose wisely because college is one of the most important parts of our lives. I acknowledged that the circumstances were different, but pushed myself to trust in the process and believe I would be presented with the best outcome in the end. I was able to move forward with the perspective that everything happens for a reason and if it’s meant to be, it will be. While it may sound cliché, I truly abide by this saying. I have noticed myself grow tremendously as a person over this one year because of this shift in perspective. My outlook has strengthened and is now one of my biggest assets. After quite an unorthodox year, I am very happy to say that I committed to Georgia State University to continue both my academic and athletic career. The decisions I had to make were very tough, but after truly envisioning what I wanted, I realized GSU checked all my boxes. This is a classic example of being honest with oneself. On the surface level, I may not have been thinking deep enough, but asking myself what I truly wanted helped me arrive at the best possible scenario. I look forward to continuing my tennis journey, seeing where these next four years take me, and how I can continue to grow as a person. As a result of being truthful to myself, I was able to consider multiple angles rather than just one. It is a life skill that I believe everyone should strive to employ in their daily life. Being honest with others, and most importantly yourself, can do wonders to keep you moving forward on the right path.

COURTESY OF THE ETHIQUETTE

The Ethiquette Q&A with

The Etiquette, an upcoming luxury house in Paris, is going to lead the next generation of sustainable clothing. Even it's name (a combination of the words Ethics and Etiquette) is a reflection of what the brand stands for: creating unique items with a story and a purpose. The founder of the company Elena Feit, became passionate about sustainable fashion while studying in Shanghai. During her studies, she became aware of how much fashion polluted Earth which prompted her to create a Couture house built on a “circular economy”. In fashion, a circular economy is when clothes are made to last as long as possible, but after it’s lifetime they are able return to the biosphere without harming the environment. At The Etiquette, all of the clothing is made from the “remnants of Haute Couture Houses and Indian Saris.” The whole entire company is built around creating unique clothing items with a story. When I asked why sustainability was important to her, she said “{it’s} because there is no planet b”. Most fashion lovers don't like to acknowledge the impact that fashion has on Earth, but Elena Feit is not afraid to speak out about things like “green-washing”- a phenomenon where brands hide the truth about their commitment to making sustainable products. Feit believes that while starting a sustainable business, it’s important to make sure that every single aspect of your company is based around being sustainable.
