MOMENTUM This year's Bachelor of Arts in Applied and Media Arts Annual Exhibition is titled as "Momentum", a term in the world of Physics which refers to the force to keep an object moving. The annual exhibition is to showcase the artworks performed by the graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in Applied and Media Arts programme offered by SPEED and the

Hong Kong Art School with a view to stimulating interaction between the artists and the audience and to gaining impetus movements. Through the exhibition, the graduates would like to present to the public their energy, or

"Momentum" to move forward in the field of arts. Such interaction, just like the transferable momentum, would help

both parties to be inspired by and mutually benefited from each other.

The artworks to be displayed at the annual exhibition will cover both individual and social topics through various media including graphic design, product design, exhibition design, animations, branding, photography and installations.

The Bachelor of Arts in Applied and Media Arts is offered by the School of Professional Education and Executive Development, Hong Kong Polytechnic University in collaboration with the Hong Kong Art School since 2003. People may wonder how the theme of this year , "Momentum" may relate to the art world. Indeed, this exhibition is an opportunity where a group of young talents showcase their innovative creations.

I find the event represents the convergence of a creative force. And it is a force for innovation as well as being able to take risk. This is the driving force which the society really needs. I believe this creative force of young talents, with its tremendous "Momentum", can demonstrate that art can play a vital role in improving our lives and the society.

V-Cine is the cinema of the next generation, using futuristic style and cutting edge technology to draw the attention of audience to every movie. The new technologies and innovative way of presentation will be widely applied in this future cinema, which help attract more audience to visit the V-Cine and promote the creative industries in Hong Kong.

V-Cine is a unique cinema because the actual scene will not only correspond to the theme of the movie, but can also be operated by introducing interactive architecture and responsive elements, in coordination with the computer projection of animation, lights and sound effects etc. Moreover, the new technologies help create the atmosphere - by seeing all these decoration effects in the V-cine, the audience can understand the theme of the movie more quickly as well as better enjoy the movie experience.

The Moment When someone sits on this chair, the sensor will sense the shape of his/her shadow as well as the colour of the outfit. Then, it will project the shadow on the lighting system When he/she leaves the seat, the shadow will fade out gradually. The same process will repeat when others try on the chair so that we have layers of new and old shadows forming interesting patterns with lighting colour mix.

love fone / Fai Wu What is my idea?

The love between men and women can be regarded as the most wonderful and significant relationship in our life. In order to explore this further, I decided to dedicate my graduation project to it.

The "Love" starts when Mr and Miss RIGHT meet with each other and the moment marks a new step forward in their life.

Although Fate may have a deciding role, I still believe that without a chance to meet, it will be very hard and time-consuming to look for another half.

Therefore, I have designed a "love fone" for matchmaking. It operates as a cell phone with new media technologies. One of its key roles is to provide a platform for people to look for their perfect matches.

Although people may not find their true love in this platform, at least they can have a chance and extend their social networks to make new friends.

She will call her boyfriend as many times as possible if she can not see him. She would like to know as much as she can about him and show her care all the time. And she regards these actions a "thoughtful" way to express her love.

Do you know someone around you like them? Iwould like to name this type of girls "Koala girls" who stick together with their boyfriends just like the koalas stick to trees. They are afraid of loneliness and always rely on their lovers. They don't know how to enjoy their lives -they can't go shopping alone, seeing films alone and eating alone. No matter what they are going to do, they would like to have their boyfriends around them. Actually, from my point of view, they are lost as they have lost themselves.

Therefore I have designed a trip for these "koala girls". During the trip, they must follow the guidelines and go through 10 suggested points. Each point they will learn and find something interesting.

I hope this would help them to widen their experience, enjoy their lives and be independent. After the trip, they will learn how to respect the private time of their lovers.

You may not know who "monoman" is, but he is around us everywhere in Hong Kong. ‘Monoman’ is term created for a man who dedicates himself to his family, work and mortgages at the cost of his own leisure enjoyments. In my opinion, we should praise his strength dealing with all the pressure.

Therefore, I have designed some funny products, under the brand name "Monoman", to help those ‘‘monomen’’ to release their pressure and enjoy life. My main focus is to help them to relax, instead of avoiding the reality.

A "monoman" works hard to keep his family happy so it is obvious that he would feel satisfied when his family members feel safe and happy. The brand therefore considers "family pleasure" as the main theme and the warmth from family as the basic tune.

The creative products aim at being enjoyed and shared by both "monoman" and his family.

However, with time goes by, we are getting busier and our memory is being occupied by so many other things. Therefore, we sometimes forget what has happened in our family and even neglect our family members.

This project aims to stimulate audience to recall the memories of their families through the food tasting.

Food is one of the elements that bring all the family members together in almost every culture.We feel the warmth and happiness whenever we recall the moment sharing meal with our family.

When someone important is gone or something happen to them, it is always too late to learn how to cherish.

Because of the environment, we may focus on the career, working hard in the golden age and fight for higher positions in the careers, in order to obtain satisfaction in life, hence we tend to forget about the life and family. We are Young Designers Team under Hong Kong Designers Association. Hong Kong design industry has been growing fast in the past few year. Our group is established to facilitate young designers to join the Association.

我們是 香港年 輕設計 師團隊 ，由 於近年 香港的 設計工 作迅 速發展 ，因此 我們成 立了這 支團隊 以協助 年輕設 計 師能成 功投身 香港設 計工業 。

Being a designer is not easy, especially in Hong Kong where designers are usually underpaid and with limited benefits. Therefore, most of the designers are not working for money but for personal interest and job satisfactions. These intangible factors help them to overcome the difficult times yet challenges remain.

It is hard for young designers to survive in the industry. Although trying their best, they have to overcome a lot of barriers - lack of experience and innovative ideas, rush project schedules, long working hours, lack of respect to their design works and communication problems with their clients, just to name a few. All the pressure has exhausted them both mentally and physically, thus results in low morale.

This project aims at providing a medium to support young designers. We have created a website and a memo pad to help them to adapt to the demand ing Hong Kong design industry.

我們 希望透 過這個 計劃為 年輕設 計師提 供一個 支持他 們 的領域 ，故 特別設 計一個 網頁及 一套備 忘便條 ，用 作支持 、鼓 勵以及 協助他 們適應 香港設 計工業 。 這個計 劃將會 以輕鬆 、隨意及 容易操 作的方 式組成 。 這些 條件使 在工作 於繁瑣 辦公室 的設計 師得到 更多新 衝擊 ，也能 減低他 們的工 作壓力 。

There are four things that drive me to do the project on deins a promotion and create a healthy skateboarding brand of skateHoarding. The first thing that prompts me to work on the project is lots of badattitude are existed in skateboarding culture. The second thing that irritates me is • that public and government lack knowledge in skateboarding, and indirectly causedthe public to link had image bad images on skateboarding, liRe skate punk, drug abuse, gang. It hasthe effect of smashing the image of skateboarding spoa and to the worse, less people would like to participate in skateboarding activities.The third thing that irritated me is the Government fails to provide good faciiities in skateifoariling acti¥ity and hard to get support in the HongKong GovernmeitL The fourth thing that irritates me is no positive image skateboarding brand in Hong Kong. In my opinion, promote a healthy image are more important promote a cool image in skatelioardins activity in HongKong. A healthy image is easier to drive skateboarding activities to the public. Healthy Image can draw the parent and government to participate in skateboarding activities.

According to this situation, public and skater need to be recognizing with a new concept of healthy skatebsarÿiny culture and change their badanitude to good attitude toward in skateboarifing. As one of the primary aggregator, disseminator of news, newspaper press, in general, are very much concerned about their credibility. However, today, speaking out loud is more important than speaking the truth.

"How can you believe what the newspaper says?" Despite such an attitude people continue reading those unreliable newspapers -just to keep up with the latest news although they don't care about accuracy. Sex, blood and violence in content are much expected and "respected" than accuracy, fair content and original in-depth opinion.

News information is diluted almost to the point that it is becoming impossible to tell where news ends and entertainment begins.

Relationship between newspaper, journalist and readers are redefined, new structures of customer centricity and newsworthiness have emerged.

"A1 “is an interactive installation to discuss issues of current trend of consumer driven journalism. It will be an artwork produced for exhibition in a gallery space with intended interaction from the visitors. The positions of the participants will be captured by a live camera, with manipulation of a computer program, headline and content of A1 page of the newspaper will be changed.

想 不到時 間過得 那麼快 ， 轉眼 間我們 的畢業 展 覽便正式開始 。這次 我們要 顧及的 不再只 是自己 的作品 ，而是我 們十五 人一起 合作的 作品 》

短短 五個月 ，大家 都經歷 了不少 。由訂立主 題 、確定展 覽地點 、合 作夥伴 、處理 繁瑣文 件 、設計 展覽標 誌廣告 、場刊 、邀請咭 、海 報 、網頁 • 裝飾 場地以 至大大 小小的 事務管 理 • 全 部都來 之不易 。

I have a mixed feeling when the graduation exhibition is approaching.

Lectures, tutorials, workshops, the days of hard work in midnights, discussions with group mates all have become part of my memory, not to mention the sweat and bittering feelings. And then, we have graduated.
