10 YEARS ONCOLOGY AT THE HPA July
Atualmente já são três os Hospitais de Dia de Oncologia que possui o Grupo HPA Saúde, mas o primeiro foi criado no HPA Gambelas e comemorou em 2021, 10 anos. Foi o primeiro centro de oncologia privado a sul de Lisboa, tendo a primeira consulta e o primeiro tratamento de quimioterapia ocorrido no dia 27 de julho de 2011, sob a direção do Dr. António Fráguas, nome incontornável da especialidade na região do Algarve. O serviço tem crescido de forma exponencial em casuística, mas sobretudo tem sido capaz de se diferenciar na disponibilidade terapêutica, oferecendo hoje além da quimioterapia (oral, endovenosa ou intra vesical), terapêuticas-alvo, hormonoterapia, imunoterapia e anticorpos monoclonais. Apesar de privado, os tratamentos podem ser comparticipados de forma significativa por subsistemas (incluindo ADSE e ADM) ou seguros de saúde. A investigação permanente, nomeadamente os ensaios clínicos, são uma vertente determinante na área da oncologia, sendo que também aqui o serviço tem vindo a criar notoriedade. Existem neste momento dois ensaios a decorrer, para o carcinoma cutâneo e colorretal e, já em duas situações o serviço disponibilizou pela primeira vez em termos nacionais, novas terapêuticas nomeadamente no cancro da mama e no cancro gástrico, associando imunoterapia à quimioterapia. É também dos poucos centros a oferecer a possibilidade de crioterapia pelo sistema scalp cooling, um capacete de arrefecimento que reduz a probabilidade de alopécia (queda do cabelo), tão comum durante os tratamentos de quimioterapia e causadora de grande sofrimento psicológico e social nos pacientes. A área da oncologia é uma das valências onde temos investido de forma importante, pois infelizmente mantem-se com prevalências elevadas e, em alguns cancros, ainda com uma mortalidade significativa e precoce. O caminho que fizemos nestes 10 anos tem sido muito gratificante ao sentir que podemos efetivamente fazer a diferença na vida das pessoas, na sua qualidade de vida e no seu bem-estar, referiu o Dr. João Bacalhau no discurso da comemoração. Parabéns a todos os heróis e heroínas que acompanhámos durante estes 10 anos. Às famílias com as quais convivemos enviamos um voto de esperança e solidariedade. There are currently three Oncology Day Care Hospitals owned by the HPA Health Group. The first one was the HPA Gambelas that celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2021. It was the first private oncology centre south of Lisbon, with the first consultation and the first chemotherapy treatment taking place on the 27th of July 2011, under the management of Dr. António Fráguas, a well know name connected to this medical specialty, in the region of the Algarve. The service has grown exponentially in number of cases, but above all it has been able to stand out in its treatment capacity, offering today in addition to chemotherapy (oral, intravenous or intravesical), targeted therapies, hormone therapy, immunotherapy and monoclonal antibodies. Although private, treatments can be significantly reimbursed by various health systems (including ADSE and ADM) or health insurance companies. Permanent research, such as clinical trials, are a crucial aspect in the field of oncology, and here, too, the service has been gaining notoriety. There are currently two trials in progress, for cutaneous and colorectal carcinoma and, in two situations, the service has already made available, for the first time in Portugal, new treatments, namely in breast cancer and gastric cancer, associating immunotherapy with chemotherapy. It is also one of the few centres to offer the possibility of cryotherapy using the scalp cooling system, a cooling helmet that reduces the likelihood of alopecia (hair loss), so common during chemotherapy treatments, causing great psychological and social suffering for patients. Oncology is one of the medical areas where we have invested significantly, as unfortunately it remains with a high prevalence and, in some types of cancer, still with a significant and early mortality rate. The path we have taken in these 10 years has been very gratifying as we feel that we can effectively make a difference in people's lives, in their quality of life and their well-being, mentions Dr João Bacalhau in the commemoration speech. Congratulations to all the heroes and heroines that we have treated during these past 10 years. We also wish to express our hope and solidarity to the families with whom we have so closely been involved. We thank our professionals for their humanism, dedication and rigor.
