Nina Mata is an illustrator that was born in the Philippines and currently lives in Queens, NY! She has probably illustrated some books you’ve checked out such as the early readers series, Ty’s Travels by Kelly Starling Lyons. Not only is Nina an illustrator, she sometimes writes for children as well. Nina started drawing at a young age, due to her parents working and being in night school. She also grew up going to the library and loved Reading Rainbow and Bob Ross. Nina draws inspiration from the world around her and hopes to reflect all kinds of kids in her work, so that everyone feels seen and represented. Next time you’re in the library, check out one of Nina’s many works! Her latest illustrations can be found in Beach Hair by Ashley Woodfolk.

Ready to make some fall art? Well just look outside! Grab some sturdy fallen leaves, coffee filters, crayons, and a flat surface! Lay our leaf under the coffee filter on a table or another hard surface then shade over the coffee filter with a crayon or oil pastel and watch the leaf come to life Study how the veins and other parts of the leaf come through the paper!
