5.5 sense is the transitional phase in between the 5th and 6th sense,it is the moment when our physical senses react with our mental state and ignites a tremendous spark. It is an abstract yet undeniable phenomenon, which is crucial to the process of creation and, indeed our own sense of transformation. 當 「視 、聽 、嗅 、觸 、味」 等五 覺的認 知與不 能觸摸 的感知 ，彼 此對 話之時 ，產生 一種特 別 的感通 。這 感通可 以發生 在創作 的過程 、轉 化、 甚至結 果上； 看似虛 無但絕 對存在 ，我們 稱這為 「伍 點伍感 」。

"5.5 sense - Bachelor of Arts(Fine Art) Graduation Exhibition 2014'

The annual Bachelor of Art (Fine Art) Graduation Exhibition has become one of the major cultural events in Hong Kong since 2001. The exhibition is a major event, not only for the Hong Kong Arts Centre and the graduating students but also for the many visitors who view the exhibition at the Pao Galleries throughout the month of July.

The exhibition this year entitled, "5.5 sense Bachelorof Arts(Fine Art) Graduation Exhibition 2014" is the culmination of hard work and application by all 42 participating students throughout their course of study. The drive and energy that each artist invests of his or herself is what makes this event such an exciting moment.

creative potential and in doing so make a valuable contribution to the cultural welfare of Hong Kong, as well as the local art community and beyond.

The lasting impression of the collective body of work in this exhibition is one of intellectual sophistication and creative maturity.

There is a dynamic quality in this body of work. A dynamic that is borne from rigorous research and studio investigation, resulting in conceptually challenging work which was executed with supreme virtuosity and technical skills. The creative focus of each artist is impressive and represe?ts a personal expression of invention and the culmination of an intense period of study and achievement.

Without exception each of the artists has established a truly unique and individual visual language by which they are able to reflect upon and express themselves in the challenging world of the 21st Century. I wish all of you great success with the graduation exhibition, which is your final show as undergraduate students, at a moment of transition in your careers as emerging artists. It is an important moment to reflect and to enjoy all the hard work that you have taken upon yourselves in order to reach this point.

In a dynamic and evolving art world, which is now clearly centered on Asia, you are in a unique position to carry the momentum of your studies forward into an expanding field of opportunity. Use this time and opportunity well, seize the moment and work hard to consolidate your interests and ideas for thefuture. With this graduation exhibition you have created the platform from which to travel further and to engage with an audience, who with luck will return again to your work as time passes.

You have chosen to call the exhibition 5.5 Sense, to recognize the spark that must ignite all oursenses in order to bring meaning and

invention into the world through our experiences and our abilities.

The creative spark is important in that it creates the conditions for invention. However the spark alone is not enough without hard work and a profound engagement with knowledge. In our individual creative journeys as we move within the world and as we come to understand our world we also need the assistance of others. It is important to remember and to recognize those who have studied with you and also those who have taught you, as they are very much part of your journey. We all share in common the 5 senses of Touch, Smell, Taste, Sight and Hearing, but we all have

the potential to combine our experience of these uniquely through poetry, art and science.

Maintaining the spark of creativity that leads to insights and new perspectives falls to each generation to nurture and experience.

The challenge for many of us in the arts will be that of working together collaboratively with technologies, which require teams of people who communicate across boarders and between disciplines. There will be new sparks, which occur collaboratively.

5.5 sense - a transitional sensory phase located between the 5th sense and a hypothetical 6th sense

Five senses, generally referred to as Touch, Smell, Taste, Sight and Hearing, are the mediums that assist us to understand and relate to the outside world. They also help each of us to establish a connection between our inner self and our surrounding environment. As artists, we express ourselves through the process of art making and, as such, we rely considerably on the 5 senses to observe and perceive before the creation of an art piece. Mediums of creation may vary, but the essence of the creative process is the same: we need to open up our senses and feel the world sincerely. We believe, that integrated with the 5 senses, namely an ability to think and express ourselves freely, we have been able to define a clear direction. Life is a wonderful journey that is full of surprises. We have encountered stimulating and challenging moments with each other, we have shared our experience of art together over the past three years and now it is time for us to walk our own path. Yet we believe that nothing can stop us from pursuing our ongoing quest to further our learning.

五感 一般指 作視覺 、聽覺 、味覺 、嗅覺 及觸覺 ，是我 們瞭 解外在 世界的 媒介， 亦是自 我與周 邊環境 互動的 橋樑 。作為 藝術家 ，我們 透過創 作表達 自己， 在作品 成形前 ，我們 依賴五 感去感 受世界 。藝 術創作 的媒體 有很多 ，但主 要的要 素則大 同小異 _就 是以自 己的感 官誠 懇地感 受世界 。我們 相信綜 合五感 ，就能 自由地 思 想及表 達自我 ，藉 以找到 清晰的 方向。 生命是 一個充 滿驚 奇的美 好旅程 ，在過 去三年 ‧我 們一 起渡過 了一個 又一個 令人振 奮及富 挑戰性 的時刻 ，一 起分享 了對藝 術的 體驗； 現在， 終於到 了要分 渡揚鑣 的時候 ，但我 們相 信此後 沒有什 麼能阻 擋我們 對藝術 的熱切 追求。

Message from Subject Coordinator

Every January, students enroll in the fine art course with different expectations. These expectations are based on their own understanding of ceramic art. Such understanding may serve as a foundation for learning, or it may become a hindrance to art creation.

Art can cultivate critical thinking. To make effective critique on the existing system is not easy, while questioning oneself is even more difficult as adults have well-established values.

Ceramics is about building. We need to review what we have already built as a person before knowing why we are building more.

Initially, students may have misunderstanding and prejudice about ceramic art. Over three years of learning, students start to develop a better perspective on ceramic art. Such clarification will create a new space in which a better self may grow.

每 年一月，大家 都抱著 不同的 期望進 入藝術 學院， 這些建 基於 對陶瓷 藝術不 同理解 的期望 ，或 許成為 學習的 基礎， 同 時亦可 能是創 作的絆 腳石。

對既 有系統 作出有 效的批 判並不 容易1 成年 人往往 擁抱著 一 大堆自 我價值 ，要對 自己作 出質疑 ，更是 困難； 偏是藝 術 ，能 培養我們反思 事物的 能力。

陶瓷是一種以 「建 立」 作 為方法 的媒介 ，但 在建立 之前， 我們必 須重新 檢視那 些將自 己填塞 得滿滿 的內容 ，才 會了 解 * 自己為 何要從 「建 立」中 再建構 ，如何 建構， 建構什 麼0

起初 ，大 家往往 對陶瓷 藝術抱 有偏見 與誤解 經過 三年的 梳理 ，請 大家給 自己清 理出一 點空間 ，期望這點空 間能成 為一個 保育室 ，讓大 家建立 一個更 澄淨的 自己。 |

So Ling likes the color and texture of her work that is achieved by wood firing. She uses the shrinkage characteristic of clay and paper to create a natural form and unique patterns on her work.

素 玲喜歡 以柴燒 成作品 的色澤 和質感 。她善 用陶泥 和 紙的收 縮特性，去製 造作品 的自然 形態及 獨特圖

The educational experience has enabled her to think about clay from different perspectives, such as employing traditional Chinese paper technology to merge with clay making methodologies. Through the processes she is able to communicate through the clay medium. This spiritual status has been integrated into her life.

Wun Yiu • Reproduction

碗窖 ‧再生

Wun Yiu Village is located to the southwest of Tai Po Market. It is the only kiln site that produced porcelain with under glaze blue currently found in Hong Kong. Wun Yiu began producing porcelain in the early Ming dynasty but it was discontinued in 1932. It' was operational for more than 500 years in the ceramic industry.

碗窖座 落於大 埔墟的 西南面 ，是 香港 唯一生 產青花 瓷工 業的法 定古蹟 。碗 窖早於 明朝已 經有生 產青花 瓷 的記載 ，超過 500 年 的歷史 ，直到 1932 年才停 止 生產。

An important historical site, with an extensive background in ceramic production, it now lies quietly in the mountains of the New Territories of Hong Kong. Can we use and revive this existing resource?

一 處擁有 豐富製 作陶瓷 工業的 遺址有 ?重要 歷史價 值 ，現在 靜靜地 安躺在 香港新 界的山 嶺上， 我們可 否 再運用 那豐碩 的資源 令它重 生呢？

Wun Yiu produced blue and white ceramic products for over 500 years in Hong Kong. I have designed a series of porcelain products that interact with the human body.

These objects may appear to serve a purpose for the human body, alternatively however, they may also seem unrealistic. I hope to generate an interest in the history of Wun Yiu for the viewers through the process of showcasing my work as well as to emphasize the dichotomy of placing hard materials on the soft human body.

碗窖在 香港有 500 年 生產青 花陶瓷 產品銷 售的歷 史 ，我想 運用瓷 土重新 設計一 系列關 於在配 合人身 體使用 的產品 ，產 品看 似在人 身上發 揮用途 但又似 乎不 切實際 ，希 望藉以 給觀者 重新對 碗窖的 造陶業 及歷 史產生 一點點的興趣 ，也 希望帶 出用硬 物料製 作的產 品放在 柔軟的 身體上 所產生 有趣的 效果。

I have designed a series of blue and white products featuring Wun Yiu signature as a creative concept. This is only a starting point to arouse awareness of Wun Yiu and to encourage viewers to become familiar with its contribution to ceramic culture.

Life is amazing.

生命的讚歎

Art is life. My creation was inspired by my daily explorations of nature. Paper clay was used to accentuate the veins and lightness of the leaf installations.

藝術就 是日常 的生活。我的創 作是來 自大自然的探 索 ，我用 陶土將 樹葉的 質感和 輕度， 透過泥 漿的運 用呈現 出來。

Leaves grow and wither through the seasons. In the end they go back to the soil and become nutrients to nourish new life. I am attracted by their humbleness and harmony with nature. They tell me that life is amazing even at an old age, as life is about burning, dedication and continuity.

兩張臉

When people talk, they naturally look at others’ faces.

Sometimes we know they are not telling the truth, this is because their eyes or facial expressions disclose there is something being hidden. People tend to hide part of their feelings or emotions, if not all, when communicating with others. Today, almost everyone has two "faces" - an outer one being worn on one's face, is a sham to deceive; an inner face, being hidden, is the true self.

I am very sensitive to visual effects and I started to study the concept of illusion in Year 2

I then realized that I have always been attracted to the visual effect of repetitive patterns.

For this project, I have employed the "balling" technique to create my work. I studied both the exterior and interior of various natural objects and applied the "balling" process to create a resolved ceramic art form that, hopefully, expresses the inherent beauty of the structure of these natural objects while, at the same time, achieving the required repetitive visual effects.

I can achieve inner peace through the repetition of this action in an unconscious and meditative state of mind.

During my research of the construction brick, from the first known hand-built unfired mud brick, to the present-day mass produced ceramic brick, I discovered that there had been significant changes in the purpose of brick-making, design, and application. This was, due primarily by the advancements in our technology and the prosperity of our society. Meanwhile, people's values have also been constantly affected, which raises a fundamental question: Does the deed of virtue "for the people" still exist?

From my initial investigation, including the development of the artwork, I have made use of the characteristics of the material and combined them with my daily observations of social phenomena and discoveries of empathizing sentiments. The artworks borrow the forms of ceramic bricks and tiles which speak of my contemplation of my surroundings, my daily experiences, and the sensual awareness of my existence in this world. I want to share this inner inquiry of our modern society with my audience: "What do we Desire in life? What are our Needs? What can we do for our Society?”

I believe that every object on this planet has a particular destiny, which is a natural path of life that contains its beginning, development, and ending. This path is inevitable and we just have to go with the flow in order to fulfill our destiny. When an object or a person is going with the flow aimlessly and effortlessly, such status appears as a reflection of infinity.

I have spent the last two years developing this spiritual journey. In the last semester I discovered that clay demonstrates the best example of infinity based on the irregular form of this material. I am able to construct and destroy the same piece of clay as many times as I like before I send it to the kiln. On the other hand, I see changing clay into ceramics as a violation of nature since its natural purpose cannot be served when we fix the shape of the material. Pottery means more than making objects as the possession of a bowl or a vase does not interest me. Instead, I prefer to own the interactive process with the material as a memory or by means of photography.

Joni Mitchell sings of loss and love in a melancholic rendition of "A Case of You”ÿ on her 1971 album entitled "Blue”. The poetic lyrics are poignant in their reference to the role of the visual artist, particularly that of the "painter". They speak of commitment, isolation, an adventurous spirit and courage, all crucial ingredients in the repertoire of the visual artist.

have indeed embraced the many and varied challenges during their creative journey. They have demonstrated a strong sense of commitment together with an adventurous spirit over the threeyear period of the course. Without exception, each artist has exercised considerable passion, skill and integrity in the pursuit of their individual creative goal as can be clearly demonstrated by the diverse and sophisticated body of work represented in this exhibition. Collectively, as the next generation of emerging artists, their poetic and poignant visual language will, inevitably contribute to the growing dynamic of the cultural community of Hong Kong and beyond.

In a contemporary world where the discipline of "painting" has become increasingly pluralistic the language of the artist has evolved to the point where boundaries between media, process/s and methodology have become somewhat open ended and blurred.

I often wonder about the connections between light and life, and what this means to me. Light has the ability to pierce through darkness, creating a mysterious passage that guides the soul through uncertainties. Yet, light is never everlasting and that reminds me of how fleeting yet precious life can be, and the immense hope it carries while it lasts. Although everything will perish at some point in time, the beauty of each existence nevertheless stays in the hearts of many others, gently reminding us that 'life is like a spark of light'.

I enjoy creating mixed media installations that incorporate autobiographical material, and often end up creating some kind of enclosed space that suggests something mysterious and spiritual, that invites my viewers to look inside the artwork as well as reflecting deeper into their own emotions and imaginations.

My artwork explores alternative perspectives relating to the routine of everyday life.

We receive an overwhelming amount of information every day, from almost every aspect of our city life, including television, internet, smartphone, etc. While receiving this volume of information from around the world, we tend to neglect those precious little things around us, and are often far too busy to listen to the voice of our own self.

By investigating fragments of everyday life, I aim to provide different perspectives for audiences to re-experience the so-called 'boring1 aspects of daily life. I hope to raise awareness about people and/or the banal things around them and thus, allow them to discover the subtle and precious qualities that have been so easily neglected. I usually start with some realistic record that is referenced from everyday life, including photographs, sound recordings, videos, etc. These records would then act as a reference point that would inform me how to develop the visual material into drawings, paintings, collage and installation formats. While the subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the forms of the work, I often combine the elements of realism, poetic imagination, abstraction and humor to share my observations with my audience.

藉著觀 察平凡 生活中 的點滴 ，我試 圖以不 同的視 點， 從沉悶 刻板的 日常中，找 出那些 微小卻 又容易 被忽 略的不 平凡。

Lau's recent paintings are constructed with a unique sense of dramatic composition — this is reinterpreted within a narrative context from movies and literature. Lau tries to present "the right moment" from contemporary life and daily routine by way of a transformation process and the transition from movies and literature into his paintings.

Movies have been described as "the sculpture of moments". Following on from that, then surely painting should be defined as "the medium of the paused moment". Lau has not only placed emphasis on the expression of content, but also fetuses on the exploration of art language in his paintings. Lau treasures the "incompleteness" of his sketches that assist the paintings to attain a sense of unity and resolve.

My work is about the relationship between human consumption and the natural world. While at the same time, exploring people's physical senses particularly touch and smell. I use food, such as luncheon meat, to create works that evoke the relationship and connections between the twisted engagement with food consumption by humans and the natural world. I use a variety of foods and processes in each project, as well as a range of media such as installation, video, drawing and painting, that are intrinsically linked by the same concerned subject matter.

I use all sorts of food, procured from supermarkets and the local market, as the primary medium in my sculptural works. My experimental process, including layering the luncheon meat at different densities as well as heating, burning, and aging the material - gelatin, protein obtained by boiling skin, tendons, ligaments, and/or bones with water, is sometimes mixed with the luncheon meat, imparting a unique human flesh-liked texture onto the sculptures. This creates another textural layer that serves as a hint to remind people that we are eating ourselves as we destroy the world.

People indiscriminately change the natural instincts of animals to satisfy the perverse desire of human beings.

By changing a small part of the so-called daily phenomenon, Bear questions how we define the boundaries of "normal human behavior"? Ultimately this obscures the boundaries of natural existence.

Ho Yuk Ying specializes in installation, drawing and mixed media based work with an interest in applying a poetic and metaphorical language to her creative focus.

Her installations demonstrate how life extends beyond its own subjective limits and often tell stories about the effects of a global cultural interaction over the latter half of the twentieth century. Ho uses her everyday experiences and the relational aesthetics theory as a starting point.

She develops work that deals with the documentation of events and the question of how immaterial events can be presented in relation to alienation. Instead of telling a story or creating a metaphor, she articulates the possible forms of expression and explores the process with the aid of technology to appropriate a wide range of subjects in a multi-layered way. Her works are dedicated to involve the viewer in a physical way and to the belief that function follows form.

My work explores the proposition of "the Self and the Otherness" with the concept of existence through the media of painting and woodcarving, "the Self and the Otherness " here refers to whenever we see, whenever we touch our limbs, it reaffirms a sense of genuine existence. My proposition is that an entity with the capacity to see, its eyes being the object of observation, turns its attention to the existing world and this living existence can perceive the eyes of itself. Under such a situation, the existence of myself can be defined as an object of the others in the perspective of my eyes.

The works conveys people's thoughts and their hopes after they have grown up. It depicts the state of their constant struggle, considerations and decision-making between their dreams and reality as a result of certain constraints in their lives. Ironically, it is this conflict between the pursuit of dreams and the burden of reality that causes individuals to progress and prosper. It is also this ideal that affects how we bond with others and other core values such as love and relationships. People neglecting their significant others, abandoning their dreams because of work are examples to illustrate this. People make diverse decisions based on their individual challenges balancing their ideals against the odds. This echoes the words from William Butler Yeats - "Deformed because there is no deformity revealing the imperfecBut saves us from a dream. tions in real life. It's the people, their speech, and the food that inspires me, and I make art out of them. The video works were not processed but they were recorded behind a smooth, glass surface in order to record the time sequence, while inadvertently representing the double image as shown on the screen.

To capture the unexpected and spontaneous human activity from overhead the pace flashes in both images at the right moment and, as a consequence, stories are

formed.

On one side of the glass is my static body and the recorded images seem to somehow integrate within me.

Your moment becomes my moment and is engraved as an encounter that cannot be easily dismissed. Following such experiences it's as though time has stood still.

My main practice is known for the combination of collage and painting. By using readymade objects, such as family photographs and toys, I usually juxtapose them to construct 3 particuter context or 3n ambiguous narrative language. I tend to use these combinations as a devise to convey a sense of memory or reminiscence to the audience.

Once, when I reviewed a photograph of my grandmother, who had passed away many years ago, I became aware that the female was an important form of muse to me in which all of our memories and promises have their own umbilical connecting cord as evidence that we belong to one another. As Richard David Precht suggested, our demand for intimacy comes from the relationship we have with our parents during childhood. As we grow up, we inevitably redirect this need to others. I have restructured my love map so that all of the characters from the past to the future can meet each other in my own story.

My investigation is based on the issue of how objects, places, matter and human beings are woven within the context of temporality? How its relationship across different spaces and timelines will be linked, intersected, arranged and deformed?

I try to see the fickle presence and absence of the objects, places and human beings in the timeline.

What are the emotions of people as they hinge between the 'present', the 'past1 and the 'future1?

How the life picture will be different if we are standing at the 'end' to look back at the 'present' before we reach the end?

When the 'present', 'pas and 'future' are being compressed, what will somei eone's or something's 30 years existence look like?

Time somehow is like a circle, without a start and an end, but we tend to cut and unfold it into a "straight line" due to our logical and physical limitation.

Sometimes, my making process is crucial to compose the content itself, such as the time to draw. Time is one of the media that is intrinsically associated with the content of

the work.

My main focus is installation based drawings and ready made objects integrated with time elements. The idea and content are usually based on literature, such as Pÿ etry, movies, real stories and field research based dat 168

I selected and use a blue rose as the core subject matter in my painting. In this exhibition, fragmented paintings are suspended in mid air.

In my eyes it portrays the essence of love. Just like other flowers in nature, my blue rose blossoms then withers.

Immortality never exists. People always want to hold it tight for safekeeping. However, the more you hold it, the quicker it melts, and eventually it slips away. My dearest rose has now melted. All that it leaves me with are the tears following its once-in-a-lifetime blossom. We enjoy love and we would it like to stay, but if we hold it tightly, it will just slip away.

There is no immortal love, learn to be free and at ease.

In 2010, Chee Ling first experienced the joys of SCUBA diving. She was totally impressed by the underwater sea world which seemed to suggest a form of shelter to the artist. Submerged in this immense, ephemeral world was a way to escape the clamor of her urban life and provide her with a brief moment of tranquility that she has always longed for.

Her work depicts a whimsical and atmospheric environment where boundaries between spatial definition and the sensuous ambience of floating in a weightless world merge as one. It presents an ambiguous illusion of images and a blurred feeling of uncertainty. Viewers are introduced to the visual sensation of stepping into an aqueous atmosphere, which opens up a whole new world for interpretation.

The intention of this work is to reflect on the cityr where grew up and live. Hong Kong is a unique place. To me, it is not only home, but also a city that inflicts mixed emotion that is associated with a refuge and a transit point.

If architecture represents the three dimensional setting of a city, then time would be its forth dimension, and the evolved emotions of its people such as desire, aspiration, greed, fear and sense of loss would be the manifestation of its fifth dimension. This is my intention to capture the invisible dimensions of this city in my works.

Reclaim my lost home

故居

Located on the 15th floor of an apartment building that was demolished over 12 years ago there is now a vacant space where I once lived. The living space disappeared somewhere in the sky and it is hard to locate exactly where it had been. I am triggered by an acute sense of nostalgia and transience invoked by the fading memories of a time and a place that once was but has disappeared forever. In order to project my sense of yearning and desire, I have transformed images of my old to re-build the space that contained the cherished memories of my family and bore witness to my existence and my identity.

一個曾 從小居 住了多 年位於 十五樓 的舊屋 ，十 多年 前因重 建清拆 ，這 舊屋 的空間 現已懸於天空 一角， 但已沒 處可尋 。作 者被 這已消 失的空間觸動 而引發 透過創 作來抒 發她懷 緬那見 證了她 的成長 、證實 了她 的存在 、記 錄了她 身份以 及家人 珍貴回 憶的載 體 ，作品 《故 居》 以一 種虛擬 手法重 新呈現 她回憶 中 的舊屋 。讓作 品喚起 觀眾對 自身已 消失事 物重拾 的共鳴 及反思 回憶的 無價。

Hong Kong is a rapidly changing city. The cityscape has transformed because of the demolition of architectural structures in the name of urban renewal with little regard for its history where memories fade and are gone forever.

The work 'Reclaim my lost home' was conceived in order to arouse in the audience the experience of loss and a desire to reclaim and rethink the value of precious memories.

Message from Subject Coordinator

The Age of Art and Science Reunion

Art and science are both, in their own way, great achievements of human civilization, and they are really not at odds with each other originally. The famous Italian genius artist Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519), for example, was also well known for his numerous innovations in science. But since Renaissance times art and science had seemingly split and gone their separate ways, and it was not until several hundred years later, in the late eighteenth century or early nineteenth century, that they began to converge again. The most vivid representation of this reunion perhaps was the invention of photography: the French Government announced the invention by Parisian Louis Daguerre (1787-1851) on 19 August 1839, at a meeting jointly held by the Academy of Science and the Academy of Fine Arts.

We can easily find examples throughout history where scientists had been inspired by art in their explorations, and likewise artists had made use of scientific theories or methods to produce their masterpieces, especially during the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. In an age of inter-disciplinary approaches in academic studies and mixed-media practices in art, the current tendency, for an increasing number of artists to employ is photography and video. This was clearly evidenced in Art Basel and other recent large-scale international exhibitions. This trend is both logical and delightful. At this conjuncture, I am really surprised to learn recently that some people still cast doubt about photogra-

phy as a legitimate art form in it's own right. For me, these views are really petty, shallow and regretful.

The Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts programme that Hong Kong Art School and RMIT University jointly offer is a unique degree course in Hong Kong tertiary art education which gives students the opportunity to choose photography as their major study. In our teaching we place equal emphasis on skills and theories, and discuss many issues concerning art and technology in terms of current global developments. The number of photography major graduates who join the graduation exhibition is relatively fewer this year, but the themes and techniques they have explored and the styles and approaches they have pursued show very impressive variety and depth.

It is often said that graduation is the end of a phase of our life and the opening of another. This is especially true in the case of contemporary art which increasingly stresses the value of knowledge and intellectualism. It is my hope that students will continue their good work after graduation, and I look forward to working with them again on different platforms in the future.

My journey in the arts began 15 years ago as a magician on stage. It was during that time that I learned a lot about the performing arts. When I hungered for more later, I entered the world of drama. In drama I discovered Greek Tragedy which stresses an understanding of the vulnerability of human beings. It also helps to purify our souls through introspection. While studying acting, the process of exploring and exposing the inner self in human beings intrigued me. In this exhibition, Photography and Mixed Media are being used as the medium to express what we think of ourselves.

Three years in the art education has been an interesting fruitful experience, as you have seen in through our 2014 graduation show «5.5 sense»; with half a year of preparation, from planing to final execution, in order to conclude our three years experiences through a group graduation, is too, an fascinating experience.

Firstly, to express our appreciation and thanks to our teaching staff from both Hong Kong Art School and the RMIT, it was such a great honour or to have such encouragement and support in three years education, that lead us to grow fruitfully in the practicing of art.

Great gratitude to the 2014 Graduation show committee members, Bobby Chan, Scott Chan, Kamie Cheng, Kristy Chong, June Chun, Janice Fung, Ho Lok Chung, Bear Kan, Tracy Lam, Roy Lau, Carmen Leung, Ma Tin Hon, Cindy Tang, Pierre To, Jackson Tse, Elaine Wong, for serving as year of 2014 with their best hardship in recruiting sponsors, exhibition concept and design, catalogue edition, and many more - therefore the show could run smoothly.

Each of us has given ourself into these how new journey in Art through excitement, emotion and struggle and eventually, we all made it to this stage. Although «5.5 sense» is a conclusion of our three years of Art education, it is only the start of our pursing in art - and hence best wishes to us all.

All in all, it has been a great journey in Art, and I do hope you enjoy our 2014 graduation show «5.5 sense».
