Hometown Weekly Staff On Thursday, September 17, the Wellesley Square Merchants Association will present the seventh annual Mom’s Day Out, offering free parking, discounts, specials and promotions to give area residents a break during the hectic back to school period of early fall. “It’s a chance to give back to all the moms,” said Demian Wendrow, of London Harness Co. and Tumi of Wellesley, as well as the president of the Merchants Association. “Everyone’s back from vacation and it’s just a day for them to enjoy the Square and relax.” He noted that the event, which was created seven years ago in collaboration between Pinnacle Residential Properties and the Wellesley Chamber of Commerce, offers free parking in the Wellesley Square area and more than 60 businesses that offer special deals for the day.

“Everyone is working together,” said Wendrow, “because we’re a community. We want to keep our downtown shopping center a vibrant destination.” The spirit of cooperation between the

businesses has been one of the key benefits of the Merchants Association holding events. The local retailers, restaurants, and various other companies are helping each other promote the square as a destination for area residents to “Shop Wellesley First” – “Shop Local.” The idea being that more customers shopping in Wellesley Square is good for all the businesses located there. Mom’s Day Out, and future events from the Merchants Association such as College Weekend, The Holiday Stroll and Spring It On, allows the businesses to demonstrate how important the customers are and what it means to have them frequent Wellesley establishments. Wendrow explained, “Our customers are very appreciative of being able to ‘Shop Local.’ This is a way to give back to our customers because without them we wouldn’t exist.” Enjoy a day in Wellesley Square, take advantage of the Mom’s Day Out specials, and show your support for local businesses on Sept. 17.
