This Saturday, May 16th at Stone Field, Walpole residents and residents of neighboring towns, will have the opportunity to experience the annual one-of-a-kind event that is Walpole Day. The event is a chance to get the full Walpole experience, and discover what the town is truly about. “It’s just having a day set aside that everyone can see what happens in our town, what businesses are in our town, what groups are here, what sports teams, putting a face to the name, and sort of sit back and be proud of the community,” said Walpole Recreation Program Coordinator Aicha Kelley.

Following Walpole Day festivities at 3 p.m., the Rec Department, along with Walpole Rebel Swimming and Diving Team, will hold the annual Wacky Quacky Duck Race that last year saw 1,022 rubber ducks. The race costs $5, or six ducks for $25, and begins at Memorial Pond and heads down the river.

The day officially gets underway at 12 p.m. with the parade and table events. This year’s parade will feature sports teams, schools, clubs, businesses, and special guests, and this year’s Wally Award winners. The parade will begin at Walpole High and will travel down Common, Main, East and School St.

“It’s cute, it’s kind of funny, the winner wins $1,000 there isn’t anything else like it in Walpole, and everybody gets all excited when we let the ducks go and they go down the river,” Kelley said. Throughout the morning and afternoon, a very special group of middle schoolers and high schoolers will be volunteering

their time to help make the day run as smooth as possible. The Volun-Teens, which feature 150 Walpole students as young as sixth grade, will help set up, tear down, and everything in between. “I’m very proud of the VolunTeens, Kelley said. “They do community events, they work here when we need them, at the camps over the summer, they’re just great kids and it gives them something to do.” Come out this Saturday to Walpole Day and also enjoy a great food court of vendors and an entertaining Teen Band Showcase.
