HSS Ultrasound of the Month Case 177

Page 1

Clinical History

16-year-old male with inferomedial right knee pain.

Diagnosis: Pes Anserinus Spur resulting in Pes Anserine Tendinitis/Bursitis

A pes anserinus spur is an exostosis arising from the medial aspect of the proximal tibial metaphysis and projecting away from the knee joint.

Though a pes anserinus spur is benign, it may be symptomatic due to impingement of the pes anserine structures.

Treatment is usually conservative but bony excision can be performed in cases with persistent knee pain.
